Baekhyun had figured out two important things over the Christmas break:
1. Baekgyu cheated on Chanyeol for no apparent reason.
2. His parents did not know what type of presents to get him.
He wondered if Chanyeol had fun on his break as he sat on the bus, watching the buildings glide by, the glass windows briefly showing reflections of people on the streets. From what he heard from Baekgyu, his older twin had celebrated Christmas with a huge party and there was some involvement of alcohol.
Baekhyun, on the other hand, spent his Christmas wrapped up in a blanket, sitting right at the foot of the Christmas tree. His parents had asked him what he was doing but Baekhyun didn't answer, only staring at the brightly coloured LED lights that were wrapped prettily around the fake tree. He was thinking—thinking if it was possible for Santa to actually give you any present you wanted if you were a good person.
If that was possible, could Santa have actually jumped down his chimney and given him a bottle of happiness?
Baekhyun knew the answer when he had only gotten some present from his parents that seemed like they were from the 19th century.
Once the short ride was over, he stepped off the bus and fixed the ugly sweater he had gotten from his parents, letting out a huff because of how cold it was outside.
He forgot to wear his scarf because it was buried in his luggage that he had brought home, and he didn't bother bringing it out which resulted in him having both his cheeks and nose tinted pink.
It was January, yet the weather was still unmoving from its cold state, determined to keep the snow piling up for a little more.
Baekhyun made his way to his dorm as he pulled a suitcase behind him, his backpack being the annoying thing it was and making the trip harder.
He looked up from the white ground to check how far he was from the dormitories and whined when he saw that he was barely even close. He decided that he shouldn't have gotten off the bus so early but realized too late, now having to face the consequences of irritating weather.
His foot conveniently slipped on a patch of ice and he fell backward, never letting go of the suitcase which ended with him squishing his hand while he landed onto his butt.
He quickly pulled his hand out from under the obstruction that was his suitcase and gritted his teeth when he inspected his injury. It didn't look that bad, other than the fact that the ice had cut his fingers a little.
He wondered just how lucky he was to have stepped on one of the only places with ice.
He sighed and was reaching for his suitcase with his other hand when he was interrupted by someone else picking it up for him.
Baekhyun looked up and he was met with someone he didn't expect.
To be honest, hope that he didn't even know existed disappeared when he spotted Jongin standing there.
"Are you alright?" He asked with concern and Baekhyun snapped out of it, hastily getting up.
"Yeah," he replied quickly and he tried to take his suitcase from Jongin which only led to him slipping again.
Before Baekhyun once again hurt his butt, Jongin wrapped an arm around his waist and kept him upright, holding him a little too closely for friends who have barely talked.
Baekhyun felt his face heat up from the close encounter and he got out of Jongin's hold, backing away while making sure not to slip.
Jongin handed him his suitcase without a word and the two stared.
Baekhyun pondered on what Jongin was thinking about before he questioned his own thoughts, curious as to why he felt guilty because of the little thing that had happened between him and Jongin.
He knew he shouldn't have been guilty because it wasn't like he did anything that was even worth calling cheating—and again, who was he even cheating on? It wouldn't be called cheating if Baekhyun wasn't even in a relationship with anyone.
Jongin took a step toward Baekhyun and the smaller had to keep himself from backing away like he was scared.
Just as Jongin was about to take another step, they heard a little beep.
Jongin swore as he checked his phone. "Shit, I forgot that I have a class in a few, I'll see you later alright, Baek?" He asked and Baekhyun nodded meekly, watching as the guy ran away without any problems about the snow or ice. Baekhyun stuffed his injured hand into his pocket and made his way back on track, treading to the tall building that seemed so far away.
He was a third of the way there when he felt soft material being placed around half of his face and his neck, and he turned to the owner of the scarf in anticipation.
His insides exploded in fireworks when he saw Chanyeol there and he smiled behind the warm scarf, remarking that it smelt like the taller.
Chanyeol could just tell from Baekhyun's eyes that the smaller was smiling and he chuckled, ruffling Baekhyun's hair.
"Are you really that happy to see me?" Chanyeol asked with a cocky grin and Baekhyun didn't reply, only shuffling closer and shoving his face into Chanyeol's chest, an obvious sign that he wanted to be hugged.
Baekhyun felt himself being warmed up from the inside out when Chanyeol wrapped his arms around him in a tight hug that almost squeezed the breath out of him but he didn't mind, enjoying the embrace of someone he hadn't seen in a while.
He didn't think he'd ever miss someone so much if it had only been one week since he'd seen them, but clearly Chanyeol had proven him wrong.
They pulled away after who knows how long and continued their way to the dorm together, both not as cold as before.
"I missed you... A lot," Chanyeol stated and Baekhyun let a small smile slip again.
"Me too," he agreed, his voice slightly muffled.
Chanyeol reached for Baekhyun's hand that wasn't holding the suitcase and he pulled it out of the other's pockets, noticing how Baekhyun flinched.
Chanyeol wondered if he did anything wrong and looked down at Baekhyun's hand, only to find that he had small cuts on his fingers.
"Baek," he began in a scolding tone. "What did you do this time?"
"I might've fallen earlier," Baekhyun answered sheepishly and Chanyeol clucked his tongue.
He stepped even closer to Baekhyun and making sure he didn't hurt him, he slid both of their hands into his jacket pocket.
"We're going to have to take care of your hand later," he added and Baekhyun rolled his eyes.
Once they arrived at their dorm, Chanyeol started fussing about Baekhyun's hand and how they had to get it properly taken care of.
Chanyeol quickly brought the smaller to the washroom and turned on the sink, making sure the water was warm before he tugged Baekhyun's hands under the stream.
"Chanyeol," Baekhyun complained, "I can do it myself."
Chanyeol shook his head 'no' and continued with his job, playing with Baekhyun's fingers. Baekhyun was sure that they didn't need to clean the small cuts for that long, but he just let Chanyeol continue what seemed to be 'mess around with Baekhyun's fingers'.
It actually kind of made Baekhyun feel good that Chanyeol was acting like this because it just proved that he cared for little things... That fact made him happy.
When the giant seemed satisfied, he turned off the sink and dried off Baekhyun's hand gently, bringing Baekhyun back into their bedroom and sitting him down on the bed.
"Stay here," he commanded as he went to his closet that held his suitcase.
"I'm not a dog," Baekhyun retorted with a pout on his face, watching as Chanyeol rummaged through his luggage to find something.
Chanyeol briefly stopped and turned to Baekhyun with a smirk. "Nope, you're a puppy," he corrected and Baekhyun scoffed, albeit finding the situation a little amusing.
Chanyeol finally came back and sat down beside Baekhyun, applying some type of ointment on his fingers.
"It doesn't even hurt, stop making such a big deal—" Chanyeol squeezed one of Baekhyun's fingers and Baekhyun hissed.
"Right it doesn't hurt," he replied sarcastically.
"Well of course it would hurt if your huge fingers decided to crush them," Baekhyun snarled but Chanyeol simply ignored him, finishing his task and throwing Baekhyun's hand onto his lap. "You weren't even there to help me up when I fell, you dumb giant," Baekhyun mentioned.
Chanyeol gave Baekhyun a look he couldn't decipher before he fell onto his back and sighed, closing his eyes.
Baekhyun noticed the sudden change in the mood and laid down beside Chanyeol, leaving his legs hanging off the side like the taller's (but Chanyeol's legs could reach the ground whereas Baekhyun's couldn't).
"Something wrong?" Baekhyun asked and Chanyeol shook his head.
"I'm just thinking dumb," he answered and Baekhyun chuckled.
"I told you, you're a dumb giant."
Baekhyun had a nagging feeling it had something to do with him—Baekgyu, and he didn't know if he should press on.
"It can't be that dumb..." Baekhyun trailed off and he felt Chanyeol looking at him as he stared at the ceiling. "Tell me," Baekhyun urged, turning to look at Chanyeol, having to slightly look up.
Now it was Chanyeol's turn to avoid his gaze and he let out another one of his sighs. "It's just... Jongin with you earlier and... I'm sorry I'm really dumb, I'm worrying for nothing."
Jongin? Baekhyun thought, and then it clicked in his mind. "No!" He yelled quickly, sitting up. He shifted in his spot so that he was sitting cross-legged on the bed, looking at Chanyeol intently. "Chanyeol, I swear I don't see him like that," Baekhyun said firmly, determined to convince Chanyeol.
Chanyeol also sat up and stared at Baekhyun. "Are you sure? I see him around you a lot and—"
"One hundred percent—no, one thousand percent!" Baekhyun exclaimed. "I'll never even like him as much as you."
They both noticed how Baekhyun had used the word 'like' instead of 'love' and although it stung a little, Chanyeol smiled gently.
"I really hope so..."
Baekhyun gnawed on his bottom lip as he eyed Chanyeol's lips, wondering if he should actually do what he'd been longing to—although, he'd never admit it. Ever.
He decided that it was only one time, and in a fluid motion, Baekhyun got closer to Chanyeol and pressed his lips onto the other's, feeling happy that he had surprised the man who was full of random kisses. He told himself that it was only to cheer up the giant, and not because he wanted to.
Baekhyun pulled away and smiled cheekily. "Well, I have to go to class now," he stated but in a teasing voice, hopping off of the bed.
Chanyeol called Baekgyu's name but he didn't listen, skipping his way over to his things.
He swiftly grabbed his backpack and stuffed it with his textbook, not looking back at Chanyeol.
"Baek!" Chanyeol whined when Baekhyun closed the door to their bedroom.
Chanyeol sighed in defeat and laid back down on the bed, a small smile slipping onto his face.
He guessed that Baekgyu was really warming up to him now, because the smaller was finally making the first moves to kiss him.
Chanyeol stopped his smile from growing wider as he hopped off of the bed, almost falling because of his lanky limbs.
He went up to his desk and opened a notebook, looking at the long list of words.
As cheesy as it was, ever since he'd gotten back with Baek, he'd been writing about things he wanted to do with him.
It was a long list, and most of the things were composed of summer activities—which was sad since it was currently winter.
Chanyeol searched for one that they could do that weekend and when he found one, he marked it with his pencil, another smile gracing his lips when he thought of how fun everything would be.
He sighed and a passing thought flew through his mind: Would Baek stay around me long enough to do all of these?
His grip on the pencil tightened and he turned to look at the picture of him and Baek on his desk.
I hope so.
~
Winter happily passed by, and Chanyeol had crossed at least 5 things off of his list. They had gone skating at the rink near Baek's house, went to the ice festival, sledding (as childish as that sounded), had a small camp out near the dorms...
But Chanyeol's favourite would have to be when they had painted the snow. On that particularly cold day, they had ventured out of the dorms with spray paint cans to the large, used-to-be-grass-filled area near the University.
They didn't think it would be that much harm because it was just snow, it wasn't like they were graffitiing brick walls.
They drew as many winter animals as they could come up with—but some of them got wrecked because of their footprints—and even went as far as drawing Santa and presents, even if Christmas had passed quite a while ago.
All in all, it was probably the best winter Chanyeol had ever had the chance of experiencing, and he was glad that he spent it with Baek.
Baekhyun sighed as he leaned his body into Chanyeol's, changing his position on the couch. He brought his legs up to his chest and closed his eyes as Chanyeol's arm circled him comfortably, the sound of the TV now becoming white noise.
To Baekhyun, the winter that had just passed was like a miracle because nothing went wrong, and all they did was have fun in each other's presences.
"I wanna go somewhere," Baekhyun spoke up, his voice quiet as if he didn't want to ruin the peace.
"Sure," Chanyeol attempted a shrug but failed because of his current position.
After saying that, they sat there for another five minutes, Chanyeol somehow beginning to play with Baekhyun's hair.
"Let's go somewhere," Baekhyun repeated.
"Okay."
Again, nothing moved except for Chanyeol's fingers, tangling themselves in Baekhyun's locks. The TV was long forgotten, and it seemed like the whole place was quiet.
"Chanyeol," Baekhyun whined, "Why aren't we leaving yet?"
The taller rolled his eyes at the smaller's antics, wondering if he was half asleep. "You're the one practically laying on me. You have to get off first," he pointed out the obvious and Baekhyun sat there unmoving.
"Yeah but..."
"Stop being such a dumbo Baek," Chanyeol joked and Baekhyun let out a giggle, turning his head to look up at Chanyeol.
A small, almost dazed smile made it's way onto Baekhyun's face and Chanyeol let out a chuckle of his own before stealing a kiss from the other—just a small peck.
He reluctantly moved Baekhyun away from him and stood up, stretching his limbs. "Let's go before you fall asleep," Chanyeol suggested and Baekhyun nodded, slowly but surely getting up from his spot.
They dressed appropriately for the weather and Chanyeol quickly added that Baekhyun should wear shorts.
They finished preparing for their small trip—whatever it was going to be, Baekhyun didn't know, but Chanyeol clearly had a good idea.
The two left the dorm and went to a bus stop, spotting another couple on their way.
"Jongin! Kyungsoo!" Chanyeol greeted and Baekhyun smiled at both of them.
Though, his smile slightly faltered when he noticed Kyungsoo's slightly shy glance and pink cheeks.
"Hey Chanyeol," the owl-eyed boy greeted, looking a little too happy in Baekhyun's opinion.
The shortie didn't say anything to Baekhyun when Chanyeol began asking questions about what the couple was going to do that day, and to say it irked him would be correct.
"Hey Baekgyu," Jongin said and Baekhyun snapped out of his little examination on Kyungsoo, giving Jongin a tight-lipped smile after recovering.
"Hi... Were you guys going on a date?" Baekhyun asked, trying to ignore the fact that Kyungsoo was getting all doe-eyed in front of Chanyeol.
"Yup," Jongin answered and Baekhyun laughed.
"Same!" Baekhyun stated, a little more loudly so that a particular someone would hear. "Chanyeol and I were going somewhere today. He won't really tell me though..."
It didn't seem like Kyungsoo noticed at all, and Baekhyun wondered when Kyungsoo began looking at Chanyeol like that.
Isn't he one of Baekgyu's best friends? Baekhyun wondered as a scowl made it's way onto his face when Kyungsoo laughed at what Chanyeol was saying.
"Oh it's alright Baek," Jongin reassured when he realized what was happening and he put a comforting hand on Baekhyun's shoulder.
But instead of saying that he would get Kyungsoo away from his boyfriend, Jongin instead suggested that they just kept each other company for the time being.
He put his hand on Baekhyun's back and slightly moved them farther away from the two that were opposite in heights.
Baekhyun was a little disappointed that Chanyeol didn't notice, but the thought flew away when Jongin stood in front of him, putting both hands on his shoulders now.
"I thought you said you were single?" Jongin asked and Baekhyun suddenly remembered that in fact, he did.
"R—Right, yeah... Um, th—that was then, and this is now..." He trailed off. "I guess I'm dating him now?" Baekhyun said as more of a question than a fact.
Jongin, instead of looking like he was cheated on, let out a laugh that seemed too genuine to be fake. "I see, good for you! You finally found someone after all these years huh?"
"After all these years?" Baekhyun asked and Jongin smirked.
He leaned in, a little too close for Baekhyun's liking, and he whispered into Baekhyun's ear with a low voice, "I know your secret."
Baekhyun froze and he gulped, looking at the back of Chanyeol's head and silently wishing that the idiot would come over here and throw Jongin under a bus.
"S—Secret?" Baekhyun peeped and Jongin backed away, shoving his hands in his pockets.
Baekhyun suddenly felt cold and he blamed that on the thought that someone could know what his brother and him were up to.
He can't know, right?
How could he know when Jongin first met 'Baekgyu' this year?
"Oh I know about the things you and your friend are doing. It's not the nicest thing to do, don't you think?" He questioned and Baekhyun kept repeating to himself that Jongin knew something different, and not the big secret that was hurting more than just Chanyeol's heart. "I suggest you stop before it gets worse, Baekgyu... Or should I say—"
"No!" Baekhyun exclaimed and he jumped towards Jongin, placing both of his hands onto his mouth and silencing him. "Please," Baekhyun begged him with his eyes to keep quiet and when he deemed that Jongin wouldn't say his real name, Baekhyun took his hands off.
"Baek, is something wrong?" Chanyeol asked, finally noticing that his little boyfriend wasn't by his side anymore.
"Y—Yeah. I just..."
"Oh, there's our bus," Chanyeol pointed out and Baekhyun thanked the lord, saying a quick bye to Jongin before rushing over to the giant. He grabbed his hand and basically dragged him to the entrance of the bus.
Just as he was about to step on, he turned to look at Jongin one more time and found the guy smirking at him. Baekhyun averted his gaze once he got inside, and he didn't realize how tightly he was holding Chanyeol's hand until they both sat down.
Baekhyun let out a deep sigh and Chanyeol looked at him in concern, in which Baekhyun only answered with a gaze that he hoped told Chanyeol that he shouldn't ask whatsoever.
"Why are your hands always so cold?" Chanyeol spoke up after a few minutes of silence.
After Chanyeol said that, Baekhyun realized that he was right and shrugged, pressing their palms even closer together to salvage some warmth.
Chanyeol chuckled and stared out the window. "Winter just passed and it's already spring... The weather's actually getting hot, so why do you still get cold?"
"I don't know. If I knew, I would have already fixed it. And plus, you were the one who told me to wear shorts," he speculated.
After Chanyeol explained that they would be doing something fun, they proceeded to talk about what Sehun had done yesterday at their little meet-up at Starbucks.
Chanyeol had dared the younger to go talk to the person behind the counter and ask for his number, and Sehun, with a smirk on his face, did it without a problem.
The boy came back with a satisfied smile and a piece of paper in his hands, a name on his lips.
Baekhyun had gotten to know Sehun better and although that guy was mischevious and a little too touchy for him, Baekhyun enjoyed his presence more than he thought he would.
Just when they got to the topic of terrible teachers, Chanyeol spotted the place they were supposed to stop at.
"Come on, let's go," Chanyeol tugged at Baekhyun's hand and the smaller quickly complied, following the giant with the flaming hair.
It felt a little surreal, with the wind blowing his hair out of his face and the bright sunlight above illuminating the colours of early spring, it seemed like a scene pulled out of a shoujo anime.
He wasn't focusing on much, but when Chanyeol stopped was also when Baekhyun first realized that they were now at a pool.
A super shallow, and super bland looking toddler pool, completely out in the open.
"Baek, isn't this great?" Chanyeol asked with an excited voice, as if he was surprising Baekhyun with a birthday present.
"And what do you suppose we're going to do here—"
"Swimming," Chanyeol gave him a lopsided grin, "More specifically... Feet swimming." And Baekhyun didn't even get a chance to raise his eyebrow before the kid-like adult ran away, his flip flops practically flying off of his feet in his haste.
He jumped into the pool as ungracefully as one could, and he began running around like it was his first time seeing water.
Baekhyun, still a little skeptical, approached the little pool of water with careful steps.
"Come on!" Chanyeol called when he saw the look on Baekhyun's face. "Stop being such a party pooper and join me!"
Baekhyun didn't know what was so appealing about a small pool that looked anything but safe. From there, he could see the bottom and it looked like it was made of rocks that could obviously kill people.
He stared at Chanyeol who didn't look like he was suffering any bit, and he contemplated whether he should go in or not. The water barely reached his knees, and Baekhyun calculated that he could definitely drown in that water.
"Wait," Baekhyun said suddenly, and he beckoned for Chanyeol to come closer to the edge. Once he was where Baekhyun wanted him to be, he told him to turn around. "Alright, just stay like that, and don't fall," he warned.
Baekhyun took off his shoes and socks, taking a running start. Just as he reached the edge, he jumped and latched onto Chanyeol's back like a koala, finding amusement in how the taller teetered off balance. He wrapped his legs around his waist and his arms circled around his neck, holding on tight.
"B—Baek," Chanyeol choked out.
"Whoops," the said man replied as he loosened his arms on Chanyeol's neck, allowing actual air to enter his lungs again.
"Alright, move, horsey!" Baekhyun yelled out his command, one arm going into the air childishly. That was the wrong choice because he began falling backward and he struggled to regain his balance.
Chanyeol's arms instinctively moved so that they were tucked under Baekhyun's legs, and he was actually holding Baekhyun up—not just letting him hang off of him like some sloth. "If you wanted a piggy back ride, you literally could have just asked," Chanyeol stated and he heard a giggle from the smaller that caused a small quirk of his own lips.
Without warning the person on his back, Chanyeol began running through the water, splashing drops everywhere around them.
"Fuck, slow down!" Baekhyun exclaimed as his hold tightened onto the madman.
"For such a childish person, you sure have a colourful vocabulary," Chanyeol pointed out, yet he didn't slow down at all.
"Park Chanyeol, I will drown you myself!" Baekhyun yelled, his face burying into the side of Chanyeol's neck in fear of being dropped.
The people who supervised the pool from inside of a small building gave them questioning looks, but eventually they just brushed it off as people being what they were: stupid people—or maybe, stupid people in love.
Baekhyun was now laughing instead of threatening to kill Chanyeol, and the so-called 'horsey' was drowning in the noises that came out of his boyfriend, wanting to record them and replay them every second of the day.
Chanyeol spun them around in circles and he almost tripped thrice, but who would have the heart to care when they were having fun?
They spent the next countless minutes having mindless fun, not even knowing which direction was which anymore.
"My horsey is such a good horse," Baekhyun cooed and he gave Chanyeol a kiss on the cheek.
"Call me that one more time and I'll drop you," Chanyeol warned and Baekhyun laughed.
"Why, are you afraid that you'll be revealed as what you truly are, horsey?" Baekhyun taunted and Chanyeol vaguely wondered if he had somehow gotten alcohol into his system.
Without a second thought, Chanyeol released Baekhyun's legs and Baekhyun let out a squeak, his arms not enough to hold him up as he fell.
He landed in the water with a big splash and he sat there bewildered, looking up at Chanyeol who turned to him with a menacing smirk on his face. He couldn't believe that the all caring Chanyeol would have done this to him, just because he had called him a cute name...
But nobody needed to know that Baekhyun didn't think Chanyeol was a horse at all—in fact, a part inside of him said that Chanyeol looked like an angel.
Now that he wasn't on Chanyeol's back, his feet, butt, and hands were on the bottom of the pool, and he noted that the floor actually felt pleasantly nice under his skin.
He didn't mind being soaked, but it was just the unfairness of it all as he stared at Chanyeol whose clothes were still dry.
"Seems like horsey here, just taught the little pup a lesson," Chanyeol mocked as he stuck his tongue out and Baekhyun exploded, jumping up from his spot.
Chanyeol ran away with contagious laughter as Baekhyun hollered for him to come back so that he could fill his pants with water.
He chased Chanyeol around before finally getting him with a lunge, tackling him in an attempt to make him fall.
"Baek—if we fall we'll hurt ourselves," Chanyeol spoke as he tried to get Baekhyun to stop kicking his legs.
Baekhyun stopped as a plan came to his head and he placed two of his hands on Chanyeol's arms, taking a deep breath. "Chanyeol, listen here," Baekhyun began slowly, and Chanyeol couldn't help but feel his own skepticism. "I..." Baekhyun's hands cupped Chanyeol's face and he stood on his tiptoes, pressing a kiss onto his lips, surprising him.
According to his plans, by now, Baekhyun was supposed to pull him down into the water but for some reason, he couldn't pull away.
Chanyeol's lips always had that sort of effect on Baekhyun—they were some type of poison that always caused his head to spin and his heart to become delirious. They pulled him into a pit of unhinged addiction, and he never wanted it to end.
Chanyeol's own hand cupped Baekhyun's face while his thumb brushed his cheek, and Baekhyun was pulled out of that state, finally regaining his rightful mind.
He grabbed Chanyeol's arm and without even separating their lips, he gave Chanyeol's legs a swipe with his own and he pulled him down when he lost his balance.
It was only when they both landed in a heap on the bottom that they separated, and Baekhyun almost died of laughter at Chanyeol's expression.
"It's what you deserve," Baekhyun said as he laughed, splashing water onto his face and causing him to flinch.
Chanyeol frowned and reciprocated, using both of his hands to throw water at Baekhyun.
From then on, it was a full water fight.
~
"Playing was fun and all but... God, I'm freezing," Baekhyun hissed as he rubbed his arms with his hands, trying to get some warmth back.
He was soaked from head to toe—well, except for his socks and shoes (which he was very thankful for).
The breeze that morning had seemed harmless, but now that he had cold and wet clothes sticking to his skin, he felt as if the wind's job was to freeze him like a popsicle.
"You know what would help?" Chanyeol asked as he walked beside Baekhyun, shaking in his own clothes, "Eating ice cream."
Baekhyun snorted unattractively as he looked around the park that they had arrived at, searching for some type of bench to sit on. "I never knew that eating something cold could warm you up," he stated as he finally spotted something to sit on. Sadly, it wasn't a bench but was instead a big rock that had been smoothed over, probably because of other people sitting on it.
He sat himself down and looked up into the sky, letting out a deep breath as he saw the beautiful blue of spring.
He turned to look at Chanyeol, only to find out that the giant had disappeared somewhere. Baekhyun stood up frantically and turned around, searching for wherever he had went.
He wanted to go over and punch Chanyeol when he saw him standing near an ice cream truck, ordering something. Baekhyun sat down in relief and watched as Chanyeol's hands pointed to things on the menu before they recoiled like he had changed his mind.
Baekhyun looked at him with a curve on his lips, a twinkle in his eyes even if he only saw Chanyeol's back, completely focused on something else.
A few minutes of shameless staring later, Chanyeol came back with two ice cream cones in his hands, one of them a shade of light pink and the other a light brown.
"Here's yours, Maple walnut," Chanyeol handed him the lighter brown one and Baekhyun unconsciously leaned back.
The smaller coughed nervously as his palms got sweaty, everything turning hotter than before. "I'm actually feeling like eating a fruity type," Baekhyun mentioned, trying not to immediately faint.
Chanyeol stared at the other ice cream cone in his hand and shrugged, handing it to Baekhyun who focused his gaze on the ground, steadying his breaths.
After a short moment, he took the cone out of Chanyeol's hands, scooting over on the rock as far as possible.
Chanyeol gave him a questioning look and Baekhyun only smiled, replying with: "Leg space for your inhuman legs."
He began eating his ice cream, savouring the pink cream that he presumed was strawberry.
He thought about the silence that was between them, and he wished that he could read Chanyeol's mind, to figure out what he was keeping inside.
"Baekgyu..." Chanyeol suddenly spoke up and Baekhyun turned to him with a small smile on his face, vaguely noticing that Chanyeol had taken a bite out of his ice cream and left it unattended in his hands. The taller was staring up at the sky like he had done minutes before, and his quickly drying hair burned brightly under the light, a shine in his eyes that Baekhyun could get used to—and to be honest, he wanted to get used to it.
He wanted...
He wanted to see that same smile every day, hear that same obnoxious laughter, feel those fingers in between his...
He only had half a year left.
Half a year wasn't enough for him.
No...
Eternity wasn't enough.
"I'll love you forever," Chanyeol continued his sentence and Baekhyun blamed it on his allergy that tears were surfacing to his eyes. "There's something you're not telling me," he added as he turned to Baekhyun, a gentle look in his eyes but a burning fire underneath it.
Again, Chanyeol just had to show him the exact thing Baekhyun didn't want from him.
Chanyeol showed him what it felt like to be taken cared of, he showed him what it felt like to have someone worrying about where he was and what he was doing...
Chanyeol showed him what it felt like to be loved.
And it hurt the most that Chanyeol wasn't even meaning to show it to Baekhyun—he was trying to show it to Baekgyu.
"I'll still love you no matter what, and I'd do anything to get that look out of your eyes."
Chanyeol's hand reached up to wipe the tears sliding down Baekhyun's face, and Baekhyun bit his lip, closing his eyes only to let more tears fall down.
"I want you to stop crying all the time... You don't think I hear you, but I do," he admitted, "I've heard you many times; when you think I'm asleep at night."
When Baekhyun opened his eyes, there was an extreme urge just to kiss Chanyeol—his awkward and weird roomate—and so he did.
He leaned in, knowing what would happen but proceeding anyway. He pressed his lips against Chanyeol's as he ignored the hot drops on his cheeks, losing himself in the sensation.
Honestly, he never thought that a kiss had tasted sweeter—and it was ironic because this could've been a kiss that potentially lead him to death.
He began feeling lightheaded and the moment he pulled away, everything in his world darkened as he passed out.
~
They say that the dreams or nightmares that someone has are about an event or a person that influenced you the most before you slipped into unconsciousness, so it wasn't a surprise as to what Baekhyun was dreaming about... Or perhaps, having a nightmare about.
"I never meant for it to happen like this," Baekhyun begged, watching as Chanyeol's entire world fell apart.
"You've been keeping this from me?" He asked, his voice wavering because of the anger hidden behind it. "You... You've been deceiving me this entire time?!" He roared, the grip on his cell phone looking like it could choke somebody. "How could you do this to me?"
"Please... Please hear me out," Baekhyun pleaded, "You said that you trusted me—"
"I said that I trusted Baekgyu! You're not him, get away, you fake."
Baekhyun's mouth opened, ready to beg him again but nothing came out. His hands were shaking, and his entire mind seemed as if it was curling in on itself, turning into nothing but a part in his body that used to make bad decisions.
"Fine, If you're not leaving, I will." With that, Chanyeol turned on his heel.
Baekhyun reached out to grab him but wasn't quick enough, watching as he slammed the door on his way out.
He stood there frozen as if he couldn't even form a proper sentence anymore, his legs giving out and landing him onto his knees.
The only coherent thought that he understood was that this was all his fault, and nobody else's.
It was all his fault for not treading carefully enough... It was his fault for letting his feelings get the best of him.
The look in Chanyeol's eyes... It was what he feared the most, and it shook his heart and knocked the breath out of him so quick that he didn't even realize he was drowning.
"Chanyeol," he called, fresh tears streaming out of his eyes. Baekhyun had never even had the chance to tell him how he truly felt, and now that everything was ruined, he regretted it so much. "Chanyeol..."
"Chanyeol."
Chanyeol turned and looked at his boyfriend that was lying in a hospital bed, quickly going to his side when he saw that the smaller's eyes were slightly open. He had passed out earlier and Chanyeol, not knowing what to do, had quickly brought him to the hospital. He had been sleeping for around half an hour and he was mumbling things that made no sense, until now when he had said his name.
Chanyeol stared at him closer now, and it broke Chanyeol's heart to see tears dropping out of those usually life-filled eyes, and the way he had said his name just brought his agony to a whole other level.
"Baek," Chanyeol said urgently, sitting down in the chair.
The way Baek stared at him like he had just experienced the worst thing in his life had Chanyeol panicking.
"Chanyeol," he repeated again as his hand blindly reached Chanyeol's hand, squeezing it tightly.
"Baek—what do you need..."
The tears in Baekhyun's eyes welled up and he was suddenly sobbing, his vision blurry and barely able to make out that it was Chanyeol in front of him.
The remnants of his nightmare seemed to haunt him, and Baekhyun didn't know that having someone walk away from him would hurt so much—and the fact was that Chanyeol hadn't even walked away from him yet; it was just a nightmare, but it made everything in Baekhyun crumble to pieces.
"Chanyeol," Baekhyun called and the taller still didn't know what to do, only trying to brush away the smaller's tears with his thumb.
"I'm here, Baek, I'm here. I'll always be here—"
That's not true.
Baekhyun wanted to scream those words into his face.
You won't always be there for me because you were never there for me.
"Please stop crying," Chanyeol begged, squeezing his hand reassuringly.
It hurts, Chanyeol.
It really hurts.
It was like a continuous cycle; when Baekhyun was around Chanyeol, he felt like he could breathe—but then he was reminded that Chanyeol wasn't supposed to be there, and he began to feel like he wasn't taking in enough air.
He dreaded the day when Chanyeol would just be an empty face in his memories, when Chanyeol would just be someone that Baekgyu loved, when Chanyeol was just Chanyeol.
No one important, but just Chanyeol, a name plastered onto a face that Baekhyun could barely recognize.
He wondered if that day would ever come—the day where Baekhyun didn't feel that way for him anymore, and would smile when him and Baekgyu walked down the aisle together.
He forced himself to imagine the person in front of him with someone else, someone with his face, although someone completely different nonetheless.
But the bottom line was that he couldn't be selfish.
I can't be selfish.
He repeated that sentence in his head multiple times, but he found himself faltering when he met Chanyeol's eyes.
I can't.
He looked away from Chanyeol only to feel the presence of the warmth on his hand amplify, as if telling him that even if Baekhyun couldn't see Chanyeol, he was still there somehow.
I can't... What?
Chanyeol used his fingers to lightly turn Baekhyun's head, forcing him to stare at Chanyeol.
Baekhyun's resolve broke when Chanyeol suddenly gave him a bright smile.
"If you keep crying like this, the pillow will become just as wet as your clothes when I dropped you into the pool. And we don't want that, do we? Remember when you said that you were really cold? Well, think about the pillow, it's going to be freezing."
Baekhyun laughed at Chanyeol's childishness, and he reached up to brush some of the hair out of his face.
He took in a shaky but deep breath, and his mind whispered to him that he could be selfish one more time.
Just one more time.
"Chanyeol,"
The giant's eyes lit up at Baekhyun's warm gaze and his voice, and his smile somehow turned as bright as the sun.
"I love you, Chanyeol."

Wowow, that was a long 6000+ words. Somebody kill me hahaha 'XDDDD' (why do I still use XD, it's so old and kinda gross haha oooooops)
So like... Soon... Yeah, I know I said that like three chapters ago, but seriously, that was three chapters ago, which means three chapters closer to 'soon'.
Yes, think positively.
(spoilers) In the ending, Chanyeol and Baekhyun may or may not be together. There's like a 40% chance that they will end up together. (I was just fukin wit u, these are not spoilers hahahaha someone shoot me.)
I can't wait, seriously, you guys aren't the only people waiting for Chanyeol to figure out and scream bloody murder while losing his shit.
Why am I swearing so much, and why is the A/N so long? I don't know, but seriously if you read all of this, answer this question:
What if I changed the cover of this bookeu? It's a very nice cover, tell me if you like it...
