Flash-Team
"So, Clyde Mardon has a brother?"
"And both brothers survived the plane crash and then the dark matter released from the particle accelerator explosion affects them both in virtually the same way."
Barry looked at Wells as he explained how they both had the same powers. But, somehow, things weren't adding up.
"Yeah, only Mark's power's seem to be a lot more precise. To be able to control the weather like that indoors--"
"You'd have to be a Weather Wizard. Ooh. Been waiting since week one to use that one."
As Cisco took a slurp of his drink, he immediately flinched. Marianna looked over, and chuckled.
"Trigeminal headache?"
"What?"
"Trigeminal headache. Brain freeze."
"Then why didn't you just call it a brain freeze?"
"So I'm guessing you running around a twister in the opposite direction isn't going to do the trick this time."
"I just remembered, during our run-in with Mardon, Clyde Mardon, I was tinkering with something to help attract unbound atmospheric electrons."
"Like a grounding mechanism?"
Marianna stood up, nearing the whole team as Cisco continued explaining his bright idea with the team. Somehow, it actually made sense, after all the madness the whole team has been going through lately. Even Marianna has had trouble getting her life back to normal in a not-so-normal world.
"Yes. Because the only way Mardon can control the weather, is if he can tap into the atmosphere's natural electrical circuit. And if we take away that circuit--" Cisco pulled out his straw, slurping his drink from the straw as he continued. "Clear skies."
Joe pulled out his phone while Cisco was talking, as he showed it to Barry and Marianna.
"Singh's checking in. I gotta go."
"Yeah, I'll meet you at the station."
Joe was walking away before stopping as he heard Marianna's voice.
"Joe. We'll find Mardon. Don't worry."
"I'm not worried at all."
As soon as he left, Wells turned to Barry as Marianna sighed.
"Well, he's taking behind targeted by a revenge-seeking metahuman rather well, I must say. Don't worry, Barry. Marianna. Joe will be fine. I promise."
"Yeah, no I know. I actually wanted to talk to you about something else. Look, last night, on my way to the morgue, I saw something. We saw something."
"What did you see?"
"I was running, with Marianna in my arms, and I turned and I saw myself. Or, I don't know, another Flash. Running beside me."
"Intersting."
"Yeah. What do you think it was?"
"Could be an illusion, a mirroring effect caused by wind shear and light. A speed mirage, if you will."
"It didn't seem like it. It was--"
"He seemed real."
Marianna said as she walked and stood beside a confused Barry. Wells was thinking, as he processed Barry's words.
"I'll tell you what. Let's focus on finding Mardon and once he's safely contained in the pipeline, we'll investigate this."
"Where are we at with Mardon?"
Captain Singh was talking to Eddie, Marianna, Barry and Joe as they confronted him about the recent events with another Mardon bother.
"No one at the morgue heard or saw anything."
"We're canvassing known associates, seeing if he reached out to anybody. Maybe we can get a lead on where he is."
"Why don't we let Thawne do that?"
"Because no one knows the Mardon brothers better than I do. Chyre and I tracked them for years. I know how they think."
"Which is why you should coordinate the investigation from here."
Captain Singh said towards Joe as he walked away, leaving the office with Barry, Marianna and Eddie. Marianna looked just as confused as Barry on the situation.
"Hey." Joe grabbed Barry and Marianna's shoulders as she grabbed Eddie's, bringing everyone in towards Joe's words. "If you guys wanna keep that smile on that pretty face, she doesn't know about any of this."
All three of them nodded as Iris walked over to them, a smile placed on her face.
"Hey, sweetheart!"
Joe hugged Iris as she kissed his cheek.
"Hey, dad. Hi."
"Hey."
Eddie walked away as Marianna looked at him, a furrowed expression on her face. Looking back at Barry, she shrugged.
"So, what are you guys working on? You got any good leads for an honest reporter?"
"Uh, things are actually pretty quiet around here right now."
Marianna butted in, as Joe grabbed shrugged them both.
"Can you guys give me a minute?" Iris turned back towards Eddie as she talked to the three of them.
"Yeah, me, Barry and Marianna were actually gonna go grab lunch."
"We were?"
"Yeah."
Barry walked outside with Marianna while Joe gave Iris a 'i told him, but he forgot. again.' look before heading out with them.
"Duh."
"Mm. I haven't had one of those in way too long."
"It felt appropriate."
As Joe was driving, Barry handed Marianna her soda from the passenger seat, as she sat sitting right in the middle of the backseat.
"So you want to talk about what's been going on with you?"
"What do you think is going on with me, Barry?"
"You seem a bit--"
"Cavalier--"
"--Considering what we're up against."
"We aren't up against anything."
"Joe, come on."
Marianna sighed as she turned to look at Joe, Barry frowned at his words.
"Look, I'm fine. Can we just change the subject, please?"
"Sure."
A moment of silence spread towards all three of them as Joe continued driving. Barry, then had a moment, and turned to Joe, Marianna listening from the backseat as she sipped her soda.
"Actually, you know, I could use some advice."
"About what?"
"Uh, you know, just relationship stuff."
"Oh, you mean like with that girl, Haylee?"
"No, actually. Um, with Iris. Because things between us have gotten a little complicated. Again."
Joe laughed as Marianna shook her head in disbelief, Barry looking at her with a 'what?' look.
"You're asking your adopted father for advice about being in love with his daughter who just so happens to be dating his partner?"
"I know. I know."
"Things have gone way past complicated."
"Sometimes me and Iris have these moments and when I'm looking into her eyes, it's hard not to think that she's feeling the same way I do."
"Look, you already told Iris how you felt. So unless she comes out and says she feels the same way, all you can do is hold onto those moments."
Marianna interrupted their conversation to Barry looking outside as she looked concerned.
"Man, it is coming down."
"Yeah."
She reached toward the radio as she tuned it to '107.6'.
"And it's another beautiful day here in Central City. Not a cloud--"
Joe suddenly stepped on the brake as Marianna lurched back, towards her seat, Barry looking at her to see if she was alright.
"Mardon."
All three of them looked back to see the one and only Mark Mardon behind them, his hand moving as he controlled the rain that was pouring down on them. His hand clasped shut as Barry noticed the lightning bolt doming down on Joe. He grabbed Marianna's arm and Joe as he pushed them out, onto the nearby grass. Mark's car was gone as soon as he was outside. Their car exploded into a million pieces as Marianna was gasping for air, Joe beside Barry.
"Are you okay?"
They both nodded, breathless, before Barry looked at the burning car.
