Chapter 1

I enjoyed writing the prologue, so I thought I'd make another chapter and see what you guys thought. Merry Christmas!

Also, Amy's nickname for Poe is Flyguy. It was orginally D, but I changed it. I couldn't think of anything better, let me know in the comments if you have a better idea (and yes I know, Ahsoka's nickname for Anakin was Skyguy. Sorry I couldn't think of anything better).

I followed Poe out of the forested edges of our base and back into the main building, which was in the shelter of a cave. "Who is it that you want me to meet so badly?" I asked as we rode the lift tube up to the higher levels of the building. The higher the level, the higher the rank of the people on it. I was shocked when we stopped at the top floor. I know Poe's a great pilot, nicknamed by some the best pilot in the Resistance, but he knows people up here?

Poe caught a glimpse of my face in the shiny interior of the lift tube and laughed. "You didn't think I knew anyone up this high, did you?"

"No," I admitted. Poe burst out laughing as the door opened in front of us. "Sorry, Flyguy. I didn't know that people with this high a rank even knew you existed, other than your call sign."

"Leaders of X-Wing squadrons are usually noticed, you know," he commented as we stepped out of the lift. "Not many people can fly an X-Wing, you know. That's why you'd make such a great addition to our squadron. You've already piloted one at age 14!"

"Poe," I started, then stopped as Poe walked through the elegant glass doors to the office of General Leia Organa. THE Leia Organa.

He turned back to me, holding the door open. "What?"

"We're going in there?" I asked dumbly.

"No. I'm admiring the door from the inside. Come on, Ams." Poe said and started to close the door. I ran forward and slipped through just as he shut it. "Do you have any patience at all, Flyguy?" I smirked at him.

"Nope," he replied cheerfully, smirking.

I fake groaned. "You should trade some of your cockiness for some."

"I'm good," he said. "Besides, who was it that was so cocky about flying that T-16 Skyhopper yesterday and who ended up crashing it?"

I stuck out my tongue at him. "The engine was faulty, remember? We had to repair it before I aced the next flight? And who crashed his X-Wing trying to land here?"

We were so engrossed in our playful arguement that we didn't notice that General Organa was watching.

"You two are something else," she said, smiling. We both jumped into a salute and straighted our posture , but she waved us off. "Nice to see you again, Poe. And this must be Amy."

I didn't mean to. I gaped at her. She knows who I am? Poe smirked at me.

General Organa chuckled. "Yes sweetheart, I know who you are. Poe told me all about you. Here, have a seat." She waved a hand at a few chairs. We all sat down, and I suddenley felt self-conscious in my brown overalls and plain green shirt. Both were streaked with grease from fixing the T-16.

"Amy, Poe has told me all about your incredible piloting skills," the General started, leaning forward, clasping her hands together. "So I talked with the other people in charge of the piloting squadrons. You might have heard, but Black Five was killed in a battle last week. Therefore, we need someone to replace him. Poe recommended you."

I felt my breath catch in my throat.

"Your age doesn't really matter to us at this point. Amy, we would like to offer you a place as Black Five."

"Really?" I squeaked. "Me?"

General Organa smiled. "Yes you."

"I.... I...." But I wasn't sure. I had just heen telling Poe a few minutes ago that I wasn't sure of my role here. But maybe this was a sign. At the very least, I could take my mind off the growing feeling in my chest. I could always quit. This was an amazing oppritunity, for sure. Who was I to turn it down without at LEAST trying it?

"Thank you, General," I said, grinning from ear-to-ear and not even trying to hide it. "I would be honoured to fly with Black Squadron."

She smiled. "Call me Leia, sweetheart. When the others aren't around, I don't really care for the name General. You'll begin flight training tomorrow. Report to the starfighter yard where Black, Red, and Blue Squadrons are located at 9 o'clock sharp. You'll find your new uniform in your room already. Congratulations, Black Five."

"Thank you again, Gen—Leia," I grinned. I'm ready for this.
