Chapter 22: Escapee

Your POV

Run rabbit, run rabbit, run, run, run. It was an old fashioned tune, but you found it slipping into your mind and being sung as you yourself ran. You were the rabbit running from that demon of a fox, scared and whittles. As soon as you left the grounds of the prison, which you quickly recognised as a Chapel, a surge of energy struck you, now free from those inhibitor chains.

It would seem luck was on your side for once as you were fully healed and regaining your energy. But the area was unfamiliar, a wood in full bloom, the sun touching your face for the first time in an entire year. Had you not been in danger you would have surely marvelled at the sight. You were sure that Mephiles would be after you, you just prayed Rosy would distract him long enough for you to find some form of civilisation, anything that could give you some hope of contacting Shadow.

Eyes darting about you saw a firn tree, firn tree, apple tree, firn tree then another apple tree. You weren't lost at all. As your senses finally caught up you remembered the trees by sight and by smell the scent, bird calls rang through the trees that could only be found in this wood. This was the country in which you grew up. Thanking your lucky stars you turned left knowing exactly where you were headed now.

Finding a path you ignored it running away from the track a stubbly building coming into sight, running around to the front porch you breathed at the sight. It was a worn down cottage, but it was more than that. It was your home.

"I can't believe it's still here..."

Panting you header inside the door being on the floor rather than its hinges, looking around frantically you had no time to reminisce the past, there had to be something here to defend yourself. A vampire blade, holy water, a cross, anything. But unfortunately there was no hope of any phone or landline, they would have been disconnected long ago.

Scrambling into your parents study you ignored the faded blood stains on the floor from all those years ago and the stale smell of the house, to find a cabinet, one that had always remained locked but was wide open overflowing with littered papers. Rummaging through the papers you knew if any weapons were kept they would be in here, as you had always been forbidden to open this cabinet.

Clasping onto a solid object you pulled it out seeing it was a brown leather journal, the pages yellow with age and uneven, flipping through you wondered if it held any secrets your eyes darting across the words transform, fire, ice, levitation, destruction... This was a spell book! So it was true, your mother truly had been a witch.

You finally had all the answers but now you were more confused than ever, as you were clueless as to why your parents had never told you any of this. In the brief years you had with them you knew your father was strong and your mother beautiful, but never anything of their true traits.

"Mephiles said I'm half witch... does that mean I could-

Instantaneously in a swift fist to the stomach your breath was beaten from you! Colliding with the desk it demolishing underneath you. His venomous spat at your crippled figure.

"You vexatious creature."

Gasping you clutched your stomach amazed when you didn't feel any blood, but you quickly assessed there would be definite bruising. You glared up at him as he returned the same stare down at you like the predator his was, but he had several dents in his obsidian body leaking a purple fluid, Rosy had obviously been a challenge for him but you needed to focus!

"It would give me great satisfaction to break your limbs, but that would only take more time. Which I cannot spare."

Barely receiving his words you looked around desperately for something to help, catching onto your mothers spell book which had been knocked to the other side of the room. I need to try a spell! Think! Think! THINK! Recalling one word from the spell book you put stretched your hand yelling with all your hope and might.

"RACHE!"

A resplendent light ignited from your hand surging its way at Mephiles it illuminated the entire room, relying on your sense of hearing to catch the sound of him hurtling into the wall. The spell gone as quickly as it came you gasped witnessing the majority of the wall had been blown to pieces, Mephiles having been knocked a good distance away from the cottage.

But that's not going to keep him down for long. Ignoring the throbbing of your stomach you limped slightly picking up the leather spell book, getting over your limp you resumed your frantic dash. Now fully aware of where you needed to go, as you fathers words streamed back into you head.

"Now (Y/N) remember, if you ever get in trouble and mummy and daddy aren't around you have to run south. You'll find the closest town, and at the edge is a vampire society building. That's where the nice vampires and mobians are. Just tell them who you are and they will protect you."

As a child running the distance from the cottage to the town would have been near possible with your tiny legs, except now you were soaring with adrenaline and desperation, further more you weren't a small little defenseless child any more.

Grass turned into concrete much to your relief, the shops and offices had changed but the layout was still the same. Having to only head down one street the Hunter Society, a dusty grey building stood at the end with black barred windows. Please let me make it!

Scrambling up the steps you banged on the door panting desperately. "Please let me in!" your knuckles were growing sore "My name is (Y/N) (L/N) the (A/T)!"

"Hang on!" a female voice yelled from inside. Stopping your violent knocking you looked behind and around worriedly. He could be tracking your scent at this moment.

"What do we do?" a male voice came from inside.

"Well how the heck should I know!?" the female screeched back.

"Let her in." a second female voice came, but calm and quiet.

Then there was the clattering of locks.

"Come on, come on, come on!" you begged in a whisper.

The door flung open and a white female bat opened the door. "Come on Hun." she said ushering you in.

Breathing a sigh of relief the air in the building was that of old dust, that similar to an old book shop. The bat secured the locks as soon as you entered, a red male echidna looking you up and down quizzically, arms folded. You all stood in a high ceiling marble hall way with an oak staircase in front of you.

But there stood at the foot of the stairs was an elderly grey fox. You had to look at her more intently mistaking her for the sister, she looked incredibly alike to her. But her first was an ever so slightly darker shade, yet her eyes were the same colour.

"I can see you mistook me for my twin sister." she chuckled at you eyes widening, but she then turned to the bat and echidna "Rouge, Knuckles, would you please go secure the grounds and contact head hunter Sally Acorn that (Y/N) (L/N) has taken refuge here."

They both gave a nod before, who you assumed, Rouge nudged Knuckles as they walked off. Rouge giving you a small smile, most likely as she knew you weren't a threat. The fox turned back to you, even wearing the same uniform as the sister.

"I hope you weren't confused at my appearance, my name is Joyce and my twin sister, Claire, is the one who raised you in the orphanage."

"W-well I did think the two of looked similar..." you answered quietly, only just getting your breath back, mind still fuzzy.

"Indeed." she smiled.

"B-but how-

"I knew your parents very well and so I sent you to Claire as I knew she would be able to protect you. And now it seems you've fallen into my care this time. Do not worry whoever is after you wont be able to reach you in here." she reassured you.

"I-I wouldn't be so sure about that, I don't know what he is, but his name is Mephiles." you stuttered slightly the tidal wave of panic washing over you again.

"Mephiles?" she repeated out loud, hand on chin "I do not know that name. But as I said you have no reason to fear, nothing can penetrate these walls and Sally Acorn, whom I know has been protecting you recently, will know within the hour." you wanted to protest that Mephiles was stronger than he looked but she cut you "Now if you would please follow me, I have something to give you."

"And what exactly is that?" you asked following her up the staircase.

"You shall see."

Bunny's POV

Damn! We still have no idea where (Y/N) could be or Rosy, or Scourge, or that third assailant. We were all still stuck here at the HQ in Italy no clue as to where any 'em were, our best hope at the moment was now looking through known underground black markets for vampires, as we had ruled out all of Scourge's old hideouts.

"Bunny!"

Stopping in my tracks that usual blue blur came storming down the corridor.

"What's up sugar?" I asked.

"Head office told me to give you this message, it was Morse code sent from (Y/H/T)." Sonic said handing my a sealed envelope, they were only to be read by head hunters.

Taking the letter I carefully I read the message relief over washin' me. I bolted for the meeting room where Sally, Amy and Shadow were.

"Hey! What is it!?" Sonic called after me.

Kicking the door open I didn't hesitate to let em' know the news.

"(Y/N) is in (Y/H/T)! She's there with Sister Joyce, Rouge an' Knuckles!" I yelled slammin' the message on the table.

But as soon as I'd slammed the paper down another brisk wind went through the room, and Shadow was gone.

*(Y/H/T) = your home town
