Part 7
Dawn's POV
Groaning and hoping everything I had just remembered was a dream I carefully opened my eyes. I was in the apartment and for the life of me I couldn't remember how I had gotten to the bed. Slowly lifting myself from the bed I was surprised to hear my cell phone ringing. Looking over at the bedside table I see my cell phone light up and buzz loudly along with the ringtone. Maneuvering my way over I grab he phone and see the caller ID reads OZZIE.
"Hello?" I answer as I put the phone to my ear.
"Hey, it's me Ozzie and I just wanted to let you know the group is having some kind of a cookout tonight and they wanted me to invite you so you could hear some other stories, I mean experiences. Do you think you can make it?" Ozzie questions as he yawns.
"Uh, yeah, sure I don't think that I have anything planned for tonight." I reply as I stand up and make my way to the small closet which now has all of my clothes hanging inside of it. "What time?"
"I think it starts at 6. I gotta get back to work but I will see you tonight." Ozzie says then ends the call.
Looking down at my phone I see its already 4:47 in the evening. Great time to shower and get ready not to mention I need to find out where Don went. Too busy paying attention to my phone and making a to do list in my head I walk into the bathroom and look up to find Don completely naked.
"AH!" I shriek and quickly close the door. "Ever heard of locking the door?!"
"Ever heard of knocking?! Don't earthlings have any manners?"
"Did you seriously just refer to me as "Earthling" you elf look alike?!" I yell in a tense tone through the door.
"Elf?! I am not short and I do not help the myth you call Santa Claus make toys!"
"Wrong elf! At least I gave you the benefit of being hot! Calling me earthling is worse than me calling you alien!" I yell as I go to the closet and quickly change clothes.
Just as I put the hoodie over my head and pull it down there stands Don right in front of me. This time he was clothed though and he once again was smiling. Why did he smile all the time? Was he happy that I caught him naked? If so, that is weird even for his standards.
"Why in the world are you smiling now?" I ask crossing my arms.
"We are having our first fight! It's only about seeing me in the nude but still it counts!" he grins that cheesy grin.
"You have got to be kidding me, our first fight is- you know what I don't have time for this! I have to go meet Ozzie and the other people who have had encounters with kinds like you." I tell Don as I try to make my way past him but somehow he blocked me.
"Then I can come with you, that way I can finish my task of erasing Kelly's memories." Don says as his looks changes to dead serious.
"I don't know if that is such a good idea, you and Kelly plus drinks I don't think that has worked too well in the past." I say as I remember his last encounter with Kelly and Alcohol.
" Please Dawn, I promise I wont drink anything that will give me the same effect as before." He tells me as he has now perfected the puppy dog eyes.
"Fine, but the minute you go overboard I am pulling the plug and I will drag you back here by your ear." I warn him.
Nodding Don grabs my hand and we begin to walk out of the apartment. All the while every possible way that tonight could go wrong was going through my head. I was trying to come up with a way to solve any and every problems that might pop up but as Don saw this we stopped walking right outside the coffee shop.
"Dawn do not worry, Kelly will not having any effect on me. The only human who does that is you." Don smiles happily and my heart melts.
Darn this alien knowing what to say at just the right time to say it. I can't help but smile as he grips my hand just a little tighter and we begin to walk to the park where the cook out will be. Since it was summer the daylight now lasted a lot longer than it did in the winter time. Thank goodness too. Making our way to the park it was Ozzie who saw us first.
"There you are, for a minute I thought you went back to the city since I hadn't seen you in a while." Ozzie smiles as he hands me a bottle of water.
"Nope, I was just busy with the article and well Don here likes to keep me busy as well." I grin as I take the bottle and Don protectively wraps his arm around my waist, a move I wasn't use to from him.
"Right, Kelly told us he proposed to you at the coffee shop and something about a baby?"
"Baby? Oh no I'm not pregnant." I laugh as I open my water and take a drink.
"We want to wait at least a few years after the wedding for children." Don comments.
I nearly cough up all the water that I just drank because of Don's comment. Ozzie pats me on the back as I get the air back into my lungs. Swallowing hard again, I look up and nod to Don who now joined Ozzie in trying to help me out but really it felt like I was being punched by Rocky.
"I'm ok, sorry it went down the wrong pipe." I manage to say as the three of us walk up to the group.
"There you are, Ozzie told us you've been busy with the article but another member has said other wise." The leader of the group smiles as she walks up to us. "It appears she was right too, that is quite a rock on your finger there."
Looking down at the ring that for some reason I really didn't pay attention to until now I realized she was right, the ring was pretty big and I began to wonder how the heck Don could afford it on a coffee shop salary. Something told me that Jeff was involved in this as well and I would question both of them later.
"It must have cost you a fourtune." The group leader asks Don.
"No, a family heirloom, been in the family for generations." Don replies as he hugs me close to him then kisses the top of my head. "My grandmother left it to me and I was only allowed to give it to the woman who won my heart and now I have."
Oh he was good, a little too good. Really since when did he become that good at lying? Looking up to Don I narrowed my eyes at him just for a second then returned to my smiley happy self. No even Barbie smiled this much. As the party or cook out whatever you wanted to call it went on more people showed up. Last was Kelly and she was clearly already drunk. Stumbling her way over to the food it was hard to resist the urge to push her face into the egg salad but that probably wouldn't have gone over well.
"Kelly, had a few drink already?" Ozzie asked Kelly who just laughed.
"Maybe, but I can take it, ask Don he knows." Kelly laughs.
Well there went the avoiding trouble plan as all eyes went to Don. Good luck getting yourself out of this one bud. Taking a drink even I turned to look at Don as if to tell him, "You are on your own." Don looked panicked for a moment but then went right back to normal.
"I'm sorry I don't know what she is talking about, I don't drink alcohol if I can help it." Don replies smoothly and believably.
"Are you sure it wasn't another one of your dreams Kelly?" another female from the group asked.
"I'm sure, he was there and he was so handsome and smelled so good." Kelly smiled as she locked eyes with Don.
Within a few moments she was standing right before us since we sat in a circle with the group around the campfire, each of us had our own seats but Don's chair was close to mine and the fire was right behind Kelly.
"I think you have me confused with someone else." Don said as he adjusted his glasses.
Kelly wasn't giving up though, she dropped to her knees and was practically begging Don to acknowledge her and the drunken time she had with him but he wouldn't he just looked at me. Don was beginning to be confused and scared though since now Kelly was trying to crawl into his lap. Ok now was the time I had to intervene. Standing up I grabbed Kelly by her shoulders and stood her up.
"Alright listen lady, he is mine and I think I have seen enough-" I start but am surprised when she swings at me.
Blocking her I take her hand and twist it so that I turn her around to face the group. I didn't want to do this but I didn't know what she was capable of doing.
"As I was saying, back off my man, he wants me not you that is why I am wearing his granny's ring on my finger and it's not on yours." I tell her hoping somehow she would just give up.
"You won't last, he'll come crawling back to me." Kelly laughs as she tries to get out of my hold.
"Yeah right, I know more about him than you ever will and-" I say as I see Don then stand up and go to stand before Kelly.
"I do not love you, I do not want you to marry me or bare my children. I only want to love Dawn. She is the one I wish to marry and have children with so please understand me that this is useless." Don says as he looks Kelly in the eyes.
Not knowing if this would work for sure I waited for Don to finish and I really didn't hear all of what Don said since I had to keep focused on my hold on Kelly. Once he did finish though Kelly was no longer tense and relaxed. Don then looked at me and nodded, taking that as a sign I released Kelly who didn't say anything but went and sat in the only other free chair. Did he have like Vulcan mind powers or something?!
"She now has no memory of our encounters." Don whispers into my ear as he comes and embraces me. "Now anytime she looks at me or you she will always imagine us together."
"How did you do that?" I whisper back to him as I look up at him.
"I was being completely honest with her, it's not that hard to do." Don answered completely honest with me.
