The t.v. glowed bright, my leg sucked under th blanket, curled up. Em comes up to me, smiling, and hands me a mug. The mug is warm to the touch, and has little snowmen painted on it. The scent of hot cocoa lingering in the room and I took a small sip. Emma cuddles up to me, curled in a blanket, her mug pressed to her chest. I press the play button the the smooth, black remote, and the animations begin to play. Rudolph only gets to the first verse before the phone rings. Em moans, but stands up to get it. She picks it up, and pauses for a while as the person talks. By the way her foot taps, she's nervous. She's always done that, and it makes me nervous now. Who's on the phone? Thoughts swarm my mind, and Em cuddles up again. I look at her, my eyes wide. She smiles softly and says, "It was Zeke's mom. She said he's getting better, but they need to put him special meds for his concussion. The meds are new, and this is their first real patient to use it on." She puts her arm around me and presses the remote, and the music starts again.
After the movie, we shuffled up the stairs, my eyes already beginning to close. I lay down on the bed, scooting under the covers. Em pulls her long, black hair into a high ponytail. She sat down on the bed, her legs hanging over the edge. She sighs a little, and turns to me. "Don't worry, Fawn. He'll be okay." I nod slightly, although she sounds like she's reassuring herself as well. I turn to my other side, staring at the wall. I feel Emma's warm breath as she fell asleep. My eyelids began to feel heavy, and my breaths slowed as I fell asleep a well.

I awake, still worried about Zeke. He was only 16, and they were giving him a brand new medicine? What if something goes wrong? I shook my head, and huffed, sitting up. I unwrinkled my navy pajama shirt, throwing my arms above my head as I yawned. Em murmured something sleepily, and sat up. We hadn't been able to see Zeke since we got that phone call, and today we finally get to, after a couple days. My phone buzzed, and I grabbed it as it buzzed again. Em got out of bed, and walked slowly over to the bathroom, blinking sleepily. I looked down at my phone, it's surface covered with a cyan case, and it's screen glowing. I notice that Mari's texting me, and she's excited. I am too, not only will we be visiting him, he'll be able to come home. I respond to her, telling her I'll be right back to text. I throw on a hoodie and some leggings, sitting back down. We have a quick conversation, and Em comes back from her shower, wrapped in a towel.

Mari follows me back to my room as she chats excitedly. Em greets us at the door, and we pause before heading back down. I don't even know why we went up. We pile into my mom's car, Emma in the driver's seat, and me beside her in the passenger seat. Mari settles down in the back, her legs crossed as she buckles in. Em puts the car into reverse, and we begin to back up, out of the driveway. Small snowflakes landed on the window, and I could see their small, beautiful shapes. The snow had only just started, and was falling slowly. I see the building become tall, made of mainly glass, and people walking into the glass doors. Em turns, muttering something about the driver infront of us. We turn into the parking lot, and I see Mari tapping her fingers in a pattern on the black leather seat. I open the door as we pull into a spot, and a gust of cold sends a shiver down my spine. We walked through the small layer of snow, and get to the doors. We had gone to the wrong parking lot, Zeke's room was on the other side of the hospital. Em curses under her breath, and we walk to the cafeteria, following the signs that hung from the roof.
We get to the cafeteria, and I begin to get a sense of where we were. I turn the corner, infront now. I hear Em's sweet laugh, although it was hushed, then I hear Mari's voice, then Em's laugh again. I smile, it was good to see them getting along. I continue straight, Em catching up to me, and Mari walking beside her. We turn at the next intersection. We come to the the desk I've seen too many times before. The lobby I've sat i many times. The man whose here every time we visit, stops us in our tracks.
"Girls, he's been moved to a new room, in a new wing."
"Oh, where?" Mari asks, though her eyes glisten with annoyance.
"Just down the hallway, make a left, and then a right, and keep going straight, and the person at the desk there will show you."
"Thank you!" Mari replies, a smile shining on her face.
I walk down the hallway, the tile floors making every step sound loud. The hallway divided into two, and we turn left. We walk in silence, and turn right this time. Another intersection, but we continue straight. Soon, we come across a lobby and desk that looks almost identical to the one we normally go to. A woman smiles at us, and we walk over. I set my fingertips on the edge of the counter. Em asks for Zeke, and the women replies with a small nod. "Zeke will becoming out of his room in a few minutes, you can wait out here, or go and see him." She states, her smile fading. "We can wait." Em responds. I walk over to the chairs, and sit down, biting my lip. Why was I so nervous? It's Zeke, and he's coming home, I think determinedly. I hear the doors wing open from the room, and a wheelchair is being pushed out. Mari stands up excitedly, her eyes lighting up. The nurse looks at her, and smiles weakly. Mari walks over, and me and Em follow slowly. Zeke makes eye contact with me, his eyebrow raised in confusion.
"Zeke?" Mari says softly, smiling. Zeke looks over at her, his eyes wide. They pause in silence for a second, and Zeke relaxes a little. I notice his leg's in a cast, along with his arm.
"Hi?" He responds quietly. Mari kneels down slightly to look him in the eyes.
"I've missed you.." Mari whispers, and I step forward a little. Zeke nods, and smiles a little.
"Who are you again?" He asks, looking Mari in the eyes. Mari laughs, he eyes shining. Zeke smiles, but looks slightly uncomfortable. Em leans over and whispers, "Well, looks they someone's taken too many meds." I look over at her, and roll my eyes.
"I'm your girlfriend, Mari!" She exclaims, her smile bright. He studies her for a moment.
"I don't have a girlfriend, and I've never seen you before." He states.
I think I just heard Mari's heart drop to the ground and shatter.
