Flash-Cooperation

How often do you think about your friends coming into your life?

Was it random? By design? Or maybe a little of both?

Regardless of the reason, some friends you just know are going to be by your side for a while.

Others, you're not so sure.

And then there's that one friend..

Who, well, you hope someday becomes something more.

But friend will have to do for now.

And that's okay, I guess.

"I'm glad you invited Caitlin, Cisco and Mariana."

Iris neared Barry at the bar as he smiled and raised a brow.

"They're cool, right?"

"They saved your life, Barry. That makes them the coolest people I've ever met. It's nice that you guys became friends."

Iris and Barry both grabbed a shot and clinked glasses.

"To friends. Old and new."

They both drowned their shots as Iris shook her head, the alcohol starting to affect her.

"Ooh. I'm up. Wish me luck!"

Walking over to the dart board, Iris smiled at Caitlin and Cisco.

Barry walked over to his three 'companions' with a tray full of shot glasses.

"Guys, I have a problem."

Cisco quickly responded, without looking at Barry, "We all do when guys like him exist."

"Yeah.." Caitlin breathed out, looking at Eddie Thawne, "He's so hot."

Mariana cleared her throat as Caitlin came to her senses.

"I mean, genetically speaking, of course. Because I'm a geneticist, of course. Oh my god, do I sound like Felicity?"

"Barry?"

Mariana grabbed everyone's attention as Barry explained his 'problem.'

"I'm not talking about Eddie, okay? I'm talking about this."

Barry drowned all the shots on his tray in 2 seconds.

"I can't feel anything."

"Yeah, that's usually what happens when you drink too much."

Caitlin chuckled as Barry explained.

"No. The alcohol is not affecting me. I literally, feel nothing."

"It's your hyper metabolism. I need a sample."

Mariana got up from her chair and circled the table.

"I'll get more shots."

"I swear I had a Vacutainer."

Cisco and Barry both gave Caitlin a look.

"Wait, you carry a blood-collection kit in your purse?"

"You have your hobbies."

Once Mariana came back with more shots, all of them, together drowned a shot at the same time. When they finished, looking over at Barry, they waited.

"Ah. Still nothing?"

"I can't get drunk. I mean, I'm already 25 and my drinking days are already over."

A voice distracted them as they turned to look at Iris.

"Barry, you're up."

A ping was heard from Eddie's phone as he checked it, his brow furrowing.

"There was a bombing on Eight and pass." he turned to Iris, "I gotta go, babe."

"Okay."

"Sorry guys."

Mariana made eye contact with Caitlin, Barry and Cisco as Iris started giving her excuse to why she was leaving.

"I've got an early shift at Jitters. We'll catch up tomorrow. Great."

"I'm beat." Caitlin let out a fake yawn as both Caitlin and Cisco moved to a table more private.

"It's getting late anyways, so I'm just gonna..."

Barry ran out the doors and towards the bombing building. Once he stopped in front of the side building, he looked up, hearing voices ringing through the alleyway.

"Help! Somebody!"

"Guys, there's a window-washer and he's going to fall."

Mariana grabbed the phone from Cisco's hands and spoke to Barry.

"Don't try and catch him. You don't have super-strength."

"Is there a bed store near here? What if I get a bunch of mattresses and stack them?"

"Barry, this isn't a road runner cartoon."

"Help! Help!"

Barry pondered for a minute before taking a couple steps back.

"How fast do I need to go to run up a building?"

Mariana answered.

"How far up do you need to go?"

"Hurry! Somebody!"

"Uh, I don't know, 50 meters, give or take."

Cisco gave Mariana the phone as he grabbed a napkin and a pen.

"Thirty-two point fifty-seven.."

"Guys, hurry!"

"Just run really fast and you'll be fine. But you need to maintain your velocity on your way down or.."

"Or what?"

Mariana looked over and replied with, "Splat."

"Great."

"Help!"

"Alright, alright, alright."

Barry quickly ran up and grabbed the window washer just as the cable broke. Turning around, he ran at the same speed as before and landed with the window washer. As he got up, he noticed the familiar face of Iris. Quickly, he blurred his face so that she wouldn't recognize him. Speeding away, he headed towards his house.

*THE NEXT DAY*

Barry was on his knees alongside Mariana as he inspectioned the side of the bombing building.

"Barry, what have you got?"

He turned around and began taking off his gloves.

"Bombers typically have their own unique signatures. Crimped wires, fragmentation. The level of sophistication is telling once I've analyzed it. You show me a bomb, I can usually find a clue in it."

"Sounds like there's a "but" coming."

"Yeah. I haven't found any sign of an oxidizing agent. It's as if the floor just blew itself up."

"Things don't just blow up."

Eddie neared them as Mariana nudged Barry.

"Security guard said our bomber was a woman, red hair. Also cut the security cameras. There's no footage. But there might be something else."

Barry, Joe and Mariana walked over to the blasted doorknob where Eddie was currently standing in front of.

"Some king of small charge blasted the doorknob off."

"Any idea what's missing?"

All of them stared at a room full of cabinets.

"My guess is one of these files. It will take days to figure out which one."

Mariana immediately gave all of them a response, looking over at Barry for confirmation.

"Let's let Barry do his thing."

Eddie and Joe walked out as Mariana and Barry got to work.

"Alright. Left or right?"

"Both."

In a matter of minutes, after Eddie and Joe had left, Barry found the missing file.

"Did you find it?"

He held up the file.

"Let's hope so."
