Chapter 10 - It Really Is

You carried your school bag in one hand and carried a tote full of kimonos in another. On top of that you had your shopping bags filled with ingredients to make treats for your class' exhibition. Treats and mostly pastry related things like cookies. You were getting most of the help from, Eclair who you were late picking up the pastries for.

After you got off the train you sprinted to her shop, not caring if your bags hit each other or got tussled around. You were on a mission and whether you liked it or not it was time sensitive and important.

You had to worry about foods, the costumes for the costume parade and the exhibition, not to mention helping around with everything as much as you could because there always seemed to be something going wrong at least once or twice every moment!

And of course, to top off the crepe, you had the stupid modelling and perfect couple contest to worry about. Thankfully it only lasted a part of the day. You were definitely not looking forward to it yet here you were thinking about it.

Well, that and everything else going on was something you were forced to think about because all Hell would break loose otherwise.

"I made it!" You slid the door open and shouted through the shop. Eclair quickly gave you two other bags to carry and sent you out.

She pushed on your back and gave you one of her best smiles. "Knock em dead at the festival okay?"

In return you grinned from ear to ear and nodded. "I will!"

In no time you were on the train again, pressing forward in order to make it to Dobengal's in time. His text told you he was starting and that when you got there you could help him prepare the Choco Bananas. He also put you in charge of preparing the candied apples and leftover pastries. He was starting (and practically almost finishing) his share of the work.

Now you only had to finish it off at his place and then head on over to Lucy's with your share of the treats and the kimonos for your class. Turns out you had your own costume to finish and worst of all, multiple outfits needed to be picked out by Sherry for your contest.

It never seemed to end for you.

The beginning of your work started when you rung his doorbell. He answered in his every day black scarf and a black apron to match. It was quite a sight to behold.

He looked agitated and covered in some kind of mix. "It's about time you got here!"

You only stood there in guilt while you tried to laugh it off. "I'm sorry..."

He left the door wide open for you and turned back to do his work. "I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing so thank goodness you're here."

You took your shoes off at the door and asked him where to place your multiple bags. He told you to place them on the dinner table and bring the ones needed to bake into the kitchen.

Already six o'clock and you two were nearly done. The whole time he pestered you about how to make something or what time to set everything at. You helped him of course, but when doing so you couldn't help but feel bad for his future wife. She was gonna have to be a pro at cooking or it was take out every night for the two of them.

You were actually a lost cause when it came to cooking too, but lately, because of the festival and the food you needed to prepare, you've studied cookbooks just as much as regular textbooks and figured it out for yourself.

It's a good thing you did too. Poor Dobengal couldn't tell a spoon from a fork in his own kitchen. He claims his mother was so good at it that he thought he'd never need to learn. It may be true in his case, but you still taught him a few things here and there.

"And then we just wait for it to cool off." You finished everything up with minimal time to spare. Already you were packing things back up and cleaning around.

It was already eight o'clock and everyone was expected to be there right around this time. You knew you weren't gonna make it at the exact time but you didn't want to be rude and turn up and hour late.

Dobengal offered to take care of the things you couldn't lift for tonight. Although it was a big help you seriously doubted whether or not he knew how to preserve them for tomorrow. Here's to hoping he didn't make anything stale overnight.

You offered him a finished and decorated cookie before you packed them up for tomorrow. After one bite he sparkled. "These are absolutely amazing!"

He reached to grab another but you smacked his hand away before he could even try. "Nuh uh. These are for tomorrow. You want another one? You're gonna have to wait until tomorrow."

He sparkled even more and got on his hands and knees. "Pretty please? They're so delicious!" You groaned and gave him one more to keep him sane for the night. "You are a true goddess (Y/N)!"

You rolled your eyes, sliding the rest of the bags on your shoulder. "Okay, well it's time I get going. Make sure to wrap everything properly okay?"

Dobengal groaned through his scarf and followed you to the entryway. "Are you sure you can't just stay and do it for me?" He whined like a puppy as he watched you put on your shoes.

You giggled. "Sorry, but as much as I want to make sure they're wrapped perfectly, I have to go a finish up the costumes for tomorrow. Believe it or not but I think you're costumes gonna be one of the best ones."

It seems every kind gesture you did today made him sparkle. "Really? Are you making mine for me then?"

You nodded and stared walking out the door. "Yep, but you're gonna have to wait until tomorrow to see what it is!"

The last thing you heard from him, before the door was shut completely was, "Oh come on (Y/N)!"

~~~
You rushed for the station and caught the train before it could take off. Only a few people were on it. You politely plopped down on one of the seats to catch your much needed breath and stared at the people sitting around you.
A couple of everyday office workers it looked like, maybe even a mother or two. There was this one girl who wore the same uniform you did. You only realized it because you've been stuck in yours all day. You'd have to ask Sherry to borrow some from her since you wouldn't have anything to sleep over in.
From the looks of it the girl on the train looked to be a first year. She had long white hair with a mo hawk of sorts sticking up. She also wore huge heart earrings and a black scarf with white polka dots. She was tall and beautiful but also looked to have an attitude. Then suddenly she was super nice to an old lady getting on. You couldn't tell what kind of personality she had but all in all, she was still a beautiful girl.
During your train ride you wondered what her class was doing for the festival. Most underclassmen were into it since it was like a right of passage.
Thinking about underclassman, you thought about Wendy and how nice it was having her at your school. She was finally a high school student and enjoying the thing you did last year.
You hope she enjoyed them at least. You mostly just studied so you weren't sure what else she could be doing. Hopefully getting her studies done and not meeting a weird boy by getting hit by his bike.
The train came to a stop as you were deep in thought. Your destination came so you collected your many bags and headed off.
It was amazing what neighborhood you were in. You've never seen such amazing mansions with such a wide area around them. You had to ring a doorbell at a front gate that looked big enough the fit a car. Around the whole entire estate was a wall for what you guessed was to keep everyone but the elite out.
Once buzzed inside you realized that large gate was in fact for a car and that your path was just a long road down to the house. There was a huge pond with waterfalls and luscious grass and beautiful greenery everywhere. Since it was already night time, the lamps were lit both in the ground and hanging around you.
The house was two stories with other buildings attached to it. There were walkways connecting them and stone paths around the outside.
No wonder Lucy had the nicest hair and the cutest earrings. Her family was loaded and not shying away from the idea of owning more cars than needed.
You wondered if even you were ever going to own a car. Everything was always in walking distance so the idea never crossed your mind. Then you started to think if Sting would ever want to own a car.
He would probably crash it like he did his bike so...
"Over here (Y/N)!"
You looked over to what you thought were the front doors and saw a happy looking Lucy in comfortable clothes. "Glad you made it! Everyone's upstairs!"
You walked over with your billions of bags and she offered to take some. You declined but she insisted once you were inside and attempting to take your shoes off with no hands.
"Here I got it." She smiles and took your food bags to the kitchen. She told you her maids can refrigerate it properly and have it ready for you tomorrow. As weird as it sounded you nodded politely and let them do what they needed.
All you needed were the clothes and the sewing kits to finish them off. You also needed to figure out the kimonos but you had all night to do that.
Lucy led you upstairs where you could already hear girls giggling and talking about the festival tomorrow. Turns out Yukino couldn't make it due to her family visiting, but Minerva came.
Now THAT was going to be a conversation. Sherry, Chelia, Wendy, Erza, a girl named Levy, another girl named Juvia (who you've had the pleasure of hearing about in more than one occasion), a few girls from class, 2-D, and a pair of white haired sisters all visited in Lucy's room upstairs. You coming in wasn't anything special. All you did was set up next to Chelia and Sherry. Wendy eventually scooted over to you guys and each little group connected.
Every once in awhile your whole group would talk and laugh like the little giggling girls you were. The conversation was often led to boy talk, but being the person you were, you talked about class work and the festival.
With the help of Sherry, you finished all the outfits and figured out the kimonos. She was your assistant as Erza and Mirajane (one of the white-haired sisters) stood as your models. The kimonos were perfect, the snacks were set and ready to go, and now all you needed was to fix anything that needed fixing.
A few girls here and there asked for your assistance and you gladly agreed to help. More was done in one night than you thought would be. All the outfits were near completion, but your very last one was something special.
It was Sting's prince costume. The one he would wear while doing the play, the one he'd wear during the costume march around town, and the one that would be made and finished by you.
It was pure white with a shining gold trim. It'll match perfectly with his crown. You could already see his perfectly fluffy clean hair holding the crown perfectly atop his head. Everything in his outfit screamed. 'Prince Eucliffe!'
He really was a prince in your eyes. He was your prince... and now you had to figure out how to get out of the slums and back into his arms.
"Hey," A sudden familiar voice rang in your head. You glanced up at the owner and saw Minerva. She looked so serious and you had to admit it was terrifyingly great to see her. She pointed to the door. "Come with me to get snacks?"
You nodded and followed her out, ignoring the giggles of the girls who continue to talk about boys, and feeling the strong swirling of nerves in your stomach.
When you were in the hall, the awkward silence took over and all you could do was stare at the weird wall art and decorations. Lot of zodiac stuff that's for sure...
"I'm sorry." That caught you off guard.
"... huh?"
Minerva turned around and said it again. "Look I'm sorry for ignoring you. It's just that Yukino has been my friend for as long as I can remember and I couldn't just leave her."
You already guessed that much, but Yukino? You still had no explanation for why Yukino stopped talking to you.
"I understand," You words gave her a look of hope, but you immediately erased that hope when you explained the emotions you've hidden for weeks. "But... you both ignored me for no reason but to ignore me. I know we are on a break, me and Sting that is, but I thought I could at least rely on my friends to listen to my side of the story."
Minerva's face held only guilt and sadness. "Look (Y/N) we didn't mean-"
"You weren't just Sting's friend, or Yukino's friend, you were my friend too! And now... all my old friends hate me... even Sting hates me..."
"Sting doesn't hate you."
"Doesn't he?! He can barely look at me in the hallway!" The tears started flowing. You were hoping to get all of this out during your talk with Sting, but now was as good a time as any. "And you and Yukino didn't care enough to even ask me what happened! You just pushed me away! Why didn't you even talk to me a little!?"
Minerva clenched her fists and sighed. "Yukino still had feelings for Sting. She thought she didn't need to listen to your side of the story because she would always believe Sting. I may not have feelings for Sting, but I thought he would never lie so I guess I didn't want to hear your side of the story either."
"So you choose to ignore me and my feelings? You chose to ignore our friendship?" Your tears were the icing on top of your angered and hoarse voice. "You chose to believe I was a tramp who cheated on Sting -- the one person who gave my boring grey life sunshine."
"(Y/N) it wasn't like that. We didn't think you were-"
"If you chose to turn your back on me then I'll choose to turn my back on you now. I don't care if the whole world hates me with their lies and rumors because I'll know what my truth is." You turned around and headed back towards the room with everyone still laughing and giggling. Before walking inside you took one last look at her and said, "Sorry if that's not what you wanted."
You left her in the hallway, explained to the girls how Minerva was still getting snacks, and continued finishing up Sting's costume.
It took hours through the night to plan with Sherry, but she gave you the best advice and fashion tips for tomorrow. Through everything you were just glad to catch a few breaths with her and the girls. Every situation and theory was jumbled in your head. Taking this moment to just have fun and laugh was the kind of break you needed. A break from the constant Sting thoughts and worries.
"Jesus Sherry I think I'm pining." Even with all that advice all she could do was laugh.
