9. Encounters

After little debate, it was decided that lunch wasn't all to bad of an idea and the group set off. You watched them for a moment before calling out, "Naruto?"

"Hm?" He turned, glancing at you over his shoulder.

"Y-You guys can um... go on without me." You stuttered, nervous that you might offend him.

"Not hungry?" He inquired; a few of the others stopped to witness the exchange.

You nodded, suddenly self conscious of the others gazing at you. His cerulean blue eyes lingered a moment on you as you shrunk down.

"Okay," He said, "you know how to get back, right?"

You nodded again.

"Okay, seeya' later then." Naruto shrugged, continuing to walk away.

You watched his retreating figure grow smaller, and when you were certain he couldn't see you, you got to work.

You attempted to recreate things you had seen Rock Lee and Naruto do during their martial arts match. To your surprise, a lot of it seemed to come naturally as you attacked a wooden post.

"Your form is sloppy." A familiar voice critiqued.

You tugged on the hood of your jacket, which was hidden under Naruto's, to cover the bandages on your head wound before turning around. You were greeted by a rather long haired fellow with pale eyes. Neji, you believed.

"Kick with the leg that's further back to gain more momentum, and keep your arms up to guard."

"T-Thank you..." you thanked.

"You were Naruto's friend, correct?" He changed the subject.

You nodded.

"I thought so." He said, gesturing towards the jacket, "Are you a shinobi?"

Puzzled, you shook your head 'no.'

"What village are you from?"

You shrugged, slightly uncomfortable by his questioning. He appeared slightly irritated by your lack of speech so you thought you'd say something, "I-I don't.. know..."

"I see." He paused, thinking for a moment, "then how did you know how to fight?"

You shrugged, mumbling something along the lines of, "I-I don't know, I just kinda watched and tried."

"Well in that case, you're not half bad," he mused.

You shifted your weight awkwardly, not knowing how to respond. Luckily you didn't need to, because he continued, "Can you use chakra?"

You shook your head, not exactly sure what he meant, "Ch-Chakra?"

~Time-Skip~

The long haired male, who introduced himself as Neji, was polite enough to explain what chakra was before he went to go train with the long, dark haired girl whom you recognized as Hinata.

Their fighting styles, although unlike Naruto or Rock Lee's, were very similar to each other. You noted that it was likely they were related, considering how alike the two of them looked and how unusual eyes like theirs seemed to be.

You followed their movements with your eyes as much as you could, taking mental notes as you did so. Neji seemed slightly more experienced than Hinata, you noted, perhaps he was older.

After awhile, you figured that you had learned as much as you could from their combat and you headed home, well, Naruto's home.

As you tread along the sidewalk, you found yourself sneezing and coughing an unsettling amount. You worried you might be growing ill, and silently cursed yourself for being so weak as you quickened your pace. However, speeding up did nothing for you, because as if it was a constant in this world, you were stopped as you almost ran onto someone. A rather pale boy, whose dark eyes narrowed when he saw you, "Where did you get that jacket?"

You didn't know how to respond, and the individual in front of you seemed less than trusting, "I... I um..."

He took a step forward and you took a step back in response, he smiled but it came off rather fake and cold which struck a memory from the back of your mind.

The bottle slipped from his hands as he approached you, smiling coldly. You backed into a corner, shaking with pure terror.

You, now, were backing up, involuntary shaking as you did so; he looked relatively perplexed by this. You turned on your heel, running away as fast as you could. The back of your throat burned with every shallow breath you took. You began to stumble, feeling dizziness set in along with the pounding in your head.

"Hey, wait!" You heard him call but you didn't dare look back and instead kept your gaze locked onto the ground.

Everything ached and it only grew worse when you rounded a corner,  slamming into something. You lost your balance in response, falling onto your backside. You flinched, looking up hesitantly.

"(Y/n)!" Sakura exclaimed.

You looked around frantically, seeing the pale, dark haired boy from before had caught up. You instantly stood up, trying to run away but Sakura blocked your path.

"Quit it, Sai!" Sakura exclaimed, "can't you see you're scaring her?!"

You stopped trying to flee, coughing from all of the strain that was put on your throat. The boy, now know as Sai, rubbed the back of his neck, "It wasn't my intention."

Sakura ignored him, "Are you okay?" She went to rest her hand on your shoulder but you ducked away, nodding.

"I-I have to go," You finally looked up, letting your face become visible.

"You look terrible," Sakura said, hands over her mouth.

You wished she wouldn't have sounded so upset, that way you might've been able to just walk away but you felt like you should say something, "I'm okay..."

Sakura sighed, "just go get some rest," she stepped aside letting you go back to Naruto's.

You simply nodded and continued on your way, glad to finally be alone.

Once you arrived at Naruto's, you fell onto his couch and just stared at the ceiling, enjoying the quiet.
