Chapter 24
Who needs drugs? (Y/N) thought to herself scrolling through Pinterest. She was completely addicted to looking up cosplays and nifty sewing tricks when she wasn't doing homework or building Lego. Naturally she came across clothes and items inspired by the Avengers and other heroes.
Leading her thoughts to trial back to the Star Wars session earlier.
"So you can heal, and you can fly with big wings."
"Yes." (Y/N) said slowly wondering why Ned was yet again recounting her powers, but also concentrating on the Lego storm trooper she was placing carefully on the death star.
"Hmmm..."
"What are you thinking about Ned?" Peter asked uneasily, placing pieces from a top, dangling from the ceiling on one his webs.
All were currently in Peter's room assembling the ultimate weapon, in Lego form.
"Well you've got the powers of a spider, so you're called Spiderman. I'm thinking you could have a name like Angel or something (Y/N). As you know, wings and healing powers are seen as angelic."
"I'm afraid that names been taken." she sighed.
"Really by who?"
"Hang on, back up, why would she need a superhero name!?"
"Because I'm going to help you track down the Goblin of course."
"What!?" loosing his grip Peter landed painfully on the floor, hissing in pain he sat up wobbly "Since when are you helping Spiderman, I mean me!"
"So whose the name been taken by?"
"You know back in 1983 when there was that really strong mutant called Apocalypse?"
"Course I do." Ned nodded.
"Hey stop trying to change the conversation. Since when are you helping me beat Goblin!?"
"Well he gave four other mutants some of his powers and one of them was called Angel, so if I was called Angel people might think I was a criminal."
"Oooh! Okay!"
(Go ahead and comment possible names along with your reasoning)
"Hello!?"
"Sorry Pete, I thought you said I could help." (Y/N) said simply turning to face him.
"Well I didn't say that, but I'm not in charge of you or of anyone, its your decision but that doesn't mean I wont protest with well constructed arguments."
"And how long do you need to construct those arguments?"
Peter fell silent as though doing rapid calculations.
"Dude." Ned chuckled "I don't see why you're not hyped by this, you've got someone helping you out!"
"But Ned you're forgetting that you, (Y/N) and MJ nearly died this week. And its only Wednesday."
The evening had also consisted of a very detailed explanation of how (Y/N) had found out about Peter being Spiderman, including the two making obtuse hand gestures provided with vocal sound effects.
"All the more reason for me to try and help you."
"She's got a point."
Sighing Peter knew he wouldn't win this argument.
"Actually there's also something else I wanted to ask about..." Ned piped up.
"For the last time there's no room in this apartment for me to show you my wings, not with May in the kitchen." (Y/N) stated.
"No no it not that. Its just, I know about you two, and you know about each other, so the three of us together know everything. And I was wondering... should we tell MJ?"
A silence fell over the two, their expressions vastly differing.
"I'm... not sure..." Peter trailed off at a loss. "I mean, would it help in anyway? Or make things worse?"
"I think the real question is, would she take us seriously?" (Y/N) added.
"What do you mean?"
"Well if we just go up to her and say 'Hey MJ! I'm a mutant with the powers of healing and I also big ass metallic wings. Plus Peter is Spiderman and we're both currently trying to take care of the Goblin who attacked you and Ned'. I don't think she's going to completely believe us."
"Not if you guys told her like that, but if you showed her."
"I mean, if we told her I'm sure she wouldn't tell anyone." Peter presented a pro "And she wouldn't care that you're a mutant. In in a nice way though!"
Ned was able to figure out for himself that being a mutant wasn't as glorified as the X-Men were reported in the news.
"I actually, considered telling MJ about me being a mutant, a long time ago...."
"You did?"
"Yeah, you weren't there my first day, but she helped me out so much, happy to have bookworm as a friend. And in various conversations I've found her to be very expecting of all groups, sexuality, gender and mutants. I've actually been thinking about this since day one."
"Did you consider telling us?"
"A couple of times, but I was always too scared to risk it.The only reason I told you Ned was because I wanted to heal you arm as it wouldn't have healed correctly."
"It wouldn't?"
She shook her head.
"Then thanks. Seriously."
"I think I should be thanking you, both of you. I'm finally using my powers again, and neither of you care I'm a mutant. That means the world."
"Well Peter's Spiderman, to hear you've had your powers all your life is so cool! "
"Hey!"
"No offence."
"So why not go crazy and tell three people in a week? I'm happy to let MJ know, but that doesn't mean you have to Peter."
Sat there Peter considered what his answer would be.
A small ping brought her out of her thoughts. Yet again bringing her phone to her face she had a text from Peter.
Peter: Should we really be telling MJ?
(Y/N): What makes you ask that?
Peter: I don't know
It's not that Peter doubted MJ, he was just nervous about the actual reveal. But as ever one of the scariest things in the world was being left alone with your thoughts for too long. Creating various very implausible scenarios in his head.
"So what's wrong?"
Shrieking Peter jumped from his bottom bunk banging his head falling to the floor as (Y/N) climbed in through the window.
"What are you doing here!?" he asked in a hushed whisper on the floor clutching his head. "Are you trying to give me a heart attack!?"
"Doesn't matter if I did, I could just heal you." she teased.
"Peter!?"
Pointing to his closet (Y/N) slipped inside just as May came running into the room.
"Are you okay!?"
"Yeah May I'm fine, I just saw a spider, like a really big one. But I was able to knock it out the window."
"A spider?"
"Mmm." he nodded.
"Alright tough Tiger." she smiled sweetly, knowing all too well about his phobia.
Leaving the room (Y/N) emerged from the closet with a cute smile.
"You don't like spiders?"
"No I don't." he pouted childishly.
"Hey I don't either, just think its a bit ironic." she shrugged leaving the matter.
"You didn't have to come, well, fly over."
"Well." she shrugged "Gives me a chance to stretch my wings, although it was awkward putting my wings away and then climbing through the window with no fire exit. I forgot how much I actually liked being a mutant. And I'm all for talking face to face rather than through a screen."
For reasons unknown Peter felt comfort in this, knowing that if Ned had the same abilities he two wouldn't hesitate to be at Peter's side in a second.
"You keep saying how you're using your powers 'again'. Is that such a big thing for mutants?"
"Yeah, more than you know. If a mutant denies their powers for too long it can lead to depression to develop due to an imbalance of hormones and chemicals in the body that would be kept regular through using ones powers. My dads were starting to get really worried about me. But that's not a problem, what's yours?"
"Well..."
"Are you scared about telling MJ? Worried she'll be in danger? You don't have to do this if you don't want-
"No no, its none of that. I just texted on the off chance I didn't expect you to fly over. I'm just worried she wont believe me. I mean she'll believe you, being fellow book worms."
"All you have to do is show her and she will."
"Yeah I know that, I'm just being stupid. Literally it was just a 'what if' question. Sorry to waste your time."
"Hey I'm the one who came over without all the details. Besides, its more fun than being shut in my room and it gives us a chance to both be our selves I guess."
"Yeah, never thought of it like that."
"Plus it gives me the chance to ask questions such as, what are you wearing?"
Looking down at himself Peter was in his pajamas, which were the NYC top and Hello Kitty trousers Tony had bought him the day he had taken his suit back. He thought they would remind him of when he was at his lowest, but it actually reminded him of how far he had come, not only that they were really comfy.
"Oh these top fashion items? That's a whole other story."
"I'm all ears."
Thank you for all the congratulations. It's genuinely touching that you don't find these side notes annoying and read them ^^
