The Fire
A shadowy figure on Memorial Street was lurking around the dark shadows. It was planning something great, but evil. The figure tiptoed across the street to the concrete sidewalk. Something was shimmering inside a small house just outside town. It saw the shimmering light and casually walked over there. It crept up to the open window of the small house. It looked inside. Nothing made a single sound. Not even the creaky floorboards that were springing up. It reached into its pocket and took out a small match box. The box slide onto the floor. It swore, while crouching down to get the box. The box had blue matches. The figure struck one threw it onto the front step and ran. Ran as fast as it could go. When the match fell it caught all the matches on fire. Whoever did that had something wrong that none of us can explain.
The house caught fire quickly. Quicker than any match could spread fire. Mrs. Macfrut and Mr. Macfrut were one couple with two bright children named Jackson and Jessie. Mrs. Macfrut was in bed staring at the blank ceiling when she heard a crackle down in the front door. She wondered what it was so she went down the narrow stairs thinking she had just left the oven on. It was much more than leaving an oven on.
Jessie was sound asleep. Until Jessie heard her father cry " Dalila wait-"
Jessie woke up by a sound of a person thudding on the floor. Next she heard her father sprinting down the hall. " Jessie, Jackson wake up! You have to go outside! Don't bring anything, just go!"
Jackson was confused because he had just woken up while Jessie heard it all. Jessie helped her brother get out of his bed and jumped out the window. Instead of leaving everything, Jessie had sneaked one of her favorite books with her. The last thing they saw was blue fire and a wisp of silver air.
"OW!!!" yelped Jackson. "Thanks for landing on me." "Jackson mama and papa are d-dead" Jessie said shivering with cold and fear. "Let's not think, about that now the house is going to fall!" Jackson was right. They had landed in the backyard where the house was leaning most to. "Let's go!!" shouted Jackson and they ran.
Jessie had just thought of the park with a shed that the park managers kept the water pipes for the water fountains. That's when she saw it. She saw an abandoned park with the shed near more houses that were abandoned as well. Right when they went to the entrance of the park, it started to rain. Pouring rain. "Great , let's go Jessie" said Jackson. They jogged towards the shed on the winding paths of the park . Jackson went up to the the shed door and pulled on the door "clang!"
The shed door was locked but Jackson could hear splashing inside. "Jessie do you have a hair clip or something." "Yeah, one sec." Jessie struggled to find a hair clip pinned into her hair. Her hair was knotted, her one red streak (that she had since she was born) sliding through her fingers while she tangled them in her hair.
After quite a while Jessie had finally found a hair clipped into her red streak. She gave it to Jackson with her hands shaking with cold. "T-there you g-go, Jackson." With just one turn with the hair clip the shed door was open. Jackson gave Jessie her hair clip back with joy. "Thanks!" he said. "No problem..." Jessie said while looking at her bent hair clip. "I can easily put this back in my hair" she said with sarcasm.
Inside of the shed was water buckets filled to the top. "That's where all the splashing was coming from the buckets!" said Jackson. "No dibs Sherlock" Jessie said. "Why are you so cranky!" Said Jackson climbing into the shed. "Well, if you have a brain you would know! We are stuck in a abandoned park with only dirty water and our parents are dead and we have a little moldy shed to stay in for the rest of our lives!" Jessie said furiously while kicking grass loose from the field. "I know how you feel, ok? I know that we are stuck here and you don't see me complaining right!? I have feelings! And a brain! I'm not as dumb as you think I'am!" Jackson panted. "So can we
please just stay here it's the best chance to survive for at least a day or two!""Let's go inside." said Jessie with a smooth and calming voice. When they got inside Jackson yawned ." Let's get some sleep" said Jackson. "But what if somebody finds us while we're sleeping?" asked Jessie. "No one will find us." he assured and he fell into a deep sleep. Things were different for Jessie she stayed awake until her eyelids were so heavy that she finally dosed off.
