Recap:
Charles stands and clear his throat. "I've taken this all into consideration, and I find Firo Ignacia.. Innocent and remove all charges against her." He looks confused when the words come from his mouth
Kiki snickers. "We got him."
The main doors open and a very confused looking Firo steps out. The two officers who led her in unlock her handcuffs and push her forward
She's still wearing the same clothes she had been arrested in, but otherwise looks fine.
The two officers leave and we all quickly stand up and walk over to Firo as the courthouse clears out.
"That was... surprising..." Firo is unsure of what to say in her confusion. Mason immediately hugs her, and she hugs back but still looks like she's trying to process what just happened.
As the two Hanbridge family members leave the courthouse, she earns two hate-filled glares, which she grins back at
"You're welcome." Kiki smiles
The headmistress stops near us before she walks out and smiles to Firo. "I'll be lifting your suspension as well, so don't forget to come back to school, alright?" She calmly walks out
"Why did they...?" Firo is completely confused. "I definitely thought they would've lied....."
"They would have lied!" Kiki smiles. "But we did something to them!"
"What did..? Nevermind I'll ask later.." she pauses and Mason releases her, smiling.
"I'm so happy that worked!!" He smiles happily
"Glad to see you're okay." Firo jumps in surprise as Evi sets a hand on her shoulder.
Evi calmly walks out of the courthouse with her hands in her pockets. "Still would've liked to throw that kid out a window though.."
Sonya happily waves goodbye to us and happily runs out of the building
Firo returned home to shower and put on clothes that weren't a week old, but the next day, she decided we all needed to meet up. She was still incredibly confused and understandably wanted answers.
So, the next day we all went to the library instead of the cafeteria so we could talk somewhere quiet.
"Okay, I'm gonna need some answers." Firo states. "How, exactly, did you convince William to say all that, and HOW did you convince that guy not to find me guilty?!"
"Well....." I laugh slightly
"We used some of Sonya's weird truth dust on them!" Kiki smiles
"Truth...? Dust...?" Firo blinks
"Basically this powder that forces you to tell only the truth for a certain amount of time." Mason explains
"How'd Sonya get her hands on that?" Firo blinks
"Remember the first time we met her?" Thresh asks. "She used a similar powder to knock you and Mason out.. Though that was red.."
"Oh.." Firo blinks
Thresh nods
"So... Why was the demon there..?" Firo asks
"You mean Evi?" Kiki blinks
"Yeah.. Her.."
"She was there mostly because she just wanted to help you.." Kiki states
"And because she wanted to beat up William.." Thresh states
"That too." Kiki laughs
"So why--" Firo blinks and looks up slightly. "Kanna?"
"There's something really weird going on.." Kanna is looking up at something
"Like what?" Firo blinks, following her line of sight and blinking in surprise
Mason looks at Firo, then follows her eyes.
"He--" Kanna whispers
"What?!"Mason looks at her. "Why is he here?!"
I blink in confusion and look in the same direction as the three. "William..?"
The pompous child of Charles Hanbridge was now leaving the second story of the library, with our headmistress, holding a few textbooks in his hands
"Why?!" Mason looks at Kanna
"We..." Kanna sits down with us. "We really screwed up this time.." She sighs
Mason blinks in confusion
"I don't get it.." Thresh looks confused. "What's wrong? Why is he here??"
"Charles Hanbridge expelled him." Kanna states
Thresh and Mason are both surprised.
"His father sent him here..?" Thresh blinks
"Not just that.... He threw him out completely.. " Kanna states. "The headmistress is giving him a new place to stay, he's practically been disowned.. We've completely ruined his life." Kanna frowns
"Oh..." Thresh frowns. "But we didn't mean to! This is all just some unforeseen consequence!"
"But he does kind of deserve it.." I mumble slightly
Kanna blinks in surprise and looks at me
"He kidnapped and framed Firo.. She could've gone to prison! And considering how corrupt this city's law system is.. She would've stayed there for a long time... much longer than she would've deserved for such a small crime.. Her life could've been ruined.." I calmly speak. "I don't see why you feel so guilty.. He wasn't a good person."
"But.. He wasn't that bad.." Kanna frowns
"I kind of agree with Kat..." Mason states, getting a surprised look from Kanna."I'm just saying... He didn't really do anything except call us freaks and frame Firo... I do feel partially bad...But it's better his life be ruined than hers."
"Don't you think we should at least apologize?" Kanna looks between Mason and I.
Neither of us say anything
Kanna looks at Firo. "Shouldn't we?"
"Hey.. Don't look me." Firo puts her hands up.
Kanna sighs. "It's better him than Firo, yes.. but we still took away his life..."
Thresh slowly nods. "He was mean.. but he didn't deserve to have his normal happy life away...."
"As much as I would like to believe that..." Firo stands. "He did kidnap me.. and frame me.. and forced me to spend seven days in the same clothes without bathing.. in the same barren cell room with the same watery soup for every meal.."
Kanna looks at Firo. "I.. I didn't realize...."
"What? That my 'temporary containment facility' was basically prison with less human-like treatment?" Firo looks at Kanna. "Well, from the outside it looks like a nice place... but those 'cells' are reserved for human prisoners... but, let's be honest.. the human cells were honestly more like bedrooms.." Firo pauses. "But the cells for the monsters and human-ish freaks were much much worse... believe me."
"Firo, I--"
"Listen, I get it, you want to forgive and forget... afterall, he didn't do much to you.. so naturally, we should all forgive and apologize to one another." She looks away from Kanna. "But I wont." She turns and walks out of the library
"Well.. she seems a little on edge..." Thresh frowns a bit
"Can you blame her?" Mason quickly follows Firo out
"I didn't mean to upset her..." Kanna frowns
"She knows that." Kiki looks at Kanna with an assuring, but oddly small smile. "Firo could never be mad at you forever.. she's just in a touchy place right now. She'll be back to normal soon, you'll see!" She smiles
Thresh slowly nods. "I still think we should apologize though..." he states. "William Hanbridge is not the kind of enemy you want to have.."
I slowly nod. "Alright.. We'll apologize.. but I'll punch him if he says anything bad about us or Firo."
The bell suddenly rings, signifying the end of lunch. "But we'll have to do it later."
So we waited until the end of the school day and walked out into the yard, between the main entrance and the parking lot
"Where is that self-absorbed brat..." I slowly look around
"Please try to be nice..." Kanna looks at me
Thresh nods. "He was mean... but apologizing will be the right thing to do, we did not mean for a backlash to hit him.. Our only intention was to help Firo, so we should tell him that."
"I know.." I follow Kanna as she walks over to the human we're looking for, who is currently outside of the main gate, talking with the same friends he had been with at the beach:
"-an't believe your father threw you out.." One of the friends complains
"Yeah.." William nods. "But it wasn't my fault."
"But didn't you give information against him..? While you were testifying to put that fire girl in jail..?" A second friend is confused as he says this, but receives a back-of-the-head-slap from one of the others
"Don't say that!" The third friend glares. "Of course he didn't mean to!! Right?"
William blinks, then laughs a bit. "Well... I guess I didn't.. But I also kind of did.."
"What's that supposed to mean..?" The third friend asks
"Well.... Before the trial my father and I got hit with these balloons that had this weird white powder in it... And I'm pretty sure those forced me and him to tell only the truth throughout the trial." He sighs. "I did do all of that, but I wasn't planning on admitting to any of it."
"So what?! You were just gonna let her go to prison?!" I yell across the yard.
Kanna and Thresh blink in surprise.
Thresh looks at me. "You okay?"
"What?" I look at Thresh
"You just yelled.." Thresh blinks. "For no reason...."
"Oh.. Right.. You guys have normal hearing.." I blink
"You mean you heard someone..?" Thresh blinks
"Yeah.. William is talking with his friends." Kat slowly nods. "So you guys didn't hear any of that??"
Thresh shakes his head no
Kanna suddenly looks nervous. "But they heard you yell." She points to William and his approaching posse
"Oops.."
"Umm.. Hello." Kanna laughs nervously
William raises an eyebrow. "What do you freaks want?"
My eyebrow twitches slightly
"Actually.. We wanted to apologize." Kanna states
"For..?"
"Forrrrrr." Kanna now realizes that in William's point of view, we had done nothing wrong. "Well.. Not really apologize... per se.."
"So then what do you want?" William raises an eyebrow. "Going to mock me for losing the trial to you?"
"No.. We just wanted to-"
"To what?" William is very annoyed
"Well, if you would let her finish, she would tell you!" I glare at him
Kanna facepalms
William glares at me and someone taps on my shoulder. I look back and Mason is standing there
"Don't get angry.. She didn't mean to offend you, Kat is one of the nicer people that I know.." Mason pauses, and smiles. "We only want to express our sympathy for what happened to you, we feel bad that these events unfolded.. And I personally hope that you will learn to accept them, and that you may be able to find some friends here and change your view of non-humans.. Someday I hope you will be able to see us as frien--"
"Aren't you the one dating the criminal?" William raises an eyebrow
Mason's eyebrow twitches and he immediately socks William in the face. "She isn't a criminal! And you know it!!" He furiously glares down on William.
William quickly scrambles to get away from Mason and I can't help but laugh
Mason grins. "Man, that felt great!! And you are a HORRIBLE person!!!"
William quickly stands and collects himself, smoothing his hair out and glaring at Mason. "You'll regret that..." He and his posse walk away from us
"Yeah, I don't think I will." Mason crosses his arms
"That was great!" I laugh
"That was reckless." Kanna looks at me.
"But he deserved it!" I look at Kanna
"I must agree with Kat this time.." A voice from behind us states
We all jump in surprise and look back at our calm headmisress
"How long have you been watching..?" Mason is a bit nervous
"Long enough.." She laughs a bit. "Don't worry.. I'm not going to suspend you for punching a student, Mason.."
"Oh.." Mason blinks in surprise
"However.. It's mainly because I feel horrible for doing this to you." She hands him a slip of paper, then walks away
Mason opens it and blinks in surprise. "Oh no... No. No. No. No.." He groans. "You have got to be kidding me!!"
