Britney Carter Commits Suicide 

Hello fellow students. As most of you may know, Britney Carter committed suicide this weekend. You may not know however that she left letters. To her family, and to students who were particularly responsible for her decision. I'm not allowed to say their names, but you know who you are. Some of you who received a letter blame yourselves completely. Some of you blame yourself and others, while some of you blame your friends, family, anyone that isn't you. I'm here to say that it's not your fault alone. You weren't the only one who caused the problem. It was everyone, everyone that was close to her or in some way hurt her.

It was also the fault of the girl in the hall that looked at her funny. And, the person who called her dumb. And, the guy who called her a slut because she wouldn't go out with him. And, the person who told Britney she couldn't sit next to them on the bus because she had weird hair. It's honestly everyone's fault. We didn't see her pain, we didn't care when she cried, do anything when our friends called her bad words behind her back.

The truth is, Britney took her life because she was hurt and sad and we did nothing. Anyone who recognizes her name, her face, her hair, her eyes, it's your fault. But, we can make up for our mistakes. We as a whole can become better people and honor Britney's memory. We can and will change our ways and think about everyone. We will make all feel welcomed and loved to ensure that this never happens again in our lifetime. All of you, wake up tomorrow morning and make the world a better place. Do what we should have done long ago. What it took us a death to realize we must do.
