Chapter 8 : Loosing everything?
Bunny's pov
Man them sick bastards! They just wasted as much time as they could to stop our chances of keepin the order. And unfortunately they'd got what they wanted.
They'd used the lame excuse that the order never included females, so as far as the court was aware that made our argument just a piece of dirt. So now we had a battle an a half on our hands.
"So what now Sal?" I asked as we left the court room.
"We need to take precautions and then we'll look into a safe house." Sal said.
"Alright Hun."
We left the hall but as soon as we stepped into the corridor we were met with Shadow leaning against a wall, arms crossed.
"Well?" he asked.
Shadow wouldn't have been able to hear what was going on in the court room as they were sound proof to stop vampires from listening in.
Sal took a breath before answering.
"They didn't except our argument, the orders been lifted."
A split second later there was a huge dent in the wall the size of Shadow's fist, we both jumped at the sudden bang and action.
"Great more work for me." he mumbled as he withdrew his fist.
He then walked off. Still keepin the tough boy act up.
Your POV
It was now early morning and you had gotten up at 6am just after dawn, but you still didn't know whether or not the order had been maintained. Desperately you tried to stay positive, trying to convince yourself that you'd be able to carry on living your life. That by some miracle the order would be maintained.
But what if the order is lifted? Will I be left alone to defend myself? I could barely defend myself from that green hedgehog...
At the current moment though you were back in the library with Amy, and you'd been introduced to a blue hedgehog named Sonic and the Kitsune you had seen at Cosmo's funeral who was called Tails.
But you didn't dare ask him what his possible connection to Cosmo was, thinking that the large dark marks under his eyes and his tired posture suggested that her murder had hurt him greatly.
And at the moment the three of them were trying to keep your spirits high.
"I'm sure Bunny and Sally were able to convince the court, just you wait and see (Y/N)." Amy tried to reassure you.
"Yeah no one can win an argument against those two, but I kinda wish they'd get here faster so they can let us know the verdict." Sonic said tapping his foot impatiently.
"Well they have to go through all the customs." Tails said a little dully.
No one would say out loud though that Sally and Bunny taking their time to get here most meant they hadn't been able to convince the court. As mainly Amy and Sonic lightly chatted to avoid an awkward silence you felt your thoughts drifting.
Shadow....
The name certainly suited him you thought, with black often being associated with shadows, and he certainly moved around as silently as one. Proven by how he was behind you so suddenly last night in that large green house.
And like you had expected he was the quiet type, obviously seeing the way he protected you as nothing more than orders. But like you had told him last night, you were still grateful.
Although it wasn't hard to tell that he seemed to avoid people, and so talking to him again like you did would be a near impossibility.
"Sonic would you stop wearing a path into the floor?" Amy's voice interrupted your thoughts.
Glancing up Sonic was quickly pacing up and down the width of the room, from book shelf to book shelf, you guessed he wasn't one for waiting that much.
But the waiting was abruptly over when everyone turned to the door hearing it click open. But no one had to ask the verdict upon seeing Sally and Bunny's expressions.
"Well? What happened?" Sonic asked impatiently.
Even though he didn't really need to.
Sally gave a large sigh before giving her answer.
"They didn't except our case, and the orders been lifted." she said regretfully.
Those words were like a punch to the chest.
"What how can that be!? How could they not except our case!?" Amy demanded.
A numb feeling was crawling over you.
"They used the petty excuse that The Magical Creature protection act didn't include females." Bunny spat.
What was going to happen to you now?
"That's ridiculous, over 60% of magical creatures are generally female." Tails added as well, in the same slightly tired voice.
"What's going to happen now?" you were able to ask in a steady voice.
You had to ask because you had to know if you were going to be kicked out the Hunter Society in a second leaving you hopelessly exposed to whatever was now waiting for you outside.
"Well we're going to have to take precautions. Obviously you can't leave the society (Y/N)." Sally started.
You were allowed some relief, at least they weren't leaving you defenseless for now.
"But saying that staying here isn't the best idea, it's central and it's the first place other vampires will look. So we're going to look into a safe house." Sally carried on.
"A safe house?" you asked unsure.
"The society has many safe houses for victims who require protection, we'll have no trouble finding one for you but making sure no one knows where we're transporting you will be the main problem." Sally thought out loud.
"But getting to a safe house wont be very easy." Sonic commented.
"We'll manage." Bunny said, obviously trying to keep optimistic.
So the order had been lifted, and now vampires everywhere would be after you. But at least you knew you weren't alone.
~Later that day~
Funny. How the smallest things can become a source of entertainment when you have nothing to do. Laid down on the bed in the guess room, which was now your room for the foreseeable future, you didn't have much to do with yourself.
Lying on top of the covers you'd found a loose thread, it was a small length. You pulled at it unpicking a couple of stitches making it longer, so you could entertain yourself as you flicked the thread back and forth with one finger.
But despite your 'entertainment' your mind was distraction enough for boredom. Your mind hadn't calmed down since you heard the order had been lifted.
Amy had suggested you get some proper rest as she knew all too well you hadn't gotten any decent sleep last night, you couldn't think of anything to do with yourself so you agreed. Also you did feel a little tired.
But it still being day made it hard for you to give into sleep, even though the heavy curtains were shut, some light still got in. Sally had been the one who told you that you couldn't go into any room without the curtains being shut, as vampires waiting outside might see you.
Her and Bunny were currently looking into a safe house, Amy, Sonic and Tails would be being productive some how. And then there was you. You couldn't do anything any more, just like when you were a child and handed over to the sister, you were once again reliant on other people for your protection.
*Knock* *Knock*
The soft taps on your door surprised you.
That's probably Amy checking up on me, you thought to yourself getting up from the bed lazily trying to get some sort of order to your bed hair.
Opening the door however you were certainly startled to see Shadow standing there.
"May I come in?" he asked, in that same monotone voice.
At a loss for words all you could manage was a small nod, stepping aside he stepped inside the room. As he though you noticed he was holding something wrapped in a rag of cloth, it looked like a book.
"I'm afraid I bring bad news." he started turning to face you.
"I already know the orders been lifted if that's what your talking about." you told him.
But you didn't realize your heart was beating a little faster.
"I'm already aware of the order being lifted." he almost snapped.
Obviously he was just as pissed at the order being lifted as everyone else. But if all cared about was following his orders, you guessed it was because it meant more work for him. Seeming though he only saw protecting you as a chore.
"The news I bring concerns your home." he carried on.
Immediately your mind rushed with possible tragedies that could have happened? Had the orphanage been attacked? Was the sister and children okay? If there was attack it would most likely be because of you.
"Whilst on a patrol I found your flat burnt down." Shadow said simply, although there was a hint of sympathy rather than complete apathy.
For an instant you were relieved that it wasn't the orphanage, but quickly grew upset at the fact your home, and in turn all your belongings had been burned down.
"W-was anyone hurt?" you stuttered.
"No, all other residents of the building were evacuated in plenty of time." he answered.
"At least that's something..."
"You should know that it was Scourge who deliberately set your flat on fire." Shadow continued.
"Scourge?" you wondered.
"The green hedgehog who attacked you." he said simply.
Scourge. So that was the bastards name. Unlike Shadow you hadn't cared about learning the green hedgehogs name, you had simply called him swear words throughout the years.
"He most likely did this to try and make you feel uneasy or afraid, but don't worry he can't get to you in here." Shadow reassured you.
And with those words it was like you were on the roof again hearing his deep voice for the first time, it wasn't monotone but had emotion in it. Convincing you that was he said was the truth.
But once again all you could do was give him a nod in answer.
"I was however, able to save this." he said holding out the rag wrapped object to you.
Taking it with both hands you pulled the rag away a little and your eyes grew wide as you saw a photo album.
Looking back up you were about to thank him but he was already half way through the door.
"I suggest you get some rest as Scourge's actions mean we will most likely be taking you to a safe house within the next 48 hours." he said before leaving.
Closing the door behind him.
You stared at the door for a second trying to figure Shadow's character out. Why had he come to tell you himself? And why had he bothered saving your photo album? You had kept it in a chest at the foot of your bed, so he would have had to look around for it in the rubble just to find it.
But you just put it down to he was more empathetic than he liked to let on.
Taking a seat back on the bed no longer feeling sleepy you pulled away the rag seeing the album was slightly scorched at the corners, but opening the book you saw the photos were relatively undamaged.
And your heart hurt as you looked at them, there was your mother, your father, back when they were alive and living. They seemed so happy in that one moment. They were both (A/T)'s and your mother had brown fur and your fur was the same color as your fathers.
It was at times like this you missed them all more than ever.
And then the other photos just made you all the more solemn. There was the sister when she was slightly younger, pictures of you with the staff, and most importantly, Cosmo.
But back to the present you had no parents, no Cosmo, no home and you'd most likely never see the sister again. These thoughts caused a couple of tears to escape, so sniffling you shut the album not warning to ruin the photos.
Burrying yourself under the blankets you wanted to sleep, anything that would bring relief to the grief you were feeling. You missed your parents, you missed Cosmo and you missed never having to worry this much.
But just as you drifted off you reminded yourself, that there were plenty of people now who still cared for you...
And with that thought you dozed off.
Third person's POV
It was still light outside. And the streets bustled with mobians going about their tasks, rushing to places, meeting people and buying things.
The sounds of the streets were audiable to Scourge as he hung back at the back end of an alleyway. Peeking slightly into the street he a small ray of sun light brushed again his face.
"Fucking hell.." he mumbled to himself pulling his collar up, retreating back into the shadows.
Now sunlight is often a thing of joy to mobians, mortals. But vampires are more beings of the night. It's more a case of severe sun burn for vampires, but sunlight can kill a them if they stay out in it for too long. But vampires often choose to stay out the sun as it irritates them.
But at the moment the sun wasn't the only thing irritating Scourge.
"Where the bloody hell is he?" he continued to mumble to himself.
Still waiting he threw and caught a small box of matches out of boredom, allowing a small smirk to himself.
He admitted that burning that girls place down was rather fun, no doubt word would get back to her and she'd now be scared. Just what he wanted.
But he grew stiff when he felt a wave of an ice like shiver roll over him, and he knew he was here.
"Well it's about time you got here." Scourge said putting the matches in his pocket facing who he had been waiting for.
But the figure refused to let them-self been seen, staying in the darkest part of the alleyway, as if trying to blend into the wall.
"I assume you know what I want." Scourge continued.
He could see the figure give a stiff nod, to which Scourge started to get excited.
The game was only beginning.
