I stood at the gray door, it's small window fogged up with the warmth inside. I can feel Em's stare heating the back of my head.
"You gonna press the doorbell?" Em says in a flat tone. I glance over at her and nod slightly, looking back over at the doorbell. I use my pointer finger to gently press it down. I hear the ring softly from inside. I see blurred movement from inside, and the door opens. Zeke's Mom smiles at us, and shivers from the blast of cold.
"C'mon in girls." She says in a quiet voice, beckoning us with her hand. We step in, trailing snow in as well. She grabs our coats and puts them into a closet behind a bend. I've been here before, but Em's gazing around at the new setting. She coms back, and says, "Zeke's in his temporary room, just down the hall." She points down the hall, and I nod a thanks and turn down the hallway. I gulp, and my palms get sweaty as I walk down the hallway. The door is closed, and I grasp the door handle. Em sighs behind me, and I whip around to glare at her. She chuckles and I hear the shuffling in the room pause. I turn the handle and poke my head in. He blinks at me, then smiles a little. "
"Hello." He says, waving his hand in short motions. I wave to, and he looks confused, then seems to remember, and smiles.
"Fawn? Right?" He says excitedly. I nod, and he throws his fists in the air.
"Umm, what?" Em says, confused. He heats up, and rubs his forehead.
"Right, sorry. I has just happy that I remembered something." He confessed. "Your Emma..?"
"Correct. But Em." She says, her arms folded in front of her body. He smiles, and nods to a chair and a beanbag on one side of his room. "Sit down'" He invites.
Me and Em exchange a glance, then spirit to the neon green bean bag. I dive into it, and Em huffs before sitting on the chair. Zeke chuckles, and my shoulders shake as I 'laugh.' Zeke's sitting on his bed, his legs crossed and his hands each rested on a knee.
"Dinner!" We hear a shout from outside the door. We slowly get up, and I follow Zeke down the hall. Zeke's house had mostly dark wood floors, and a light blue and light gray color scheme. In the dining room, there was glass, blue tinted vase in the centre, filled with many flowers. There was also an additional vase, just glass, next to it, also filled to the max with flowers. Most of the flowers were your basic, genetic flowers, but there was one tiger lily that was really beautiful. Zeke smiles when he sees my expression.
"We got a lot of flowers since 'the accident'." He says, his gaze flicking back to the vase. He pulls out a chair and sits down, his fingers drumming on the wooden table. I sit down across from him, pulling up the sleeves of my tan knitted sweater. Em sits next to me, and Zeke's Mom brings out a tray of turkey, or perhaps chicken, then a side of fries (Homemade) with some gravy. I saw Em's eyes light up at the sight of gravy. Once his Mom leaves, we all lunge for the food, and I grab the bowl of fries. Em has the gravy, then realizes that there's nothing else on her plate. I use the metal tongs to scoop up some fries, and pass the bowl onto Em and steal the gravy from her. I pour it on, the steam rising from the gravy and fries. I hear a doorbell ring. I see Zeke's mom go to the door, and I hear her greet someone. Mari appears from the corner.
"Oh, hiya." She says shyly. Her gaze flickers from me to Zeke. Mari looks mildly uncomfortable, and begins to tap her foot when she notices the seat left is the one next to Zeke. Slowly, she walks over, and sits down, and I give her the bowl of fries. Her eyes spark with memories, then they become dull after a second. She scoops up as we all sit in silence, watching her and slowly eating. Em clears her throat, and blinks at Zeke. When Em notices Mari's looking out the small window that shows the street, she makes a small heart with her hands and points to Mari. Zeke's eyes widen, but he nods quickly. I raise an eyebrow, but kept it to myself. When Mari looks back, Zeke smiles slightly.
"So.. er.. how's your day been going?" Zeke asks, slightly blushing, looking at Mari. Mari snorts, and puts down her fork.
"That's the worst flirting I've ever heard!" She says, laughing.
"Hey! This is new to me!" He accuses. Mari just chuckles, and flicks her hair out of her face. I glance at Em, who's looking mildly amused. I just smile a little and roll my eyes.
"Hey." Zeke's Mom pokes her head from around the corner, "I've got some movie tickets, if you guys wanna go." I nod firmly and the others agree quickly. His Mom smiles and nods, disappearing around the bend.
