Chapter 10
The Windclan camp was silent, and crickets chirping was the only noise on the moor. Sparrowflight lay awake, looking over the sleeping bodies of his Clanmates. Badgerstep was guarding the camp, but Sparrowflight easily slunk out of the warriors den unnoticed, his paws sliding silently across the earth. Sparrowflight reached the dirt place tunnel and elegantly leaped over the dirt of his Clanmates, making sure he landed in the soft snow, so his paws didn't crunch loudly. Badgerstep had his back turned the entire time, gazing out the camp entrance. Sparrowflight began stealthy walking around the camp before he would head for the Shadowclan border. He had been meeting Blissnose for about a half moon now and he had no regrets. Sneaking out had become an easy task for him, as he did it almost every night. The only drawback was that he was more tired during the day. Sparrowflight would always come up with an excuse to go back to camp during a patrol, or hunt on his own so his Clanmates wouldn't see his drowsiness. However, he knew some of the warriors were growing suspicious of his actions. How he always managed to have a bellyache, or a thorn in his paw. Sparrowflight shook the thoughts out of his head as he picked up his pace, reaching the moor top. When Sparrowflight got there, he stopped suddenly. There was a cat there! Sparrowflight recognized the scent to belong to his sister. Batfeather turned her head, and Sparrowflight held his breath, hoping the shadows would conceal him. "Sparrowflight?" Batfeather called out, smelling the scent of her brother. Sparrowflight exhaled and walked forward, revealing himself. "What are you doing out here?" Batfeather asked, tilting her head. "I could ask you the same question." Sparrowflight replied. Batfeather sighed and turned her head, looking up at the stars of silverpelt, sparkling in the night sky. "Mother always liked the moor top." Batfeather breathed. Sparrowflight gasped. Batfeather had come here to greive? Sparrowflight stepped closer to her. "I miss her Sparrowflight." Batfeather mewed quietly. Sparrowflight sighed and looked up at the stars, brushing pelts with his litter mate. "I miss her too." Sparrowflight murmured quietly. The two of them sat there for a bit, silently gazing up at silverpelt, before Sparrowflight abruptly stood up. Batfeather looked at him, surprised. "I uh, think I saw a rabbit, I'll um, go investigate. Y-you should probably go back to camp." Sparrowflight meowed quickly, before turning and dashing off towards the Shadowclan border. Batfeather stood there dumbfounded, as Sparrowflight felt her confused gaze burning into his pelt as he streaked through the snow, sending up white clouds as he ran.

Sparrowflight approached him and Blissnose's meeting spot on the border and her familiar sweet scent wafted over him. Sparrowflight purred as he saw the white she cat emerge from behind a bush. She smiled "Miss me?" She asked, stepping forward and nuzzling him. Sparrowflight only purred in response. After staying like this for a bit, pressing into each other's pelts, breathing in their scents, they both stepped back. "How's Shadowclan?" Sparrowflight asked. Blissnose shrugged "It's alright. Silverstar is leader now." She told him. "How is she?" Sparrowflight asked, tilting his head. "Still a pain in my tail." Blissnose chuckled "How's Windclan?" She asked, returning the question. Sparrowflight thought for a moment. He had already told her about the battle with Thunderclan and didn't know what else to say. "Nothing that exciting. But Icesplash's kits are ready to be apprenticed." He told her "And Hawkstar said I would be a mentor." Blissnose smiled "That's great Sparrowflight!" She purred. "I know you'll do great." Sparrowflight smiled "Thanks, but if I have an apprentice, I might not be able to see you as much." Blissnose narrowed her eyes "Why? You don't train at nighttime." Sparrowflight sighed "But I might be too tired to train my apprentice during the day." Blissnose frowned "Oh."
Sparrowflight sighed and stepped closer to her. "I won't let it come between us." He meowed. Blissnose smiled "Good." She then looked up at the sky. "It's almost dawn." She murmured. Sparrowflight frowned. It was always a sad moment for them when they had to part ways. Sparrowflight stepped forward and nuzzled Blissnose. She purred as her tongue ran over his ear. "Goodbye." She whispered, turning and trotting back into Shadowclan territory. Sparrowflight watched until her white pelt disappeared into the forest of pines. Sparrowflight sighed, turning to run back to camp. He would need to get there before the cats woke up. He would always curl up in his nest and act like he was sleeping and if he ever arrived late, he would tell them he had to make dirt. This time Sparrowflight was lucky enough to make it back before anyone woke up. Sparrowflight snuck back in through the dirt place and slunk back into the warriors den, curling up in his nest. Sparrowflight tried to fight off the urge to sleep, but he was unsuccessful and drifted off into sleep.

"From this moment until you have received your warrior name, you will be known as Gingerpaw. Sparrowflight." Hawkstar's voice boomed, and Sparrowflight stepped forward. "You will mentor Gingerpaw. Teach her your courage and skill." Sparrowflight stepped forward and touched noses with the small, orange apprentice. "Tigerpaw! Gingerpaw! Tigerpaw! Gingerpaw!" Once the chanting died down, Gingerpaw looked up at Sparrowflight excitedly. "Can we go training now?" She asked. Sparrowflight nodded. "We can go now if you like." Gingerpaw smiled and flicked her tail "Can Tigerpaw come?" She asked. Sparrowflight looked over to Blazefire, her mentor. "I think you both will do better on your own." Blazefire told her. Both of the apprentices frowned. "Are you sure Blazefire?" Sparrowflight asked "Two perspectives would be better than one." Blazefire narrowed his eyes "I'm positive." He growled, turning and trotting out of the camp. "Let's go Tigerpaw!" He called sternly. Tigerpaw flashed a glance at her sister and dashed after her mentor. Gingerpaw looked back up at Sparrowflight. "Can we go now?" She asked. Sparrowflight nodded "Yes, we can go." Sparrowflight replied, leading his new apprentice out of camp.
