Chapter 38
"They're invalid."
"What are?"
"The bowling tickets." (Y/N) said holding up the now useless orcas of paper.
"Oh God I'm sorry." He groaned banging jus head against the book shelf in the library they were in.
"What have you got to ge sooty for?" She read the blurb of a possible book.
"Well if I hadn't been ill Saturday we could have gone."
"Don't apologise for being ill silly."
Besides (Y/N) had come to her own silent conclusion that it was that that weirdo in the red leather spandex was the reason Peter had been ill.
"Yeah but it wasn't just the date it was all of Sunday too and you had to do the rounds by yourself."
"Don't worry I was fine. The only irritating thing was Tony calling and me having to try and make sure I didn't let it slip that you were ill."
"You are honestly a God send, thank you for telling him I was ill."
"Well I am named after a Goddess." she chuckled.
Finally she chose a book and checked it out and the two headed to the canteen where MJ and Ned were waiting.
"H-hey, um, are you free this Saturday?" Peter asked hesitantly.
There they were again, those butterflies in his stomach again despite basically having this conversation last week. But then again it had been (Y/N) who had done most of the talking.
"Well not in the morning as my dads want me at some family event, but I'll be free in the afternoon, and then you know what we do in the evenings." But then she twigged onto what he was getting at "Do you wanna try again this weekend?"
"Yeah, as you know we didn't get to last weekend, and I was looking online and the Kingsman squeal comes out this Saturday-
"I'd love to." she cut him off with a bright smile.
"Great!"
For the rest of the day Peter couldn't help grinning like a goof, and although he'd deliberately asked in an area he had checked with Karen had none of Happy's surveillance equipment. Literally he had checked the entire school and over 75% of it was rigged. There were was someone who was still able to figure out the situation very easily.
The school day finished and of course (Y/N) and Peter dashed off to their rounds, it no longer looking suspicious that they went off together in a rush at the end of every school day. Leaving MJ and Ned to make their own way home.
But as MJ was headed out the school thinking which book she would read next Ned came running after her.
"MJ!"
She was kind enough to stop in her tracks as Ned panted to a halt.
"I.. I need to tell you something."
"Shoot."
"I think Peter and (Y/N) are going to go on their first date this weekend!" he practically squealed being the fan boy he was.
MJ was silent for a moment pulling a slightly annoyed face.
"You only just figure that out?"
"How did you know!?"
"Do you know how many books I've read? Literally every story has a love arc in it, I fully recognize the signs of puppy love."
Never underestimate the power of books.
"And by the sounds of it you don't know that they were going to go on their first date last weekend but didn't cause Peter got himself sick."
"What!?"
Ned had known Peter was planning a date but had honestly thought it had taken all of last week for him to come up with something.
"How did you find that out!?"
"I've got a good friend called DP, do not check out his Instagram."
Ned was left there all the more baffled only being able to think of theories that MJ either possessed a time turner, really was a descendant of Hades or could use the Force.
And that what seemed to be largely what the rest of the school week consisted of. Ned theorizing as to how MJ had infinite knowledge of all things involving his favorite ship, and Peter and (Y/N) eagerly awaiting Saturday during the day, and searching for the Goblin by night.
He hadn't been seen by anyone in over a week now, and Spiderman and Panacea would rather find him before he surprise attacked them. It was getting ridiculous that he hadn't even been spotted or tried to attack anyone. The two were starting to feel the pressure, as was Iron man.
Constant check ups day and night weren't an option to ignore anymore, and although Spiderman was able to thankfully avoid letting his plans for Saturday slip to the billionaire play boy philanthropist, Iron man always reported no sightings not even a whisper.
It was this problem that occupied as his legs dangled over the edge of a tall building of Friday night. A combination of butterflies excited about a date and worries about a mass criminal wasn't recommended.
It was then it started to rain, but as soon as a couple of drops fell a improvised umbrella was placed above Spiderman, Panacea taking a seat next to him using her wings as an effective umbrella.
"I've got you covered."
"Thanks."
"Oh come on I thought that was a half decent pun. What's the matter? Keeping an eye out for that dude in the red spandex?"
"Yeah him too."
"Too?"
"I'm just starting to feel edgy that we haven't seen the Goblin or the Scorpion for a short while. I mean I would have thought they'd be back on their feet by now."
"I have to admit I was thinking the same thing."
"Do you think they're playing with us?"
"Probably. That and they probably don't want to be caught by Iron Man."
"Yeah..."
"So I was just thinking maybe we should put any couple things off until we beat these guys."
"But we don't know when we'll eventually do that."
"I just, uhh..." he groaned throwing his face in his hands.
"Hey, you're yourself as well as Spiderman, don't forget the man part. And we've got to enjoy life."
And enjoy life they planned to do as Saturday finally came around. The Saturday morning came round and both had butterflies flying around frantically. Silas and Maurice trying to give (Y/N) the best tips they could, most not being helpful. And Peter changing outfit three times asking which one looked the best, before she practically threw a regular pair of jeans and jumper at him.
"You'll be find no matter what you wear tiger."
Evening came and the two met up outside the cinema. But they were unaware of the spying eyes.
"Ned they'll be able to see you a mile away with that hat on."
It might have been a secret from Tony, but not from MJ and Ned. So naturally the two had agreed to team up and spy on their OTP.
"Ah ha! That is where you're wrong. I put a piece of lavender on my hat and Pete knows I'm allergic to it and that I'd never go near it, so he'll see the hat, but wont thinks its me."
"He will when you face swells up when you have an allergic reaction."
"Its plastic." he replied smugly.
For once MJ was genuinely impressed.
"Aside from science you're smart in other aspects as well."
"Hey I'm sma- Duck!"
The two were quick to duck for cover just avoiding (Y/N)'s glancing eyes.
"What's that matter?" Peter asked noticing her slight pause in front of the cinema.
"Thought I saw someone never mind."
"Don't worry no ones tagging us, I asked Pepper last night and she's got all the Avengers distracted. None of them know about today."
"Is there honestly nothing that woman can't achieve?"
"So with no one following us, what's the worst that could happen?"
Sorry for the lack of a chapter last week but I needed to do important college work that and I was entering a design competition.
