PROLOGUE

"Geez, Tony, you really took a beating," the girl muttered, inspecting the big bruise on Tony's torso; "Where was your suit during this?"

"Well, I mean, it kind of was my suit," he admitted, his eyes on the ceiling and legs crossed casually. He was lying on his back in the hospital wing, surrounded by the rest of the group; all incredibly exhausted and beaten up.

"Your suit beat you up?" she asked with a raised eyebrow, her fingers already running over the bruise to find out how bad it was.

"Nah, my suit and I are good. The guy, Loki, he managed to get a rather spectacular punch in, dented the suit and it hit me from the inside," Tony told.

"Mh. Must be pretty strong," Anna mused before beginning, her powers creating a system of healing energy throughout the bruised part of Tony's torso. In other words, throughout the majority of it.

She felt the slight stinging she knew she'd get before the actual pain began, her head already aching by then.

"There we go," she muttered, leaning away from Tony; "Let me take a look at your face."

"Because I'm so handsome?" he suggested with a smirk.

"If you ever were handsome, which I'm not saying is the case, it's one severe beating ago. About one broken rib I just fixed ago, about the black eye, the slash on your face, the busted lip, th-"

"Alright, Sunshine, I think I got the gist of it," Tony interrupted with an eye roll.

"I don't know how you always manage to come out so surprisingly okay. I literally had to heal both of Natasha's broken arms, and yet here you sit," Anna commented, both her hands placed on Thor's one injury; his broken foot.

"It is because I am so strong," Thor added helpfully.

"Maybe so, but you're easier to heal as well, so if anyone had to get hurt, I'd actually prefer it to be you," she told as she finished up, smiling at him; "no offense."

"None was taken, lady. I would have preferred it to me, as well. Are you done already?"

"Yeah, it wasn't that bad. One severe twisting, that's all," Anna informed, leaning back in her office chair next to the exam table.

"Still. You have grown strong. When I first met you, that would have taken you much, much longer," Thor pointed out, moving his foot around to test his ankle.

"Yeah, I don't really know what that is, to be honest. It's like lately I've just gotten so strong, you know?" she admitted.

"Perhaps it is the practice," Thor suggested.

"Mh, perhaps, but I've been living in the tower for what, five years? You would think it would've kicked in sooner, wouldn't you?" Anna pointed out, happy her headache had not severely worsened, even though she didn't expect it to. It was never too bad when it was Thor she was healing, for some reason.

"Hey, quit hogging supergirl, I have a cut," Clint interrupted unhappily, waving his finger in the air, the tiniest cut quite possibly seen on earth featured on his thumb.

"You also have a bullet wound in your leg," Natasha commented dryly, her focus still on her phone screen.

"Yes, but the cut hurts," Clint replied.

"Yes," Natasha agreed; "Good thing it doesn't hurt to be shot."

"It probably doesn't. How many painkillers did they put you on, Arrowhead?" Tony budded in.

"Not enough for the cut, I'll tell you," Clint replied seriously.

"I can do the cut, but you'll have to wait with the bullet wound until after I've seen the rest," Anna offered, doing her best not to feel guilty for brushing his injury off.

"Of course, and he's fine," Natasha offered; "You must be tired and the doctors already fixed him up."

"No, they didn't. Look at my finger, Nat!"

"Clint, the only reason I'm not shooting you is that I don't want to add to Anna's work burden. Go hang out upstairs, I'll come to get you when she's done with the rest of us."

"Anna, you okay?"

Anna blinked her eyes open at Tony's words.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," she quickly replied, struggling to keep ignoring the pain her head caused her; "Just a bit tired."

"Do you want to take a break? The rest can easily wait," Natasha offered concerned, placing her hand on Anna's warm shoulder.

"No, no, it's no worries. You're the last one, apart from Clint," Anna replied, gesturing for Natasha to sit on the exam table. Natasha sat down as requested, unzipping her jacket and carefully pulling it off to reveal the black tank top beneath.

"It's just the shoulder, I'm not sure what actually happened with it," she told, showing the severely bruised shoulder.

"Damn, Nat, you'd think you'd notice getting something like that," Anna commented, carefully placing her hands, one on Natashas shoulder, one on her upper arm.

"Yeah, but you don't really feel it immediately out there. There's so much happening and you're full of adrenalin, it's not actually until you get home it starts properly hurting," she told, closing her eyes so she wouldn't see the healing. Some people preferred having their eyes closed, and Natasha was one of those people.

Anna closed her eyes, too, having figured out what she needed to do and only needing the actual work to be done.

The energy started flowing, making Anna dizzy - both of them, she knew -, and then the pain started kicking in. The heat in the room rose (or it felt like it), but that wasn't the focus; the pain was getting worse every second.

She pulled her hands from Natasha's shoulder just in time to lean back on the office chair instead of knocking over.

"How's that?" she asked softly, fairly certain her voice couldn't go higher at that moment.

"It's much better. Thank you, Anna. Should I get Clint?" Natasha offered, pulling her jacket back in place.

"Yes. No, I, I'll get him in a minute," Anna corrected herself, closing her eyes.

"You okay?"

"Yeah, just tired. Need short break," she replied. Natasha eyed her suspiciously but eventually nodded.

"Want me to stay?"

"No, no, is fine, just need to sit here for a bit," Anna told, already feeling herself lose consciousness. Natasha said something in reply, but Anna was so close to fainting she didn't hear, and by the time Natasha was upstairs, Anna was slouched across the chair, her temperature far too high and energy lower than it should ever be.

"Clint, want me to look at your wound?" Anna offered as she entered the shared living room the next day. Well, shared might be an overstatement. Technically, it was shared between Tony and Anna, who he'd taken under his wing. The girl had always been helpful to heal the group, but Tony was the only one who'd seen her old home, and he'd always have a special spot for her in his heart.

After a rather unfortunate fight (which did not go in his favour), he'd ended up injured and with a malfunctioning suit in a residential area, quickly found by a young teenager out for a walk - without shoes on. The girl had healed Tony before even revealing she had powers, and Tony had quickly offered her to move in with him.

While always claiming it was because of her powers, Tony knew that the powers were not even part of the reason. He'd seen a too skinny girl in desperate need of a haircut and some new clothes, clearly one who'd left her home in a hurry since she didn't have shoes on, and who flinched every time he moved even a tad too fast.

Once he'd offered her a home, he claimed it was because there were no empty floors she'd be staying in his, and that it had nothing to do with the fact that she was merely 14 and shouldn't live on her own or that he admittedly had begun to care for her.

Half a decade later and it had become only natural. Living with your family when you're nineteen isn't odd, and Anna and Tony had become exactly that.

Why the rest of the group preferred their living quarters to their own was simple; Tony was a millionaire, and their floor showed it. There was not anything that wasn't affected by that on the floor, and while the rest could easily borrow money to decorate their floors, they never did. Maybe because they didn't want to be teased by Tony, or maybe because they wanted to hang out with their family.

"Yes please," Clint replied, holding up his hand.

"Your bullet wound, Clint. I don't think that even qualifies as a wound," Natasha commented unimpressed from her spot next to Clint on the couch.

"Lean back, foot on table," Anna ordered, rolling her sleeves a little up so they wouldn't get in the way while Clint did as told.

She began working on removing the heavy bandages, focused on not doing so in a way that'd make it hurt.

"You weren't in your room last night," Natasha commented with a faked uninterested tone.

"No, I decided to go get some fresh air. I was so tired after all that healing, I thought it might wake me up," Anna replied, the lie rolling off her tongue much more naturally than she'd expected. She'd never been a strong liar, but this time the words had left her mouth before she'd even had time to consider it.

"Oh, right. Well, I just wanted to see how you were doing, anyway, so," Natasha told with a small smile; "You seemed a bit out of it yesterday."

"Not at all, I was just tired after healing you all."

"Oh, guess I'm not part of 'you all'. That's not hurtful or anything," Clint commented offendedly.

"Shush. Working," Anna reprimanded, placing her hands on the nasty wound.

"Said the girl who-"

"SHUSH," Anna repeated and grabbed his wound properly, making him whimper.

Not long after, she was officially done with Clint (had even fixed up his cut, much to the archer's delight) and had decided to take a nap, claiming tiredness in front of the group. It wasn't that she wasn't tired, per se, but more than anything she hoped to get some relief from the headache and that it'd be significantly better by the time she'd wake.

That, however, didn't happen. In fact, she felt like she'd hardly even gotten to begin her dream of riding a butterfly through a meadow before Tony had woken her hurriedly.

"Kid, kid, wake up," he asked, gently touching her shoulder.

"What's going on? What time is it?" Anna asked tiredly, slowly sitting up in her bed.

"There's something going on, I'm officially evacuating you," Tony told, nudging her out of bed. Glad the AC-DC t-shirt she'd stolen from Tony was so long and covered her underwear, Anna let Tony lead her into the living room.

"What do you mean something's going on, Tony?" she asked concerned as he walked them to the elevator. Her headache was still present, but given the emergency, she'd willingly left her bed.

"I'm not sure, but we're getting cap," Tony informed vaguely; "It's like you getting me when there's a spider, only the spider is magic and I'm Cap."

"Ew," they both stated at the same time before looking at each other.

"Magic spiders," Anna told; "Ew."

"Oh, I was thinking more about Cap being the equivalent of me. Ew," he added, getting his point across. The elevator doors opened revealing Steve's dim living room. While big (as everything of Tony's tended to be), it seemed smaller because Steve had actually worked on the decorations and filled the room with things and furniture that reminded him of his own time. If it hadn't been for the laptop by the desk and the general architecture of the building, Anna imagined it'd be easy to forget where you actually were. Or rather, when you actually were.

"Sit down, I'll go wake Cap. If anything happens, and I mean anything, come get me," Tony ordered before leaving, knowing the floor plan of the place so well he knew exactly where their captain slept. Anna carefully sat down in the curved armchair with the flowered fabric on it, curiously glancing around the room. Steve's living quarters where, in no sense of the words, of limits, but she hardly ever had any reason to go there, and she hadn't actually been there since she'd helped Steve figure out Craigslist. Clearly, he'd used his account, based on all the new furniture he'd gathered up.

Hearing the voices before the two superheroes entered the room, Anna pulled a little on the shirt to make it longer, however to no avail. Almost like fabric is sewed in a shape and a size and then doesn't change or enlarge from gently tugging on it. Odd.

"Well, what was it?" Steve asked as they entered, not paying any attention to the young girl in his armchair.

"I don't know, I just got Anna out of there and went to get you," Tony told, glancing at Anna who was listening curiously.

"Well, what makes you say something was off?" Steve tried again.

"I saw a butterfly," Tony said seriously.

"Oh, no, call the police," Steve commented, starting to look annoyed.

"I went one up and called the captain of the Avengers, you know why? Because the butterfly wasn't there," Tony explained, gesturing with his hands that there was nothing but emptiness.

"It sounds like you need a good psychiatrist, or a butterfly-catcher, not a superhero," Anna muttered; "In any case, someone with a really big net."

"Anna's right, Tony. You've been under a lot of stress lately, we all need to sleep, we'll check it out properly tomorrow," he assured, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"I'm not letting Anna sleep down there!" Tony argued, shaking the hand off him.

"She doesn't have to, you can both sleep here," Steve offered; "I'll take the couch, it's no problem." Tony looked doubtful but eventually nodded, rubbing his eyes in either frustration or tiredness. Knowing him right, he had yet to go to sleep.

"Fine. Anna, you'll take the bed, Steve and I will stay out here," Tony decided, looking at Anna.

"What? No. I'm not taking Steve's bed, I'll take the couch," she disagreed standing up.

"Anna, it really is no problem," Steve promised her.

"Nor is it up for discussion," added Tony sternly before she could reply; "C'mon, I'll walk you to bed."

"I don't get to have a say, do I?" she asked, looking at Tony.

"Definitely not. C'mon, Sunshine, it's late."

"Mh, just checking. Goodnight, Steve," she said with a small smile before leaving with Tony.

"Are you okay?" she asked him gently as he opened the door to Steve's bedroom for her.

"Of course. I'm sure whatever I saw was nothing. Maybe it's just Loki playing pranks from his cell, Thor said something about him being able to make illusions and such," Tony assured her, sitting down next to her on the bed.

"He must be strong," Anna mentioned, lying down on the bed.

"Nothing we can't handle," Tony promised; "Sorry I woke you."

"Yes, I am rather upset with you for that, I was having a pretty cool dream," Anna told, feeling the tiredness kick in as Tony pulled the cover over her.

"Yeah?" he asked kindly, one of his hands slowly rubbing her arm.

"Yeah. I met this butterfly and it said I could go for a ride on it, so we flew through a meadow," she told before yawning.

"Get some sleep, Sunshine," Tony muttered with a smile, making sure the cover was covering her adequately before going back to the living room.

"Steve," Tony whispered loudly.

"Steve," he repeated.

"What?" Steve replied groggily.

"Just look, will you?" Tony groaned, finally getting Steve to look.

"Wait, what the hell is that?" Steve asked, quickly sitting up before answering his own question; "It's a butterfly."

Surely enough, flying away from the bedroom was a small butterfly, which faded into thin air before either of the two men reacted properly.

"Anna," Tony whispered before jumping up and running to the door, not bothering with gentleness as he opened the door quickly, seeing the room filled with several more butterflies.

"Anna!" he repeated loudly, taking a deep breath before going directly through the small fluttering beings and reaching the bed.

"Anna," he repeated, gently shaking her. As he did, the butterflies slowly disappeared much like the one they'd seen before had done, Anna slowly opening her eyes.

"What's going on?" she asked confused; "Is everything okay?"

"It happened again, it happened again," Tony stated hurriedly; "C'mon, lets get out of here."

Quickly taking charge and leading the group toward a lower floor, Tony seemed to be in a hurry.

"Where are we going, Stark?" Steve asked him, Anna walking a few steps behind the two.

"We have to see if Loki is still secured, it's the only explanation."

"Of course he is, otherwise JARVIS would have alerted us," Steve disagreed.

"Not if he managed to get JARVIS down," Tony pointed out.

"I assure you, I am in perfect health, sir. I feel as though I've just been fed an extra-large portion of screws and motor oil," JARVIS informed the group, making Anna smile slightly in spite of the situation.

"Or if he managed to hide it from JARVIS," Tony continued unaffected just before they reached the door to the room in which the cage was kept. Unceremoniously Tony opened it up, the three marching into the well-lit room. In the middle of said room was the infamous cage, which in reality looked more like just a glass wall. The other three walls in the cell, however just as safe as the glass Tony had created, looked like regular walls, so the room seemed more like just an average room split up in the middle by a glass wall.

Regular apart from the large control system outside the cage, of course.

"Tony, you're going to have to explain what's going on," Anna urged him, finally having enough of it, before noticing a figure in the cage.

Of course, she could've told herself that this is where they'd keep Loki once they'd trapped her, yet she didn't expect him to be lying on the floor, only gotten up after he heard someone talk; Anna talked.

"It happened again," Tony told her, busy checking every setting there was on the control system to make sure nothing was anything but perfect. Anna got eye contact with the man in the cage, uncomfortable with how he just stood there looking at the three of them. Then she remembered her attired and tugged at the shirt again before turning to Tony; "Seriously, Tony, you're going to have to say more than that, you interrupted yet another dream where I flew on a butterfly."

"Wait, what did you say?" Steve asked slowly.

"I had a dream, I was in a field full of butterflies, looking for one I knew because it had said I could get a ride on it," Anna told Steve, who slowly looked at Tony.

"Tony, did you hear that?" he asked, making Tony wave his hand, disregarding it.

"Yeah, yeah, field and all that. I can't see anything wrong with this, everything is in order."

"Loki didn't do this," Steve stated, Tony finally looking up.

"What? Who did, then?"

Instead of replying, Steve looked at Anna, Tony's eyes following confused until a look of realization reached his face.
