Chapter 11🌻
Derinsola's POV
"Do you know her? Lola?" Deborah asked me as I shot her a look of confusion.
How did she know her name?
"Yeah, She's my girlfriend" I told her as I avoided her gaze.
Instead, I looked across the room focusing of Lola and Tunmise, who were conversing intently.
"You have gotta be kidding me" She told me with a dry laugh before looking at me with disbelief.
"Look, I don't mean to be a bitch or anything but that girl is a major psycho"She informed me as I brought my hands towards my chin, wondering what made her say this.
She was married to someone I hadn't met before and never even informed me when they were dating.
So, why did she think she have the right to talk about who I claim is my girlfriend.
"Derin, I know her, from school. She's crazy." She told me as I gave her a disappointed look.
"Deborah, you have no....."I started as she immediately cut me off.
"Listen, I'm your close friend. I will never want to hurt your relationship on purpose. So, trust me, she is bad news" She spoke again as I gave her a small smile, not wanting to act like I was angry.
"It's for me to decide" I told her with a pat on her expose back as I immediately withdrew my hand, trying to stop any emotions or feeling that came with touching her.
Lola is bad news.
No doubt!
But I wish I didn't hear it from Deborah. I wanted her to know I wasn't heartbroken, not to think I was some idiot who was dating a conartist.
I looked towards Lola and imagined what Deborah meant by bad news.
How was she so famous for being violent?
Though, to Tunmise, she was a good friend but I still can't forget the incident Tunmise kept chanting on.
Something about a class rep.
It still was violence.
I turned away from Deborah whose husband seemed to be returning to her side as I sighed.
It's been close to 2 hours since we arrived and my mother, seemed to like Lola.
Despite the fact that occasionally she let out snarky comment, my mother just saw her as amusing and real.
My dad was indifferent. He just liked the fact that I had moved on from Deborah.
Tunmise joined in conversing with my mother and Lola, while Kola, spoke mostly to the guys.
While I found myself relapsing into heart break. I just wanted to leave.
Deborah and Lola hadn't had any other encounters with each other and I supposed Lola also equally didn't like Deborah.
"Guy!! You aren't planning to date that girl, for real right?" I heard from behind me as I paused before Clement came into view.
What?
"What do you mean?" I asked him even though I understood him quite clearly.
"You wouldn't actually date, Lola, right?" He asked me as I shot him a confused look.
Nope, definitely not.
"No. Why?" I replied honestly as I felt like I knew what followed.
"Good. I want to ask her out. She's so freaking hot and I love her wits. She seems like a challenge." He confessed as I couldn't help but feel irritated at his words.
She wasn't a game.
I knew Clement well and his relationships never lasted a week. He is know to be a good player.
"I doubt..." I started off sounding as uninterested as possible.
I really didn't care but I didn't feel entirely cool with the idea.
After tonight, I sure as hell, do not want to see her again.
If she had something with Clement, it could somehow affect me and.....
I just didn't want it to happen.
"You doubt what? There's nothing between you both and I actually like her, so I'm gonna do it. No excuses" He told me before patting my back and walking away with a smirk.
Actually like her?
Pffft?
What a liar?
But, I never even told Lola that some of my friends were aware of the whole fake dating thing.
So, I was sure she wouldn't spare him a chance.
I concluded before walking but suddenly halted when I realised who she was.
She was a money craving lady. She would probably jump into his arms, seeing he was rich.
Uhhh, whatever I didn't care.
I moved towards where my mother Tunmise and Lola stood as my mother stroked Lola's hair as they laughed intently.
I just hope she doesn't get too attached.
I felt my heart tug at this thought.
"Hey Ladies" I spoke as they all shot their heads towards me while I threw an arm around Lola's neck, moving closer towards her.
And I felt myself taking note of her scent. She smelled really good....
For a conartist.
She looked at me for a split second before looking back down.
"You look so good together."My mother commented as Tunmise's face shrunk in disagreement.
"Lola dear, take care of my son o. He can't deal with heart break."She told her grabbing Lola's hand as Tunmise bursted into laughter.
She was talking about Deborah.
"It's true. He can't" She spoke as I glared at her.
I noticed Lola's tight smile as she nodded before looking at me from the corner of her eyes and I saw that glint, that emotion that flashed through her eyes for a second.
Guilt!
🎶I get sick when I'm far away from you for so long🎵
We heard the song Medicine by Timi Dakolo playing as I shot my eyes towards the other end of the hall.
It was the bride and groom. They had started slow dancing as everyone watched them.
My mother and Tunmise went straight ahead of us and joined the crowd in cooing at the couples first dance.
While I felt a pang in my chest from just watching them.
I hated to admit but they looked like a great match.
And they both looked happy.
I couldn't believe it but I came to the realisation that maybe Deborah had never loved me after all.
She wasn't meant to be with me.
She was meant to be with him. Raymond.
I felt a pair of eyes on my as I looked towards my side watching Lola pitiful stare at me like I was a lost puppy.
She clearly thought I was pathetic.
After the painful dance finally ended, another song was played and most couple joined him including my parents and Deborah's parents.
Kola danced with his sister as they seemed to be arguing, while at it.
I wasn't in the mood to dance, so I didn't attempt joining.
I expected Lola to urge us to join but instead, she grabbed a drink and sipped on it slowly watching other people.

Lola's POV
I don't think I'll ever love Nobody, nobody, but youuuu..
Honestly, I love this song.
But I could barely walk properly in this uncomfortable dress and heels, I could barely imagine dancing in them.
I sipped slowly on the wine as the last few word's Derinsola's mother uttered made me question myself.
I was fooling her, despite how nice she was.
She almost reminded me of my mother. The wise words, calm personality and cheery type of person.
I noticed at Kola left Tunmise, who was apparently his sister and whispered something into Derinsola's ear as Derin didn't seem cool with his words.
Kola left immediately leaving Derin who turned towards me with a tight smile.
"Let's dance" He ordered as I stared in a rude manner.
Dance ke?
"I'm sorry but, I don't really..." I trailed off as he grabbed the glass from my hand placing it down and pulling me towards the are where people dancing, making me face him.
What sort of person was he?!
He can't just force someone into dancing.
"I seriously can't dance" I explained as he ignored me pulling me closer.
"It's not really dancing. Just move and stop arguing" He whispered as I rolled my eyes.
"If I faint of exhaustion, it's on you" I warned as his hands found their way to my hips and I couldn't help but feel like we acted much more realistically than we ought to.
"Don't be dramatic" He told me with a small smirk playing on his lips as I found myself staying silent in response.
I had never in my life been in this position before.
I mean slow dancing.
I couldn't help but imagine if I could one day experience something like this, for real.
But I immediately discarded that thought, knowing I shouldn't be thinking like this.
They slow danced in their rich ass world but in mine, the bride and groom would dance till they sweat while everyone else sprayed them money.
I looked at myself then back at Derin who looked at me like this was all real.
And it made me feel different.
And suddenly, the unexpected happened.
I felt my heart pace increase.
What the hell?!
I widened my eyes when I felt this as I immediately pulled away leaving him looking at me in confusion.
I was being delirious.
I found my way outside as I let out a deep breath once I felt the fresh air hit my face.
My body was way into acting.
It's taking an effect on me.
What was all those thoughts about?
And why did my chest suddenly pound?
"Heyyy"I heard from behind me as turned around, and was faced with one of Derinsola's friend.
What does this one want?
"Hi" I replied to the guy who kept walking till he halted in front of me.
"Lola, right?!" He told me as I nodded looking at him with a blank look.
"Yeah, is there a problem?" I asked him as he immediately shook his head, in denial.
"Actually, I just wanted to let you know that you are very pretty" He told me as I forced up a smile.
"Thank you" I replied inwardly rolling my eyes.
Did he need something?
I was enjoying being alone.
"I am Clement. I was hoping if I could get to know you more. You have an interesting personality" He spoke as I furrowed my eyesbrows together at his words.
Whutttt!!
"Aren't you Derinsola's friend?" I asked him as he chuckled a bit before looking back at me.
I was his friend's girlfriend, at least to him.
"Yeah. But, I am actually aware that you aren't really, you know...." He told me as I nodded saying 'ohhhhʼ.
He knew we were a fake.
Why didn't Derin tell me other people were aware of this?
"Ohhh, okay. So, you were saying?" I asked him, changing my intonation into a rude one.
I'm glad he knew we weren't really dating but he kinda irritated me right now.
First, I wasn't ready for this.
Second, him asking his friend's fake girlfriend out is not justified either. It could lead to future problems.
And did he really think he could just hit on me, even though I didn't know him?
"Can I get your number or something? So we could talk." He asked me as sighed before looking back at him.
"I'm sorry, but I don't really give my number out."I replied as he chuckled moving closer.
"Look baby girl, don't be too difficult" He told me as I felt my lips part in disbelief.
Is this one mad ni?
"Difficult?! Excuse me, are you okay?" I asked dropping my calm tone.
"Yes nau."He replied inching closer.
What was going on?!
"For a lousy thief, you sure act cocky. I mean Derin did tell me you would be a easy catch, because you were so money-driven but what is with this....." He spoke but couldn't complete his sentence as I landed a slap on his dumbass face.
What?!
He saw me as a prostitute?
Derin told him I was a.....
But before I could turn to walk away, he hit me back on the cheek.
"Bitch" He spoke before turning and walking inside.
The pain my face felt stopped me from moving an inch as I stood there wincing in disbelief.
What the fuck?
The stinging feeling in my cheek made me get another slap, from reality.
I couldn't believe Derinsola had urged his friend to come here and treat me like a whore.
I mean, we never got along or became friends but I had honestly seen him as a gentleman.
Not other lousy jerks.
But clearly, he was just another lousy human being.
He deserved to be heartbroken.
I hope he feels like that for the rest of his life.
I turned around and made my way out the compound, and hailed a taxi which took me straight back home.
My job was done, I get to keep the 5 million naira.
And I get to never see that idiots face again.
