chapter 16
The gatekeeper opened the gate and we all stepped into the house. I'd decided to take Crystal with me to Kike's place and Juliana also tagged along so far we were all free and our bosses weren't around but seeing the numbers of cars parked at the garage, it means they were back.
"Where are you guys coming from?" Tumi questioned as she beamed at us.
"We went to my sister's place," I told her and she nodded.
"Your sister stays in this estate too?"
"Yeah, it's not really far from here."
"Oh," she mouthed.
"Are you going out?" Crystal queried and Tumi bobbed her head as she hanged her black cross bag on her shoulder. She was in a baggy jumpsuit that looked so good on her.
"Yeah, I need help with my assignment."
"Chemistry right?" Crystal asked jocularly and Tumi smiled.
"Of course, I'm just like my brother."
"And K.Y knows Chemistry oo, she was the best student then," Juliana who had been quiet all along interjected and I turned to throw her a scowl.
"Really? That's nice, I guess I don't have to go to Gbemi's place again, that one will kuku do ako before calling her boyfriend to help me solve it."
Her latter statement made my mood sour. Zayd and I haven't talked since we ended things and that made me ponder if that was how love ended so quickly. Thank goodness I didn't love him with all my heart, if not I would have been a mess.
"Her boyfriend?" Crystal asked and Tumi nodded.
"Yeah, he's always the one helping me to solve it, Gbemi doesn't know anything but that guy is all a girl could ask for, he's everything, it's just a pity that my Clinton is a dumbass in Chemistry too," she chuckled at her last statement while Juliana glanced my way.
"Let's go in," I said before leading the way while they all followed suit. The fact that I was the best student and also had distinction in Chemistry didn't mean I was confident about Tumi's question, I just hope I haven't forgotten everything not like I didn't have a retentive memory but you never can tell.
We got to our room not long after and Tumi made herself comfortable on my bed while Juliana and Crystal had quickly gotten into a discussion, apparently a conversation about the guy we'd met earlier when we were going to Kike's place; the guy was handsome but he wasn't worth having a discussion over but Crystal and Juliana just took pleasure in it.
Tumi brought out her notebook and flipped through the pages before giving me the book, looking at it, I realized it was a question on entropy and enthalpy and it was quite easy.
"Thank you so much, I wonder where that my foolish teacher is always getting the questions you can't even see the answer on Google."
I chortled and she thanked me again before her phone rang, her face brightened and I suspected it was Clinton, my suspicion was confirmed when she called his name and excused herself from our room. Makes me remember when I was always giddy when talking to Zayd on phone, not knowing he'll end up being a jerk.
I realized it was getting late, so, I messaged Tise to ask for what he'll have for dinner because I was lazy to go upstairs and it wasn't like he would mention a specific food. I like that he wasn't picky about his food so I get to prepare whatever I like. His response came in few minutes later and just like always, it was, 'anything.'
************
It was always hard for me to get back to sleep every morning even though I always wake up before any one else. After my devotion, I decided to prepare breakfast so far I was jobless and couldn't go back to sleep.
Upon entering the kitchen, I heard some movements and noise and wondered what it could be. There was no way rats would be in this house, so, I switched on the light only for me to meet eye to eye with Madam's boyfriend.
The man is just so creepy to me. Why would he wake up early and start rummaging the kitchen for food.
"Good morning sir," I greeted.
"Good morning," he gave me a smile which I considered a crooked one before walking out of the kitchen with a glass of milk and the remaining pancakes I made yesterday when Tumi came back and decided to take us on a tour around the house; one I'd always wanted to do since we started working but never had the time to.
I stared at him till he was out of sight and shook my head before walking to the sink. Still pondering on what to prepare, I decided to do the dishes before I made up my mind on Porridge.
Immediately the food was done, others started walking into the kitchen while I decided to go up to tell Tise his food was ready so far I wasn't with my phone and he might have an early lecture.
I knocked on his door twice before he responded, then I entered only to meet him typing away on his laptop, apparently, he had been up for some time.
"Good morning," I greeted.
"Morning, how was your night?" He questioned without looking up from his laptop.
"I just want you to know your food is ready."
"Okay, I'll beep you when I'm ready to eat, thanks," he concluded with his face still glued on his laptop and I wondered what he could be typing that made him so focus.
"Alright," I left his room and went back to my room. Juliana and Crystal weren't in, so, I laid back on my bed for some minutes before having my bath.
After getting dressed in a green shirt gown which I didn't realize until I looked at the mirror that Zayd bought me when he was still chasing me, I knitted my brows and pulled it off quickly making a mental note to dash someone or even burn it, I changed into a blue off shoulder top and Jean shorts.
Crystal and Juliana weren't back, so, I assumed they were busy and with me being less busy, I decided to go to the garden; one Tumi had showed us yesterday and we'd eventually spent most of the time talking. She was really a great company. It was a peaceful and serene place which had a beautiful view.
I was stunned to see Tise on the bench with his laptop in the garden, I mean it wasn't up to an hour that I left him in his room, how come he was here now.
"Hey," I greeted and he raised his head from his laptop this time.
"Hi," he responded before fixing his gaze back on the laptop.
I sat on the opposite bench before talking, "I thought this place is a secluded part of the house so, I never imagined meeting you here."
He looked up at me, "I only come here when I want to edit."
"Oh, I see."
We both focused our attention on our respective business after that, him editing his work while I took pictures until some minutes later when his voice stopped me.
"Why did you leave Starlight to work here?" He inquired and I faced him.
"Isn't it obvious? The pay here is more," I responded and he nodded.
"That's understandable but why do you need money?"
I creased my brows, "For my education."
His expression changed to a confused one, "Why are you
the one worrying about your education when you have parents?"
"Actually I don't have."
"What?"
"My mother is late and my dad abandoned us since we were kids, I don't even know what he looks like."
"Oh, so sorry about that," he flashed me a smile which I returned. I'd outgrown the time I always felt moody after talking about my parents.
"So, you're trying to save up for your education?"
"Yeah."
"What would you like to study?"
I wonder why he was asking me these questions. Like we never really talked much, its only the normal exchange of pleasantries and his meal.
"Chemistry education, I want to become a teacher."
He looked astonished at my response and I smiled. It wasn't knew to me, people give me funny looks whenever I say I want to become a teacher. I wondered why it looked weird to people. It's even one of the stupid reasons Kike decided not to fund my education, in her words, studying education was a waste of time when I could study better courses with my level of intelligence but it has always been my dream to tutor people.
