Chapter 1

They look at me everyday. The people of New York. They look at me swinging from building to building, because I made a choice once to live a life of responsibility. A life I dedicate to them... you've heard this question before. Who am I? I'm Spider-Man, and I'm Peter Parker.
"Peter, Peter.... snap out of it." said the voice of Mary Jane Watson. She had a look of concern on her face as she looked at her... kind of boyfriend, spacing out.
"I'm sorry, MJ. It's just that..." Peter started to say but MJ nodded.
"I know, Tiger. It's the anniversary of Harry's death." Mary Jane replied. Peter nodded. He sighed.
"Harry shouldn't have died... I should have listened to Doctor Connors when he told me to stop wearing the..." Peter started to say before Mary Jane cut him off.
"Peter... that was 2 years ago. Don't beat yourself up over it. Harry wouldn't want you to do that." Mary Jane replied. Peter nodded.
"Thanks, MJ." Peter replied. She was right... Harry wouldn't want him to blame himself... he'd want his friend to be happy and move forward. Peter kneeled down to touch Harry's grave.
"I miss you, Harry."
Meanwhile at the Daily Bugle:
"Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the death of Harry Osborn, Harry Osborn was the masked hero who had saved Spider-Man from certain death at the hands of Flint Marko, the Sandman, and the Black Spider-Man copy we now call, 'Venom'. Without Harry Osborn, there was no one to truly take over the Oscorp Empire... until today." said the voice of an African American reporter, a reporter for the Daily Bugle, he was speaking to Robbie Robertson.
"I see... who is the new leader of Oscorp, Ben?" Robbie asked.
"Wilson Fisk...." Ben Urich, replied.
"So he's returned to the country..." Robbie replied.
"Hasn't been around since he was rumored to be a criminal kingpin." Ben replied.
"But now... years have passed by, so much has happened since then... The Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom... enough time has passed since then for most New Yorkers to feel like Fisk is irrelevant." Robbie said in realization.
Peter Parker was not the normal civilian right now. He was The Amazing Spider-Man, trying to keep the legacies of Ben Parker and Harry Osborn alive. As he swung through the city, people cheered for him. It took a while... but the people of New York loved Spider-Man.

As Spider-Man swung through the city, he heard the sound of sirens... and lots of them.
Police captain Yuri Watanabe was driving after her target, serial killer Cletus Kasady. Kasady was leading the New York police on a wild car chase throughout the city. The killer laugher wildly as he recklessly turned right onto a different street.
"Damn him. Kasady is going to cause a lot of deaths if we don't catch him soon!" Yuri said. Suddenly, a red and blue figure swung ahead of her police car. Yuri had to fight the urge to give out a sigh of relief. Spider-Man had become one of the allies of the police, and recently, Yuri had become Spider-Man's official police contact, something that was not taken well by Police Detective Jean DeWolff, who had been the one to suggest starting an official partnership with the webslinger, but DeWolff worked with Spidey a lot regardless.
"Never thought I'd be so happy to see him." Yuri told herself.
Spider-Man hopped on the car, surprising Kasady.
"Oooh, a New York celebrity." Cletus said.
"Stop the car. You're gonna hurt someone like this." Spider-Man told Cletus, who gave the webhead a wicked smile.
"That's what I'm counting on" Cletus replied as he hit the gas. Spider-Man shook his head before he crawled toward the driver's door and smashed the window, grabbing Cletus and tossing him off the vehicle and catching him with webbing. Spider-Man then flipped off the car and stopped the car by webbing it up, forcing it to stop. Cletus laughed like a maniac.
"After all of this is said and done, I'll be more famous than you can ever imagine!" Cletus declared. Peter rolled his eyes under his mask. As the police pulled Cletus off of the web Spider-Man had him land on, Yuri handcuffed him.
"Cletus Kasady, you are under arrest." Yuri said.
Soon Peter Parker walked into the offices of the Daily Bugle.
"Mr. Jameson, Peter is here to see you." said Jameson's secretary, Betty Brant. Betty smiled at seeing Peter. She had been attracted to him for a long time, but he always had Mary Jane Watson around him, so it looked like he'd never give her the time of day, at least not in a romantic sense. The always angry J Jonah Jameson motioned for Peter to walk into his office.
"Parker, you have better got me some pictures of Spider-Man and his reckless chasing of Cletus Kasady, or so help me you will be fired!" Jameson warned before Peter could say anything.

Peter passed him the pictures he had of Spider-Man stopping Cletus Kasady.
"At least the pictures aren't total crap. I'll give you..." Jameson started to say before he remembered that Peter had a staff position at the Bugle. He hadn't been a freelancer since the days Spider-Man had worn a black suit. He sighed.
"Here's your paycheck, Parker. Now scram unless Robbie gives you some other assignment." Jonah said to Peter. Just then, Ben Urich walked into the office. Peter waved at Ben. Ben hadn't been at the Bugle long, but Peter and Ben had become friends very quickly, and since both were often working on crime stories, it was common for Peter's pictures to be used to support Ben's articles.

"Actually, I think I might have an assignment that Peter could help me with." Ben said. Jonah looked at Ben.
"Urich, what story did Robbie you? " Jonah asked.
"Wilson Fisk has returned to the United States after many years of being away... and he's bought Oscorp." Ben replied to Jameson. Jameson's eyes widened in shock.
"WILSON FISK IS BACK AND HE DID WHAT?!" Jonah yelled. Peter looked confused at the two.
"Wilson Fisk, who is that?" Peter asked. Jonah looked like he was about to die of anxiety.
"URICH, GET PARKER OUT OF HERE AND INFORM HIM ABOUT FISK... OUT! OOOUUUTTT!" Jameson yelled, making Peter and Ben walk out of the office, as Jameson gathered his thoughts on the situation.
"Ok... that was strange, even for Mr. Jameson, so who is this Wilson Fisk guy?" Peter asked once he and Ben exited Jameson's office.
"Wilson Fisk was a business man. He was in charge of the largest construction company of New York years ago. But there was rumors that he was involved in the criminal underworld. Rumors that Fisk was the big boss of most of New York's gangs... calling himself, The Kingpin. However no proof was found. Then one day, a camera spotted Fisk, seemingly killing someone... but before the police could question him about the video of a possible murder, Fisk had disappeared. He had left the country and, soon afterwards the recording just disappeared." Ben explained. Peter nodded. This was troubling indeed.
"And why would a construction company owner buy a science corporation like Oscorp?" Peter asked.
"Fisk always had a hand in some science corporations. He was a large stock owner in Quest Industries and had poured lots of money into their exoskeleton program, which was lost when someone bombed their test facility. Fisk always had an interest in making weapons... weapons he could then sell to the United States military." Ben replied.
"So you're going to write a story about the return of Fisk." Peter said, knowing that there was no question about what Ben's intentions were.
"I am. Tomorrow, Fisk is doing a press conference about his buying of Oscorp, and I'd like you to come with me, get some good pictures." Ben explained.
"It depends on what time the press conference is." Peter replied.
"It does? You have a second job or something Pete?" Ben asked.
"Actually..."
Later at Horizon Labs
Peter did have a second job. He and Doctor Curtis Connors, his former physics/quantum mechanics professor were both hired by Max Modell to develop various products to benefit the world. When Peter got to the lab, he was surprised to see Dr. Connors look through a microscope.
"Doing a biological experiment?" Peter asked his former professor. Dr. Connors looked at Peter and nodded at him.
"Well after the time you gave me that strange black goo, you can say my interest in biology increased." Connors replied. Peter remembered it well. He remembered how Dr. Connors tried to call him from his apartment and tell him that it was dangerous to keep the symbiote, but unfortunately, Peter had been fully immersed in it's power by the time Connors warned Peter of the effects of the symbiote. Connors warned Peter that the black goo heightened it's host sense of aggression, and sure enough... Peter had gotten more aggressive... and he danced with no music on the street like a jerk... he didn't like to talk about that.
"So what are you working on?" Peter asked.
"I'm just studying lizard DNA. Some lizards have an amazing ability to grow back lost limbs, and I am trying to figure out how. Perhaps after that, I can develop a medcine that slowly and safely allows humans to regrow their limbs again." Connors explained. Peter looked surprised. The wonders such a medicine could bring.
"So, what are you working on, Parker?" Connors asked as he saw Peter gather materials to get to work.
"Mr. Modell asked me to work on something for the police... and it lead to me creating a new metal. Reverbium. It's lightweight, but durable. If I can make a vest made of it, it'll not only protect our officers from bullets, like any bullet proof vest, but it would also protect them from the amazing force of super villain attacks and even shockwave like attacks like the ones used by the Shocker last year." Peter explained.
Flashback:
A year after Spider-Man's battle with Venom, a man named Herman Schultz stole some high tech military grade shockwave guantlets from an up and coming corporation named Alchemax. He called himself 'the Shocker' and ended up trying to rob banks all over the city. Spider-Man ended up chasing Shocker all the way into an underground subway station.

(Old game screenshot because I found it fitting.)
Before Spider-Man stopped Shocker, he had injured lots of cops with his shock gauntlets, and Peter had felt like there had to be something he could do to defend New York's finest from threats either powered or technological. Which lead Peter to studying how he could make a type of metal alloy that could absorb the impact of powerful attacks and distribute it across the material, lessening the impact and potentially saving various lives.
Present day:
"Reverbium has been tested and it does what it was designed to do. But now I just need to make it lightweight to make into a vest." Peter explained to Dr. Connors. Connors smiled.
"You know, you've come a long way from the brilliant but lazy student I taught back in Columbia University. I'm proud of you, Parker." Dr. Connors said. Peter smiled.
"Thanks, Dr. Connors." Peter replied.
Later that night:
Peter opened the door to his crappy apartment. He had hoped to move out of Mr. Ditkovitch's building ages ago. Nothing against Mr. Ditkovitch, ever since Mr. Ditkovitch gave Peter some advice (back in Spider-Man 3) on how to talk with Mary Jane after their break up, they were on good terms. But it didn't stop the fact that the apartment has incredibly run down and Mr. Ditkovitch had trouble getting new tenants into the building to pay any repairs. It seemed at any moment the city of New York could arrive and condemn the building. Peter didn't know where he'd go if that happened. But for now, he was greatful to be laying down in his own bed as Peter tried to get some sleep, ready for the next day to start already.
