Chapter 10: Making a Move

Your POV

Tapping your fingers repeatedly on your thigh you let out yet again another sigh. Unsurprisingly time had passed at a snail pace for the last few hours.

Once Sally deemed that you looked enough like a hunter and had explained the plan again she suggested you go back to your room and get some more rest, as there were still lots of things that needed sorting out which surprise, surprise, you couldn't help out with.

So quite frankly you were sick of resting so you kindly asked if you could stay in the library. Sally agreed telling you several times to not look out the window before hand however, but that didn't stop you pulling a chair up to it listening to the sounds outside as you read a random books, wanting to feel as though you'd been practical in a sense.

And then when you couldn't concentrate on reading anymore you reloaded and unloaded your gun constantly checking the several magazines you had on you.

However as noon came closer your nerves started to spike.

What if Scourge does turn up? What if anything goes wrong on the train? What if Amy gets hurt pretending to be me?

Despite you being nervous everyone seemed calm enough. Amy had spoke to you before she had to get ready to play decoy assuring you she'd be fine, saying it would even be fun for her. And before she left she wished you luck.

But then you snapped from your panicked thoughts when you heard a car drive away from the building. You knew it was Amy leaving.

Please let everything go to plan...

Standing up you knew you'd be leaving the Society soon, so you thought you should put the chair back so Sally didn't give you a lecture for sitting near the window. Then as if on cue there was a knock at the door before Sally walked in along with Sonic.

"Amy's just left with Bunny and Tails and the train is pulling into the station, are you all set?" she asked not wasting a second.

"I think so. I've checked my gun several times as well just in case." you replied.

"Good to hear, Sonic will take you to the station now." she said giving a nod.

"You ready?" he asked.

"Ready as I'll ever be." you shrugged.

Without hesitating he then picked you up bridal style and in an instant the world became a blur! You had to shield your eyes as the light drastically changed from the dim dims to bright sunlight. Cars, street life and other sounds melded into one along with the rush of colours and then it all came to a sudden halt.

Sonic put you down straight away but you stumbled a little feeling dizzy lightly clutching your head after that extreme roll'a'coaster ride.

"Well you better get going, head up these stairs and you'll be on the platform and be sure to hold onto the banister. Good luck with your mission!" he said giving you a thumbs up before dashing off again.

With your ears focusing on the roaring of trains you started to jog up the set of stone stairs Sonic had dropped you off at, desperately clinging to keep your balance when you got to the top a brisk wind met your face.

On the top platform the train was pulled in and you glanced around for Shadow. But you were made violently jump when someone roughly grabbed your wrist gripping it tightly.

It was Shadow and he was holding a nasty scowl.

"There you are! Late as usual!" he snapped not looking at you dragging you onto the train.

But you had to remind yourself that this was part of the plan, Sonic wishing you luck on your 'mission' and Shadow acting angry was to make you look like a real hunter late for a rendezvous. But that didn't mean Shadow's harsh voice didn't slightly scare you.

As soon as you stepped onto the train the doors shut, the whistle was blew on the platform and the train moved into motion.

"Come on, our carriage is this way." he said not looking back at you.

But his tone was no longer angered and rather than tightly holding your wrist, he was gently holding your hand.

~Meanwhile~

A silver Mercedes made it's way down busy roads, a rabbit sat at the steering wheel with a fox sat in the passenger seat, along with a female figure sat in the back hidden by the tinted windows.

Taking lefts and then rights it followed a complex route, but that wasn't enough to prevent two figures from following in the spare shadows that lingered in the noon sun.

The rabbit remained focused on her task of driving but diversions started to appear, accidents and nasty collisions causing police to usher traffic in other directions.

"Damn it..." she mumbled to herself going down a back road.

But as soon as they made it back onto the main road there was another collision, this time causing them to take a country road. Driving along for a short while longer however the road was once again blocked but by a toppled tree, too heavy to shift.

The Driver didn't hesitate to start to reverse but suddenly a large weight fell out on top of the car roof! And then a hand burst through the metal, ripping the entire roof off!

"We've got you now!" Drago yelled in triumph.

But him and Sleuth quickly paled at the sight of Amy sat there in the back of the car.

"Oh no (!) I'm so helpless (!) Whatever shall I do (!?)" Amy said in a fake dramatic voice.

As she did so she pulled out her hammer resting on her shoulder, her expression molding into an threatening glare accompanied by a smirk.

The two tried to make a run for it but Amy was on their tails faster than lightening eager for the fight, hammer in hand.

In the mean time Bunny and Tails just stayed sat in the shredded car in boredom.

"Do you think we should her a hand?" Bunny asked dully leaning on the steering wheel.

"Nah, I think she's got it." Tails replied.

Pained screams that echoed then followed.

~Back on the train~

Despite the train being modern you were half expecting to be dropped off at Hogwarts with the carriage you were currently sat in, it was private with two plush bench like seats facing each other along with a tinted window to your right.

Shadow was sat on the seat opposite you right next to the carriage door, staring intently at anyone who passed by, whereas you were sat right next to the window.

Trying to see as much as you could through the window you couldn't ignore how awkward you felt this silence was. Knowing Shadow wasn't much of a talker you were preparing yourself for a long and dull journey.

So you kept your gaze on the moving landscape, but then a vibrating noise caught your attention. Looking back at Shadow he pulled a phone out his pocket, glancing at the screen he got up and stood out of the carriage, still in plain sight.

I wonder whose calling?

Staring at his back intently he was a statue as you assumed he held a conversation who was on the other end. He then pulled the phone away form his ear ending the call walking back in, you quickly looked else where trying to make it look like you hadn't been staring at him.

"Can I ask who that was?" you asked, admittedly a little nervously.

"It was Bunny, her, Tails and Amy were just intercepted by Drago and Sleuth but Amy was able to capture them and now there on their way back to the Society to question them." Shadow said sitting back down.

But you couldn't help but notice he was sat a little closer towards you, and away from the door.

"So what does that mean for us?" you asked not sure how this helped.

"Well when we eventually get the crooks to talk we might be able to find out what Scourge is planning, depending on how much he told them. But either way that's two less dangerous vampires out there." he explained.

Giving a nod in understanding you were about to go back to your gazing, thinking the conversation was over, when-

"How many magazines do you have?"

His sudden and random question shocked you, but hesitating for only a second you were able to reply.

"Three, including the one in my gun, so I have 18 bullets in total." you answered.

"And how well can you aim?"

"Pretty well seeming though I've been practicing since I was 12 years old." you shrugged lightly.

A trace of surprise could be found on his stone face.

"The Sister wasn't stupid, she had me learning to shoot as soon as she could. First it was an air rifle and then I started making my way up to real guns. And it's come in handy so far." you said.

"I will admit that I was slightly taken aback when you had such skills." he confessed.

"Well I've practiced over the years."

That comment on time however led to another awkward silence, referring to how Shadow had saved you, now, 12 years ago.

"Why were you there two nights ago?" you suddenly blurted out.

"As I've told you, they were orders." he answered without hesitation.

"I'm sorry I just think it was awfully convenient how you turned up again as soon as Scourge did." you said awkwardly avoiding his gaze.

What am I even saying? Why am I challenging him!?

There was a short pause before he answered.

"If you must know until you left the orphanage a year ago my orders instructed me to stand guard outside the orphanage with the other staff whenever there was no moon. But I never saw anything else apart from shut windows." he said in a dull voice.

That made you stop.

"And so the Society saw me as best fit to aid you that night." he finished.

You stayed quiet at his answer.

He'd, in a sense, been watching you this entire time. But as he said he never saw you personally, but the fact he'd been protecting you all those years was... comforting. You guessed aside from the order he was also one of the reasons a vampire never attacked you again after that night with Scourge.

"How long will this train ride last?" you asked going off on a tangent, depserate to change the subject.

"Approximately 12 hours." He answered shortly.

That long!?

You couldn't help but wonder if it was going to be this long then wouldn't it have been better to travel in a carriage that could accommodate to specific needs?

"The reason we are in a day carriage however is to give the appearance that this train wouldn't be traveling such a distance." Shadow added, as of reading your mind.

"Okay." You said in understanding.

Now the conversation was utterly dead. So you carried on looking out the window, now aware that wherever you were going was far from here.

About two hours past slowly in complete silence but suddenly the landscape disappeared when the world went black, and you quickly figured out the train had gone through a tunnel.

I guess we must be going through something like the Euro tunnel, you thought to yourself as after about half an hour you still hadn't left the tunnel.

Despite it only being around 3 in the afternoon you felt exhausted suddenly, and so with the rhythmic sounds of the tracks and with no better way to occupy your time you closed your eyes, rested your head on the window sill and dozed off.
