CHAPTER 4: That awkward moment when
"Dillan, you are the worst!"
"Say it or I'll not leave you."
"No, I am not going to say that, EVER."
"Okay then, pay for your mistakes."
"Ahh, leave me alone."
I and Dillan were fighting, as usual. But this time, it wasn't my fault.
As we went to grocery shopping yesterday, Dillan came crossed a girl and began to flirt with her, and got her number. And when he came to me, he began to giggle like a little girl so I called him a lady for that. But seems like it hurt his 'manhood'.
"Say it Jojo, you know I am not going anywhere." he sang, pulling my hair even more.
I flinched a little but then stuck my tongue out at him as a teasing gesture but this guy's too disgusting because he pinched my tongue with his fingers and kept it like that for a good time.
"Ah, leave my tongue idiot." I managed to say with my dear tongue in his fingers. Ew!
"Say what I want to hear first." he ordered, holding my tongue with one hand and hair with another.
I motioned at my tongue. He looked confused for a second and then made an 'aah' sound and loosen his grip on my tongue. I took a deep breath and murmured,"YouarethemanliestguyIhaveverseen."
"Say it slowly kid."
"You are the manliest guy I have ever seen. Happy now?" I yelled out, jumping on my bed.
"Very." Dillan chirped, leaning on the bed rest.
"Meanie." I muttered, causing him to chuckle.
"So, how was your 'meeting' with Ashton?" I asked randomly, remembering that he went to see his brother yesterday.
"Cool." was the only reply he gave.
"Wow, that's too much of information Dillan." I said sardonically, rolling my eyes at the idiot in front of me.
"Aah, sarcasm huh?" he chuckled. "Really, nothing special happened. He's fine and told me that he lives in the same apartment as Ryan."
"Really? And why didn't you know that before coming here? He's your brother Dillan?" I asked with disbelief. This guy is so unobservant and lost in his own world that he even doesn't pay attention to his surroundings.
Conscience: Look who's saying that.
Shut up.
"Because he used to live somewhere else before this but as I came here, my parents called Ashton and asked him to find a place near me. He searched but couldn't find a satisfying area so he decided to share the apartment with Ryan." Dillan explained, shaking his head from left to right.
"But why is that? I mean, why does he have to live near you?" I asked, hugging the fluffy pillow to my chest tightly.
He looked around and whispered something under his breath, which was inaudible to a normal human.
"What are you saying DM?" I asked teasingly.
"My parents treats me like I am still kid so I need Ashton to help me with everything." he muttered angrily.
I slipped on his side and hugged him tightly,"Aw, I know that you're not a kid. Don't worry."
I felt him return the hug when I decided to tease him a little more.
"Even though you giggle when a girl gives you her number but still, you're not a kid."
As he heard my statement, he unwrapped his arm around me and pushed me away, gaining a chuckle from me.
"Stop making fun of me Jade." he exclaimed, pushing me even farther, but this time, I wasn't laughing because he applied too much force and I stumbled on the ground, banging my head on the hard floor.
"Aaah." I screamed with pain, holding my head.
"Ah, I am so sorry Jade. I didn't know you'll fly away from such a little push." he said, guilt showing in his big brown eyes. Dillan offered me his hand and pulled me up to the bed.
"Sorry Jojo." he smiled sheepishly, trying to gain apology from me.
I was angry with him but I couldn't be like this forever. He was my only friend here; Kacie became my friend too but not as close as him. He knows me too well; he knows everything that happened with me in the past year, he is aware of my medical condition.
"It's alright." I said softly, smiling at him.
"Great. So, let's talk about you now. What did you do after I went? I know you must be bored because let's face it, I keep you entertained." he smirked.
"Yeah, by your joker like behaviour." I joked.
"So tell me." he pushed.
Alright, so how should I put this? What should I say? I saw my ex-boyfriend making out with a girl?
"Um..after you went I went to find the bathroom but on my way, I saw something else as well so I ran away, without using the bathroom." I explained, swinging my arms in the air to prove my point.
"What did you saw?"
"Nothing special." I muttered.
"Come on Jojo, you know you can tell me anything." he said.
"Um..I saw Ryan kissing. Not 'kissing' but making out." I said slowly.
I looked at Dillan but his expression didn't change for a while, making me worried.
"Dillan, are you okay?" I asked.
Suddenly, he burst into laughter. How could he? I just poured out just a thing and all he does is laugh? Thank you God for giving me such a friend!
"I hate you." I stomped my feet on the bed, while he was busy in laughing.

"Hey J." Kacie called from behind. I turned around and saw her jumping her way to me, her bright red hair flowing alike her movement. I smiled at her direction when she engaged around arms together and we walked to our class. So, after matching our schedule yesterday, we discovered that we have almost all the classes together, expect the ones with optional subjects. As an activity subject, she had decided to take the decorative community. And me, I still haven't decided.
"So, what are going to take? You can submit your entry today." she chirped.
"Ah, I am still confused. I am thinking of visiting every single community and check out what they do. Then I'll decide according to my interest." I announced.
"That's a good idea. I'll come with you when you'll go, okay?" she exclaimed cheerfully. Being near a person who's so happy and cheerful all the time makes you like them as well. Glad to find you Kacie.
Our first half classes went like a blur. The entire group of teachers introduced themselves to the class and tried to be a little comfortable with the new faces. Everyone stood up and said a few words about themselves as well. I made a few friends. Well, you won't consider as friends so let's just say acquaintance.
It was lunch time now so I and Kacie decided to go check out the cafeteria. Plus, we wanted me to introduce to her friend.
"Hey Kacie." an unfamiliar girl called out, standing near a table in the cafeteria.
"Oh hey May." Kacie exclaimed, rushing to the girl. Worst thing, because of our attached arms, I had to run with her as well so practically, Kacie was dragging me to her friend right now!
"Hey, you must be Jade, right? Kacie have told me so much about you." May chirped, shaking my hand. But I just met Kacie yesterday, how much can she tell someone about me?
"Yeah, I am. Nice to meet you May." I greeted with a smile.
"I love your eyes. And your hair is so glossy. I like it." she complimented.
Aah, complimenting on the first meeting eh? I like you already May.
"Thanks. I like yours as well." I know, it's the worst way to compliment someone but it's better than not saying anything. Plus, I really like her eyes. They are so big.
"Aw, thanks sweets." she blushed, slapping my shoulder softly.
I chuckled at her cute gesture, rubbing my shoulder, not that it was paining. This small, blond girl can barely hit a fly.
"So, want to hang out?" May said, slipping from her coffee cup.
"Obviously. Let's go outside. I am so not seating inside this cafeteria." Kacie exclaimed, grabbing my arm.
"But where?" I asked.
"Anywhere but this." they said in unison.

After a little debate between the two, we finally decided to sit near the football ground. It's really windy and calm here but according my new found friends, it's the best location to check out the football players from. Girls will be girls.
"Let's sit there." Kacie chirped, pointing toward the benches. We went and sat there and discovered that it was football practice time. No wonder why the place is filled with girls.
"I want to see that hottie." Kacie announced,
I turned my head in her direction while munching on my chicken sandwich and asked, “Who?"
"The guy I told you about yesterday, Ryan. Remember?" she stated, shaking her head to make me remember, which was a very weird gesture to be honest.
Oh the glory. She wants to see Ryan, and maybe date him as well. And all can do here is to sit and watch her do it. I can't even tell her about my personal relationships from my past, we are not those good friends right now.
Conscience: Correction Chucky, it's 'relationship' not 'relationships'. You only had one.
Me: I am a loser right?
Conscience: Yep.
I shook my head and tried to clear it right away. I have to stop thinking about this crap. Ryan have moved on with someone else and to be honest, he have moved on too far so why should I should be stuck up?
But I even know that when I'll see him again, my thoughts will not be the same as they are right now. The thing that has kept me up still now is because I knew him from such a long time. It's really hard to forget and leave someone who you knew almost throughout your life.
"J to earth. Earth to J." a waving hand in front of me, brought me back from my 'deep' thinking.
"Yeah, I am here." I announced.
"You look lost. What's up J?" May asked with concern, with one of her palm on my shoulder. I really like what she did there but isn't the both of them too friendly? I mean, it's a great thing to be able to make friend but everyone is not so caring, there are many people who could take advantage of their friendly attitude.
"Nothing, I am fine." I informed with a smile. “What were we talking about?"
Kacie flipped her hair behind her shoulder and exclaimed, “About football players who are hotter than the Sun."
I chuckled at her exaggeration and turned by attention to the field, where the players were taking their entrance, with girls cheering at the highest pitch.
It's just practice session, isn't it? Then why are they cheering them and screaming? Keep it for the main match girls!
"Hey guys, it's just the practice match right?” I asked, motioning toward the players talking to their coach.
"Yeah, it is. Actually, it's the new selection time I guess. It's time when the new fresher give their try outs for the football team. It's really fun to watch." Kacie chirped, clapping her hand together.
"Yeah, you get to see so many cute guys." May exclaimed.
"You have a boyfriend May." Kacie stated, pointing toward a guy in the field.
"Wait, your boyfriend is in the football team?" I asked.
She nodded proudly and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Who?" I asked, curiosity building in my head.
"Ryan Matthews." as she said his name, I was frozen for a second. I widened my eyes at her and asked, “Really?"
"In her dreams." Kacie whispered in my ear. “Her man is the Outside Line-backer of the team. Ryan isn't even here today."
"So what? A girl can dream. Right Jade?" May said.
"Um..not when she have a boyfriend." I stated, shrugging my shoulder casually, making Kacie laugh and May stomp her hand on the ground.
Hey, if it's the try outs, then Dillan must be here as well.
"Hey, who's the captain of the team?" I asked, tugging my flowing her behind my ear.
"Ah, the hottie's name is Ashton Mercer." Kacie fangirled.
Oh great, now Dillan will never go for the try-outs.
"I'll come here again tomorrow to watch the rest of the try-outs. Half will be done today and the rest tomorrow." May announced, looking at her boyfriend with adoration.
I smiled at her and turned by attention on the field again. No matter what happens, Dillan have to try for the football team. It'll look great on his degree. I have seen the passion for football in his eyes and every move. He can't give away such a big opportunity.

God, that was one heck of a car ride. Because of the lack of ride, I had to come with May but I should have known by her chirpy personality that she must like all those teeny-meeny singers a lot. So, throughout the way to my apartment, she kept on playing different songs by Justin Bieber, One Direction and Taylor Swift. And not even their new songs, all the songs she played were from their early days. I mean, come on, that's enough torture. I mean, I like Taylor Swift's music, but just because of May, I had enough of her for the next few days!
I was walking to my apartment lazily when the door next to mine opened suddenly, making me jump with shock.
I turned by head to the person and saw an old lady with pure white hair, warm brown eyes, milky but wrinkled face and a frown of her cute, almond faced face. Dressed in a white dress with baby blue flowers on it, she took a step closer to me.
"Oh dear, I am so sorry to scare you." she apologized, touching my cheek softly.
"It's alright ma'am. It wasn't your fault." I smiled.
"Aw, aren't you a cute thing? Would you like to come in child?" she offered, motioning to her house. I have been taught from childhood to never enter a stranger’s house and I bet every kid is told this from the day they are born. But how can I say no to such a cute old lady? I guess it's safe to go inside as she lives next door to me. I believe me, this lady looks anything but dangerous or a pedophile.
"Um..I don't want to disturb you ma'am." I smiled, shrugging my shoulder. Damn, I am doing that a lot today.
"Oh no, I would love to have a company with me. I am all alone." she frowned, looking down to the ground. Aw, how can I say no now?
"Okay, but I'll come for a little amount of time. You must have to rest ma'am." I stated.
"Sure love, come inside." she smiled, walking inside and indicating me to follow her.
When I entered her house, a familiar feeling struck me.
Homesick.
That was the feeling I began to experience as I entered in. The house was so calm and warm, radiating a home like feeling in your senses. Little decoration everywhere, everything clean and not a single particle of dust visible anywhere.
"Wow, your house is beautiful ma'am." I complimented, smiling at her.
"Oh thank you so much cookie. And don't call me ma'am. Granny would be great." she said cheerfully.
I chuckled and nodded my head.
"So, where's your family?" I asked, taking a seat opposite to her on the couch. It was so clean and pearly white that you won't even dare to sit on it because of the fear to dirt it up.
Her face was plastered with a small smile after my question. She looked at me and spoke, “My husband died twenty five years ago. He had Cancer but tried his best to fight it. After his death, I am all alone."
I was shocked to hear her story, and was feeling guilty for asking such a stupid and sensitive question.
"I am sorry for asking that." I apologized and she shook her head and replied, “Oh dear, it's no problem. I don't feel sad about it, I feel proud telling people about him. He was a person to be proud about, not feeling sad and gloomy."
I nodded slightly and spoke, “He must be a great man. And what about your children?"
"I don't have any."
Damn, why do I keep on asking such idiotic questions? I should have kept my mouth closed.
"I am so sorry again. I don't know why but my mouth's running a lot today." I joked, trying to lighten up the atmosphere which was tightened by me.
She giggled at my remark and shook her head adorably.
"You're an adorable thing cookie." her eyes widened and she continued,"I can call you that?"
"Of course, you can call me anything, granny." I smiled, pressurizing on the last part, making her smile widely.
"Cookie suits you. Your hair reminds me of the cookie I make for the boy next door." she stated.
"Really? I love cookies so no problem." I grinned. I had many foodie nicknames granny, not a new thing for me.
"What is your name dear?" she asked.
"Jade." I smiled.
"Such a beautiful name, just like you." she complimented. Then suddenly, she stood up and announced, “I’ll make them for you too."
"Not right now granny. No need to do any extra labour. It's alright." I exclaimed, getting up with her to stop her.
"Oh no cookie, it's alright. I love making them anyways." she smiled, touching my cheek again.
I smiled and shook my head,"I promise granny. I'll come here again then you make me cookie, okay? I'll bring my friend as well. He lives here as well; he will love you and your food."
She giggled and nodded.
"Bye granny, visit me anytime you want. I will be right at your service." I saluted her and walked to the door.
"Bye cookie." she waved with her cute giggle.
I opened the door and bumped into someone. I looked up and saw a familiar light brown haired guy, holding a huge box in his arms, smiling at me.
"Hey Jade." he wished.
"Hey Ashton. How are you?" I asked.
"Great. You?"
"Sailing in the same boat as you. What's with the box?" I asked, tugging my hands in my jeans pocket.
"Ah, this? I am moving in next door to you." he smirked. Oh yeah, Dillan told me that Ashton's moving into the same apartment as Ryan.
"Alright, see you around then." I smiled and opened my door.
"Bye Mewly." he joked, using the name he called me when we first met.
"Bye!" I left out a chuckle and went inside.
After taking a warm shower and dressing in my pyjama and baggy shirt, I walked to the balcony for some fresh air. I leaned to the railing and got struck with the city view in front of me. Busy people everywhere, kids playing in the near park.
I turned my head to my right but after seeing who was standing there, I immediately turned back.
Ryan.
He was leaning to the railing, just like me. I turned to my left and saw granny watering ehr plants. Her head snapped in my direction and she waved, “Hello cookie."
I chuckled and waved back, “Hi granny."
"How are you?" she asked, keeping the gieter down.
"We met an hour ago granny. i am the same as earlier. You?" I chuckled at her adorable face.
"Oh, it already seems like we met a long time ago." she opened her mouth to say something else but then her attention went something behind me.
"Hello Muffin." she grinned, waving her hand again. I turned around and discovered that she was referring to Ryan. Muffin? Wow, serves him great granny!
"Hey Granny." he spoke in his deep voice. It was been so long I have heard him speak. I even missed his husky, deep but yet melodic voice. He looked a tired with bags under his eyes. His sun kissed complexion was the same perfect one as before. He looked tired but still handsome. He was smiling slightly at granny and that's when our eyes met.
He looked intensely at me which caused me to get weak at my knees. I felt the same electric shock so decided to turn around to face Granny instead. I won't last very longer if I kept on playing the staring game.
"Oh Cookie, he's Ryan but I call him Muffin because he's as cute as one." granny smiled, pointing toward Ryan.
I turned around and waved at him awkwardly, “Hi Ryan."
Acting like you don’t know the person in front of you is hard, especially when he was such an important part of your life.
"And Ryan, she's Jade. I met her today, she's an adorable little thing." she exclaimed, now speaking to Ryan.
His eyes shifted from granny to me and spoke,"Hey Jade."
I smiled weakly at him and looked away to prevent myself from doing any awkward thing.
"Um..I got to go granny. I'll meet you tomorrow. Bye, take care." I waved and went inside.
Phew, granny made it so awkward. But she said one thing that was damn true, he really is as cute as a button.
