Kai frowned, feeling her flame rouse and ignite. A seemingly centuries-old amber chest was tucked behind the crevice. Glancing behind her at Ash and Evony for a moment, she took another step forwards, reaching out a now-pale hand to fiddle with the latch. There was a gentle click, and the chest swung open with a bang.

Evony inhaled sharply. "Kai, what was tha..." She trailed off, her eyes flashing with flecks of bright gold. "That's not something good," she murmured. "The sparks are stirring."

Kai nodded, not saying anything as her gaze flicked to Ash, who was reaching for the chest. "Ash, wait," she whispered. "We don't know what's in there." Kai realized she'd latched onto her friend's wrist, her grip tightening as the flame grew more restless.

Ash looked down. "No," she said quietly. "You don't get it. I've spent years as your friends, and I'm so glad I've met you. But I haven't emerged. I haven't felt so much as a spark. I've just trailed behind you like a lost puppy for all this time, being useless, and whatever's in here might make me feel..." She stopped, deciding not to finish, and wrenched her hand away from Kai's grip. She used it to pull out a worn piece of paper, and the same yellowish-brown color of the ancient writings. It was more faded, however, and showed a jagged edge as if it had been ripped from something.

Evony froze. "That looks like it came from-"

Before she could finish her sentence, there was a bright flash and the chest slammed shut, graying and hardening under her touch until it was nothing more than a block of stone.

Hiya, we're active again! And this time we've actually plotted out the book. Heh.

Now, the only reason this author's note is here is to express that we aren't going to be writing anymore of them in this book unless it's unbelievably important. We want you to enjoy reading without any interruptions (and annoying "pleasevoteforthechapterbecauseyouknowweneeditorwe'lldie" additions).

If you didn't read the title of this part (which would be kinda hard to miss, although it happens, it happens) then this is a teaser for Spark. The first few chapters will be coming in a couple weeks. Keep in mind that we still have school, so we can't write 24/7, but we will upload as often as we can!
