You are a (A/T)

'Don't listen to them'. It's an easy thing to say.

"Hey nerd! What you doing!?"

"Oi he's talking to you!"

"Hey where are you going!?"

Tails tried his best to ignore them, he really did. But it was hard to ignore someone when they back you into a corner. With his back pressed against his locker he didn't know what else to do when the three boys blocked him from leaving.

"We asked you a question you deformed fox! Where are you going!?" one of the boys, a hedgehog asked spitefully.

"To class." Tails replied in a dull voice.

"'To class'!" the hedgehog mocked.

The cat and bear just snickered.

"Did you hear that boys he going to class." he mocked again.

"Biology by any chance?" the cat asked ripping his book from Tails' grasp.

"Hey give that back!" he asked desperately reaching for his book back.

"No way you nerd!" the bear snapped pushing him back into the lockers.

"Not so tough without your blue brother looking after you eh?" the hedgehog teased.

Tails' ears drooped at that. Sonic was always protecting him in situations like this but today he was away on a school trip leaving Tails to defend himself.

"Hey! Leave him alone!"

The three boys turned around to see a (A/T) stood there clutching the same text book glaring at them. But her expression only set the boys into fits of laughter.

"Awwww! Nerds protecting their fellow people!" the hedgehog laughed.

"I'll repeat myself, leave him alone." she said again taking a couple of paces towards them.

"Or what? You going to go tell a teacher." the hedgehog teased.

And as he said this he lifted a hand as if to pat her cheek in a teasing manner but the (A/T) retaliated by whacking his hand away with her thick text book, hard.

"Ahh! You little bitch!" he said then going to punch her.

But was quickly stopped as she pulled out a can of pepper spray spraying it in his eyes. He quickly fell to the ground groaning in pain.

"I said leave him alone." she repeated a last time.

The hedgehog then mumbled something about his friends getting him to a medical room, so the cat and bear ended up dragging his sorry ass down the corridor leaving the nerd with her fellow brethren.

"Are you alright?" the (A/T) asked simply handing Tails his book back which the bullies had dropped.

"Yeah... thanks. But wont you get in trouble for having that pepper spray?" he asked taking his book back.

"I shouldn't really, he went to attack me so it was in my right to defend myself. My mums a lawyer so I know this stuff." she smiled back.

(I think this is true but don't quote me on it, but also don't hesitate to defend yourself)

"Still you'll probably get in trouble, so thanks for helping me. You didn't have to." he thanked her again gratefully.

"Of course I did, as those assholes said nerds have to look out for each other. Personally I think we're better than them though as at least us nerds have a sweet named after us." she pointed out happily.

Just then though the second bell to class rang, with the warning bell having rung five minutes ago.

"Well we'd both better get to class. If your teacher gets annoyed at you just say I dropped my stuff and you were helping me pick it up. I'll see you later Tails." the (A/T) walking away.

Tails would have liked to thank her again but she was a fast walker and headed in the opposite direction. So as he headed to his own lesson though he couldn't help but think how she knew his name.

He knew for a fact that she wasn't in his class or his year group, leaving him to hypothesis as to why one, she knew his name. And two, why she had bothered to help and then give him an excuse to get himself out of even more trouble.

The next day came about and he still couldn't think of a reason apart from the fact that she must be really nice.

"Heard you got into a bit of trouble yesterday."

Looking up Tail saw Sonic leaning on the desk he was sat at in the library.

"Yeah, just some guys looking for a fight. I had some help though." Tails replied hoping Sonic might know who that (A/T).

So he asked him along with telling him what had happened yesterday.

"Hmmm, well that sounds like (Y/N) to me." Sonic said hand on chin.

"(Y/N)?" Tails asked.

"Yeah, she's in my year a really whizz at maths and science. We've spoken a couple of times in class, maybe I mentioned your name then?" Sonic suggested.

Maybe she was just trying to impress Sonic by helping me then, Tails hypothesized. Knowing all too well that many girls had crushes on Sonic.

"Or maybe she's knows your name from last years science fair, I think she entered it last year as well." Sonic then suggested again.

But Tails immediately forgot about (Y/N) knowing his name and as to why she helped him out at the mention on the science fair. He had completely forgotten about it! And it was in three weeks!

Babbling a quick excuse to suddenly dash off to Sonic Tails legged it to the science block to get an application form straight away. Making it into the science block he headed to the head of the departments office. But in his burst of panic he bashed straight into someone knocking them both to the ground!

"Sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going!" he apologized immediately rubbing his head a little, sore from the collision.

"That's alright, your clearly in a rush? Can I help you at tall?" a sweet voice asked.

Tails didn't even need to guess who it was. Looking up he saw (Y/N) standing up unfazed by him running into her.

"Sorry (Y/N), I really should have been looking where I was going." he apologized again also standing.

"So you know my name now." she chuckled a little.

"W-well Sonic told me, and that your in his year." he stuttered a little.

"So why were you in such a rush?" she asked.

"I suddenly remembered the science fair was in a few weeks and I was hoping it wasn't too late to get an application form." he explained.

"Well the closing date is today, so unless you can get a form and hand it in before the end of the day...." (Y/N) trialed off.

But Tails' ears had already dropped.

"But hey.... if you want I've got my application form right here, in fact I was about to hand it in. If you want you could add your name to it and we could enter as a team." she suggested.

"Really!? You wouldn't mind that!?" he asked excitedly.

"I wouldn't have offered if I didn't mind." she laughed at his sudden change in mood.

So (Y/N) added Tails name to the form and the application was handed in. Then the very next day the two brainstormed ideas in the library, they had some very interesting ideas. A self running generator, a fabric made of recycled rubbish, but in the end they decided to create a miniature whether simulator.

Sketching out designs it would be in the shape of a dome made out of clear plastic as to view the miniature landscape, and they would use electrical currents and water steamers to create the simulated whether patterns.

"So how are we going to get all the materials?" (Y/N) asked as they both looked down at their design.

"I've got most of this at home, but I don't know how I'll get a battery pack big enough to power the dome." Tails said.

"Well I can get that, but where are we going to build it? All the science rooms are in use at the moment." (Y/N) wondered.

"How about my workshop? We could meet up their Saturday." Tails suggested.

Just then the bell rang so (Y/N) got up to leave for registration.

"Alright, its a date." she smiled before leaving.

But she was unaware that she had left Tails in a blushing mess as he tried to work out whats he meant.

Date!? No, no this isn't a date! Or is it!? No just meant it in the sense as a date on the calendar had been set! He rambled to himself.

So the next Saturday they met up and began working on their project, and (Y/N) kicked their project off with a humorous sense when she produced a box of nerds for them to snack on as they worked.

As they worked though neither of them could deny they were enjoying themselves. It was fun to talk to someone with an equal IQ, make cheesy jokes about elements and talking about complex theories concerning the laws of Newton.

The construction of their project carried on for the next three weeks as they met up at Tails' workshop at weekends and after school, until eventually it was finished. With a snippet of mother nature contained in their project.

Then the day of actual science fair came about and they got their project ready for display.

"It looks pretty good if I don't say so myself." (Y/N) said as she admired their work.

"Yeah we did a good job. How much are you willing to bet that we get 1st place?" Tails joked.

"How about a box of nerds." (Y/N) joked back.

They then took their place at their stand waiting for the judges but Tails couldn't help but notice how (Y/N) kept glancing at the clock, as if she had to be somewhere. He started to grow a little worried that she didn't care for the project anymore and was eager to leave.

"Tails I'm just going to pop to the toilet, I wont be a moment." she eventually said.

"Alright, see you in a minute." he replied.

She then hurriedly left the hall leaving Tails alone at their stand. Ten minutes passed and the judges started going around the hall, and Tails grew a little worried. It would be a little hard explaining the project without (Y/N).

But then Tails grew even more worried when he heard shrieking laughter as a group of students walked past the hall, and the group included the hedgehog, cat and bear who had tried to pick a fight with him three weeks ago. Along with their female counterparts, the girl bullies of the school.

He wanted to find out what they had done but-

"Entry number 14, what have you got for us?" the judge asked enthusiastically.

So Tails had to spend the next 15 minutes explaining their project, giving the excuse that one of (Y/N)'s friends had suddenly asked for her help. When the judges eventually left he left the hall going the way the bullies had come from.

It wasn't long until he came across quiet crying coming from a secluded corner. Finding the source of the small hiccuping noises his ears dropped again, but at the sight of his friend crying huddled up with her knees to her chest.

And when he saw bits of crumpled and torn bits of pink paper scattered on the floor he quickly put two and two together.

Sitting down next to her he put a comforting arm around her and she couldn't help but cry a little harder.

"There assholes..." he said.

"And I'm an idiot." she scolded herself.

Earlier that week (Y/N) had found a pink envelope in her locker, it was a 'love' letter, in which apparently a student at school confessed their undying love. Along with a time and place to meet up and for her to give her answer, during the science fair in the back area of the school.

She knew it was most likely a prank but wanted to go anyway coming up with scenarios in her head that this love confession may actually be true, but her first hypothesis had been true. When she went to the back end of school all the bullies were waiting there to make fun at her.

She was able to run away before they started throwing food at her. But right now she knew she was with her true friend, in fact she saw him as a little more now. But that was a confession to be saved for another time.

"(Y/N) your not an idiot. And do you know why?" he asked her.

"Why?" she asked looking up at him.

He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a box of nerds offering them to her.

"Because your a nerd, just like me."
