Chapter 2
(Ezra pov)
I hate crying. It makes me feel weak. But I don't even care right now. Kanan is gone.
I flop over on my bed. Zeb has left me along for now, but soon he will want his cabin back partly. But for now, I am alone. Alone. Again.
Kanan was captured during an op gone bad. I tried to get him to call off the op beforehand-I had a bad feeling about it. But we went on with it, and this is the result. Our leader (and my Master): gone, captured by the enemy. By the Inquisitor. By the people that killed my parents and will now kill my Master.
I bury my face in my pillow and let a single tear slide down my cheek. I hear a knock on the door.
"Yeah?"
"Ezra, it's Hera. Can I come in?"
I sigh quietly. "Yeah, sure."
Hera comes in. She sits down on the edge of my bed. I turn my tear-streaked face towards her.
"Oh, Ezra." Hera pulls me into a tight hug. "I know. I miss him too."
"How can we get him back?" I ask her.
"Ezra, I don't know if we can. Kanan sacrificed himself for us, for you. If we try to rescue him and get caught-" Hera starts, but I cut her off.
"Hera, he's our friend! I can't just...Forget him! And I can't believe that you would either." I bury my face in my pillow again. Hera sighs.
"Ezra, Kanan told me something before we went on that op. He told me that the Empire - and the Inquisitor- really want to capture you. Do you know why?"
I shake my head.
"Kanan does. It's because they want you to become a Sith, to join the Empire as an Inquisitor. So if we go rescue Kanan and YOU get captured, the Empire has what it wants. I have a feeling that Kanan is the bait for you, Ezra, for us."
"So we can't go after him? We can't save him, there's no way?"
"I don't know. I hope so. There's always hope, right?"
"I guess."
"Do you want some time to yourself?"
I nod.
"Okay, I'll tell Zeb he can sleep in my cabin."
I smile shakily at her. "Thanks Hera."
Hera's eyes look sad. "You're welcome, dear."
After Hera leaves, I roll over and look at the ceiling. And then I finally start to cry.
