Chapter 32
K.Y
That morning, after the doctor came for his morning rounds and checked up on Keyshia who had just woken up at that time, I heaved a sigh of relief after he told me she was doing perfectly fine and could go home soon. When he left, I turned to my younger sister who still looked weak and pale but she gave me an assuring smile, apparently, she knew how worried I was.
"I'm hungry," those were the first words that came out of her mouth as she rubbed her tummy and I smiled, feeling glad that she could now talk and ask for food.
"What do you want to eat?" I queried as I got on my feet prepared to get her whatever she wanted.
"Jollof rice, fried rice and chicken with coleslaw," she uttered and I chuckled.
"Of course you'll want that now, but I'll get it for you, though," I told her and her smile increased.
"Thanks," she said and I nodded.
"I'll go get it for you now," I told her and she bobbed her head then I made my way out of the hospital room. Opening my purse to confirm if I still had enough to get her the food, I nodded to myself and then walked out of the hospital.
Since the hospital was where we always came to whenever any of us got sick most especially Keyshia, I didn't have to ask for the nearest eatery though I had to take a bike to the place. After waiting for a few minutes trying to hail a bike since they kept on telling me ridiculous prices, I almost agreed to it since I was tired of waiting but then a familiar car pulled over in front of me.
Since I recognised the car, I walked up to it after he honked twice to convey his presence and then he rolled down the window.
"Hey K.Y," Tise greeted with a small smile which I returned too, knowing he would surely tell me to hop in and then drop me at the eatery and as expected, he told me to hop in after I returned his greetings.
"Where are you heading to this morning?" He queried and I glanced at him.
"BEEfoods," I replied and he lifted his brows.
"I need to get some food for my sister," I explained.
"Oh, how is she now?" He inquired as he started the car.
"She's better now," I replied.
"That's good to hear," he commented.
"Thanks."
"I'll head to the eatery then."
"I hope I'm not disturbing your plan though? 'Cause it's obvious you have somewhere to be this morning," I pointed out knowing he never left the house this early, not even on a Saturday morning.
"Not really," he replied in an assuring tone.
"Oh okay."
We remained in a comfortable silence after that until his phone rang and glancing at it, he didn't bother picking it, the same thing happened again and I decided to talk.
"Are you not going to pick up?" I asked and he glanced at me.
"Don't worry about that, she knows I'm on my way already," he replied and I puckered my brows. She? Looks like he was going to meet a lady and she must be really important for him to leave the house this early and just then, I felt a pang of jealousy. Why was I even jealous over that? Gosh! I shook my head and…
"Are you okay?" Tise queried and I lifted my head to look at him.
"Yeah."
"You were shaking your head," he pointed out.
"Oh, that's nothing," I told him.
"We're here," he announced and I looked around to realise we'd arrived at BEEfoods.
"Oh, thanks for dropping me off," I said and then turned to open the door but he held my hand and that sent shivers down my spine, looking down at his hand on mine, I swallowed before raising my head and just when I opened my mouth to talk, he beat me to it.
"Here, use it to buy the food," he said as he gave me five 1000 notes and I lifted my brows.
"You don't need to give me this, I have the money to buy the food," I said and he nodded.
"I know that, just consider this as my gift to your sister," he said and I sighed.
"But…"
"Just take it," he insisted and I glanced at him before collecting it.
"Thanks, I'll extend your greetings to my sister then."
"Good, see you later," he flashed me a wide smile before I got down from the car. I watched his car until he was out of sight and then smiled to myself knowing I'll be able to get food for myself too since the money with me couldn't buy two but now that I had enough, I could feed myself too.
Walking into the eatery which wasn't busy at all since it was still in the morning, I headed to the counter and bought our foods and soon, I left the eatery and made my way back to the hospital, this time with a bike.
Opening the door slowly, I realised Keyshia had a company and if I wasn't mistaken, the person was my sister. I huffed and that caught her attention as she swung her gaze to me.
"Hey K.Y," she greeted and I ignored her before walking over to the other side of the bed and then gave Keyshia who was now leaning her back on the bed rest her food.
"K.Y," Kike called and I glowered at her.
"Follow me," I told her as I dropped my food on the table and then walked out of the room. I didn't want to have a fight with her in front of Keyshia since I knew she would surely piss me off.
Once outside the room, Kike appeared a few seconds later.
"What are we doing outside?" She asked and I let out a scoff.
"Water. Why did you leave Keyshia all alone to herself? It's not that you just went out or something but you slept out, you weren't even in the State at all," I started and she rolled her eyes.
"Keyshia is no longer a baby, she's old enough to stay home all alone, stop treating her like she's still a toddler, she has a boyfriend for goodness sake and what does that mean?" She replied and I resisted the urge to slap her.
"So, you think it's safe to leave her all by herself?"
"She needs to learn how to take care of herself," she replied and I shook my head.
"You're unbelievable. Do you even know what would have happened if I hadn't seen her? If I hadn't visited? Can you even imagine it and you're here saying she's old enough to take care of herself," I said while trying so hard not to raise my voice.
"Anything can happen, even if you were home with her, she could have a crisis and you wouldn't know so stop making a big deal out of this. We should be happy she's alive and doing well."
I lost my cool that instant.
"Oh my gosh! Can you listen to yourself? Is this how stupid you are? Is this how insensitive you are? Your sister was almost dying and this is all you have to say? Which is more important? Your sister or your foolish job? The stupid job that had cost you a lot of things? It cost you your love and the path to lead a beautiful and good life and yet you still returned to it, is that how dumb you are?" I yelled and she glowered at me.
"Can you lower your voice? We're in the hospital," she told me and I resisted the urge to slap her face.
"Just shut up!"
She sighed.
"K.Y just calm down okay, I didn't go there to work. I know you're mad at me and I told you I'll give up on Gbohunmi and get back to work but I don't think I can bring myself to lose him," she said and I scrunched my brows.
"What are you saying?" I asked her in confusion and she ran her hands through her hair while her expression changed to a sad one.
"I heard he was going back to Abuja, you know we met in Abuja and he actually works there, so, I went over," she explained and I raised my brows.
"Wow, wow, okay, this is good to hear. Looks like you're now serious with your life. So, what happened?" I inquired and she let out a sigh.
"Nothing fruitful. I went to his office but he didn't allow me in, same thing his house, he's been ignoring my calls and messages," she replied in a dejected tone and I really felt for her.
"That's sad but you shouldn't give up though," I told her and she bobbed her head.
"I won't," she replied and I gave her a reassuring smile.
