Chapter 19🌻
Derinsola's POV
“Hmmm, how cute?” She asked, pressing the phone against her ear as she suddenly giggled.
If only this ride could be a bit more silent.
“Okay, we'll see. The last one was not a complete fail, someone just had to ruin the whole thing” She spoke as she shot me a quick stare before looking out the window once again.
I'm guessing I was the someone.
And she was talking about her date with Peter.
“Okay, fine. Last time. But this time anywhere else but....” She trailed off before looking at me and clasping her hand around her mouth and continuing in a hushed tone.
“... my bad luck spot.”She said audible enough for me to ear as I frowned at the unending length of this conversation.
As soon as we pulled into the estate, I pulled the phone out of her hand and hung up immediately.
“What the hell was that for?” She asked reaching to grab it but gave up as soon as I hid it behind me.
First, I was really irritated by the noise.
Also, why the hell was she going on so much dates?
Not that I cared but what if my parents bumped into her or something.
Or worse, Deborah.
“We are almost here.”I told her as she suddenly became aware of her environment.
I noticed how she felt mesmerised by the view but I refused to say anything about it.
Right now, I was too worried about how she was gonna behave in front of Deborah.
The last time, we weren't so convincing, so we needed to step up our game.
“Ohh, okay. Hand me my phone back.”She spoke as I saw a few strands of hair escape the band as they hung loosely in front of her face.
We needed to make this feel real.
I stretched my hands towards her face, attempting to tuck them being her ears but before I got a chance to touch her face, she slapped my hands away.
Owwww!
“What are you doing?” She asked with a glare as I sighed in frustration.
This is definitely not going to work.
“You need to let loose if we want to do a good job, pretending to be dating” I told her as she snorted.
“First, we aren't even there and if you should be worried about anything, worry about yourself.” She said as I stared at her blankly, not wanting to listen to her rants.
“Try not to mess this up by drooling over Deborah again” She told me.
Believe me, I wasn't planning on doing that.
“Why is she even coming for this dinner? Her stupid face repulses me” She asked as I was suddenly reminded of the fact that she hated Deborah.
I wonder what was her reason behind her despise for Debbie.
That wasn't the point right now.
We had to make this work.
I stayed in silence as I hand her phone over to her.
She pulled it out of my hands as she glared at me before dusting the phone off.
“Oh, and... Don't dare try what you did that day. I was just taken aback then. If you try it again, I'll slap you right there and then” She said with a sickly sweet smile before tutting and looking back at her phone.
She was just too egotistic and annoying.
“Believe me, I didn't do it because I wanted to”I muttered staring into the air.
“So? I don't care if you wanted to or not. Just don't do it.”She spoke with a shrug as I rolled my eyes at how well absorbed she was.
She probably thinks every guy in the planet is interested in her.

Lola's POV
“I am so happy I get to see you again, Lola” Derinsola's mother told me as she engulfed me in a bone crushing hug.
I hugged her back, as her hug have me a familiar warmth.
Like my mother's hug!!
She pulled away, smiling at me and entangling both her arms around Derinsola and I while she led us into his house.
I wonder why he came to pick me up if he was gonna be home in the first place.
When we got into the huge and beautiful house, I expected to see Deborah and her husband but apparently she hadn't arrived yet.
I took in the beautiful view as I tried as much as possible to act like I was unfamiliar with his house.
I mean, If I was really his girlfriend, I should have been to his house at least once.
The house was huge and I couldn't help but feel small in the midst of these expensive furnitures and decoratings.
It's walls were painted mostly white and all furnitures were in gray.
Hmmm, a mature design if you ask me.
“You both should sit, I need to finish something in the kitchen”She spoke as she signalled us to sit while she headed back to the kitchen.
She looked exhausted.
“I'll come help out.”I told her as I stood up following her as she paused shaking her head with a dismissive smile.
“No, it's okay. I'm almost done anyways”She told me as I shook my head.
“I insist”I told her with a smile as her smile grew wider while we both walked into the kitchen.
Before I entered the kitchen, I looked back towards Derinsola who eyed me suspiciously as I shot him my infamous glare.
Did he think I couldn't cook?
Idiot!!!
I walked into the kitchen which was 12 times larger than mine and I couldn't help but feel embarrassed at the fact I had let Derinsola into mine some few days back.
I wonder what he thought about it.
“I had told the cook to take a day off. I wanted to prepare the dishes for today, myself”She told me as I nodded with a small smile as I noticed a half chopped onions lying on the chopping board and I decided to wash my hands and continue from where she had stopped.
“If you don't mind, Lola dear, can I ask where you are from?”She asked as I nodded again with a smile.
She was way too courteous.
I had always pictured rich mothers to have their noses stuck way up and rudely question any girl their sons brought home.
“Ekiti state, ma”I told her as she gasped before placing her hands on my back.
“Wow!!! I am from Ekiti too.”She told me as I smiled saying ‘Woww’.
I didn't know what to say actually.
“I actually thought you weren't from Nigeria. You have spectacle hair”She told me as I widened my eyes in realisation.
Ohhh! That was what she meant.
“Ohh,my Dad is from Ekiti but my mum is an Indian”I told her respectfully as she smiled.
“Woww! That's lovely. How are your parents doing?”She asked as I felt a sting in my chest as my brain scrambled to get an answer.
What do I tell her?
“They are doing quite well. They don't live here in lagos”I lied through my teeth as she nodded opening up the pot which was still on fire.
“This is Derinsola's favourite food”She told me.
Of course, I pictured him to be the native food type of guy.
The sound of the door bell ring echoes through the air as Derinsola's mother excused herself and headed straight to the living room, to open up the door.
What a sweet woman.
I wonder where she got her son from.
After she left, I decided to take a peek at who had arrived.
Maybe we were actually more than Derinsola had told me.
I peeked through the kitchen entrance and I had a great view of the door.
Derinsola's mother welcomed in Deborah and her husband as they both greeted her.
But I wondered were Derin had gone.
Before I could scan the area for him, a figure abruptly blocked my view making me bring my hands up in shock.
My heart almost jumped out of my chest at the sudden presence as I looked at the face of the person.
“Of course, it had to be you”I spoke waving my hands about as I tried to regulate my breathing pace.
His expression looked tense as he stared at me while I looked at him in confusion.
He suddenly stretched his hands towards me as he grabbed my right hand by the wrist and pulled out the knife in my hands.
Ohhhhhh!
I had completely forgotten I was holding that.
“Ohh, sorry. Why were you sneaking around in the first place?”I asked him as he brushed past me walking into the kitchen.
“I was sneaking around? Says the one standing in the corner and peeping with a bloody knife in her hand”He told me as I rolled my eyes.
Him and being over dramatic.
Surprisingly, he walked over to the sink and washed his hands and rolling up his sleeves before picking up some other washed ingredients and chopping them.
I let out a laughter as I approached him.
“Just hand it over. You wouldn't want to cut your princely fingers”I told him mockingly as he ignored my comments, while I stood next to him and watched him do a great job.
Show off!
But I wondered why he was here, especially when Deborah had just arrived.
“Shouldn't you be in the living room telling Deborah things like ‘I'm glad I could see you, I wouldn't have missed this dinner for the world’”I said as I remembered the tacky line he told her at the wedding and suddenly felt like rubbing it in his face.
“You should try staying silent once in a while, it helps improve your thinking”He spoke with a straight face as I chuckled at his words.
He was just pained.
“Seriously, why aren't you drooling all over....”I started as he suddenly turned to me and shoved some sliced onions into my mouth.
What the hell!
“Doesn't it taste good, babe?”He asked me as I cringed my face in disgust.
Not at taste of the onions but at the word babe.
“I swearr I.....”I trailed off as I paused when I noticed the smiling figure if Derinsola's mother watching us.
....will kill you.
Was what I wanted to say but I ended up forcing up a smile and saying.
“love......”
“you?”
Shittt!!
I should have said ‘it’.
Lola, you dim wit.
Immediately I realised what had left my mouth, I felt my body turn limp in embarrassment.
I felt like I should just drop dead now.
I looked at Derinsola whose lips were tightened shot with an amused look on his face.
He looked like he was desperately trying to hold back a laughter.
I bit my lips as I tightened my eyes shot in embarrassment while I heard the slow footsteps of his mother approach us.
“I'll just let you guys be.”She spoke as she turned the gas off and walking out the kitchen while I slowly opened my eyes once I heard her footsteps fade away.
I looked towards Derinsola blankly before turning away.
He should better not say anything.
I heard small chuckled from him as I ignored them but anytime I thought of what I had said, I resisted the urge to slam my head into the wall.

“Oh, my gosh. Your girlfriend is hilarious”Deborah's husband remarked as a laughter escaped the lips of both him and his mother.
I just complimented their wedding and how it was different from the ones I had attended.
“Congratulations to you once again, Deborah. I couldn't believe it was you getting married when Derin told me about it. I mean, what a crazy coincidence”I spoke with a sickly sweet smile as she giggled with a glare on her face.
“I mean, who would have thought that Deborah who was famous for......”I started off as Deborah cut me off.
“Yeah, thanks” She told me as she suddenly stood up from her seat shooting me daggers.
“Excuse me, I need to use the restroom for a minute”She asked as Derinsola's mother nodded.
“Derin, can you show me where the restroom is?”She asked him as I shot my head towards her, eyeing her weirdly
Why would she ask Derin that?!
He was the owner of the house, duuhhh!
“It's just around the corner, it's the first...”He spoke as I looked at him in disbelief.
There was something going on, and I wasn't aware of it.
“Just show her the restroom”His mother told him as he nodded immediately got up, grudgingly.
Didn't he love her anymore?
He led her towards a corridor buy I couldn't help but wonder what was going on.
I have to find out.
It's not my business but it seems like something juicy.
