Chapter 29🌻

Lola's POV

Trying to push out whatever just happened out of my head, I approached the door and swung it open, entering into my house.

And I was greeted with the sight of Tunmise, who was once passed out, staring at me and sitting calmly, without causing a scene.

She was in my night dress and she seemed to look really sad.

“Well, look who's sober” I spoke as I walked into the house closing the door gently behind me.

“I'm really sorry I caused a scene. Today was a bit, well......not great” Tunmise spoke, resting her head on the chair, letting out a sigh.

Aweeee! I was right. Something was definitely wrong.

“Are you okay?!” I asked as she shook her head sadly.

“I saw Derin” She spoke, trying to change the topic as I shot her a confused look.

Was she awake all this while?!

“I actually just woke up. I saw him leaving. I didn't want to stop him, because maybe I would rather stay here” She spoke as I moved closer, taking a seat beside her.

“You know, I like how you look at each other” Tunmise spoke as I scrunched up my brow in confusion.

Who?!

“.... with so much love and passion. I wish I had someone like that for me” She spoke as I tried as hard as I could to hide the expression of disbelief I felt.

What?!

Was she talking about Derin and I?!

Love?!

That's crazy.

“Did something happen, Tunmise?!” I asked as Kosi walked in with a glass of water in her hands.

But she paused and stared at me, looking at me with a look of disgust.

Ode!!

She was acting up because of what almost happened outside.

Did it almost happen, or was it in my head?!

“Tunmise, what's up? It's been a while na” Kosi came in and plopped in the couch opposite us crossing her tanned tall legs in the process.

“I'm good, thanks.”Tunmise said with a sigh as she placed the back of her hands below her chin.

“Are you okay?” Kosi asked as she grabbed the TV remote beside the chair and fiddled with it.

“Nope” Tunmise answered letting out another sigh.

“It's just that, I met this guy that I really liked and all. And I have been trying hard for him to actually like me or even notice me but yesterday...” She trailed off, blinking back tears as I felt my mouth form into a sad smile.

Kosi's expression held pity as we both stayed still in our seats, not knowing how exactly to comfort her.

“..yesterday, he asked me to back off, and he called me desperate” She spoke as she choked on her tears, and Kosi stretched her hands out to her, trying to comfort her.

Oh my goshhh!!

What a jerk!!

I move closer towards her and stroke her back in a comforting manner.

“He's stupid, Tunmise. You shouldn't waste your tears on a man like that.”I spoke trying to comfort her.

“all men are stupid” I continued sounding feminist and forgetting the fact that I had been cozying up with one a few minutes ago.

Kosi looked at me blankly, not wanting to agree with me or tell me off.

Tunmise seemed to ignore my words as she cleaned her tears looking blankly at the ceiling.

“I've never been lucky with men” She thought aloud as my eyes softened even more.

Same here but she looked really miserable.

I didn't know what to say but words seemed to run from my mouth as I stared at Tunmise.

“It's okay, Tunmise” I told her as I wrapped my hands around her in a side hug.

“I swear, I'll do anything in my power to hook you up. Infact, you must get married before me” I told her as she snapped her head towards me weirdly.

“Better don't curse yourself. You that already have potential husband” She spoke as I laughed before shaking my head.

“No really! I will find you a nice guy. I've always wanted to play cupid” I told her as she looked away from me, towards the ceiling again.

“Okay” She said with a sigh as I looked at Kosi who gave me a sad shrug before looking back at Tunmise.

I will find her a nice guy.

Tunmise was one of the sweetest people I know. She deserves a nice man.

We sat in silent for a few seconds but the sound of my phone ring, snapped everyone out of their thoughts.

I looked at the phone and saw an unknown number as I stood up, staring at my phone screen trying to see if it was any I recognised.

I only new one number off head. It was Kosi's.

So who am I kidding trying to see if I knew who this was?

“Excuse me” I said out as I walked out the door, into the empty compound.

I didn't want to receive a call in front of Tunmise right now. And I didn't want to disturb my sister and mum sleeping inside.

I swiped the answer button as I held the phone to my ear, and waited for whoever called to speak first.

“Hey” I heard as a perplexed look formed on my face as I tried to detect who this voice belonged to.

“Uhrm, hello” I replied in an unsure tone as I waited for a response.

“Heyy, Lola. Its been a while. This is Peter, Kachi's friend” I heard as I widened my eyes in realisation.

Ohhhhhh!!

How did he get my number?

It must have been from Kachi.

But why was he calling at this time?

“Peter?! Oh my, it really has been a while.”I exclaimed in a cheery voice with a smile on my face.

I couldn't help but remember this guy and how he rambled about balls.

“Yeah, it has. How are you doing?” He asked.

“Good. How about you?” I asked as he seemed to let out a small chuckle before replying.

Was he laughing?

“I'm doing good too. I flew back into the country and somehow, you were the first person that crossed my mind” He spoke as I smiled.

Whines!

I laughed, not knowing what to say as he continued.

“I just had to call and say hey” He said as I nodded, forgetting it was a phone call.

“Awwwn, I am quite honoured to have crossed that busy mind of yours” I replied, rethinking my response after it left my mouth.

“The honour is all mine.”He responded before staying silent.

The few seconds was quite awkward because I didn't know what to actually say.

“Anywayssss, I was hoping you would be free tomorrow, so we could just grab lunch or dinner together” He started.

Ah-ah!!

I knew it!

He wouldn't just have called to say hey.

“Don't get me wrong, you seem like a fun person and my friends are quite busy tomorrow, which also happens to be my day off work” He spoke as I squinted my eyes, like I felt offended.

“So, I am a replacement, aye?” I asked jokingly with a smile playing on my lips.

“No... actually.... I did just want you to...” He stuttered incoherently as I stopped him.

“I'm just kidding, Peter. I have work tomorrow afternoon, so I'm not sure about lunch” I told him honestly.

“Ohhh!!” He spoke with a hint of disappointment in his voice.

But...

“But.... I can do dinner” I concluded.

“Really?! Great. I.. I will text you the address” He told me as I nodded like he could see me.

“Good then. I'll see you tomorrow” I told him pulling the phone off my ear and hanging up.

I dropped my arms to my side with my phone in my hand as I looked around trying to understand what just happened.

He wanted to hang out with her?

Was this just an hang out or another date?

Nope, definitely an dinner as friends.

I cannot go to dates not until I have sorted my head out with Derinsola first.

Peter was a nice and funny guy, there was nothing wrong in just chatting with him and stuffs.

I couldn't have said no.

“I made the right choice” I concluded as I took in a deep breath and turned around to walk inside but I paused just right at the door.

I looked back at the bench where Derin and I sat this afternoon and images of out almost kiss flooded my brain.

What the heck was that?!

And he definitely said he would talk to me later right.

Was this the start of something?

Was he going to call me?

Should I call him first?

No, i definitely shouldn't call him first.

I shook my thoughts off, as I took in a sigh before opening the door and walking into my house.

Derinsola's POV

“Dinner.”I heard as I furrowed my brows in confusion.

“I got dinner, bro. We are having dinner tomorrow” Peter told me, feeling over joyed as I watched him smile and twirl around in happiness.

What?!

She agreed?!

I felt a feeling of hurt sweep through me as I looked down at the screen of the phone in my hands.

I looked at how my hands overfed over the call button beside Lola's name and I bit my lip in rage before turning my phone off and placing it into the drawer below my table and slamming it shut.

“Is everything okay, dude?” Peter asked me as I looked towards him forcing up a small smile.

Why was I so mad she was going to be having dinner with Peter?

“Yeah, I'm just happy for you, bro.”I replied with clenched teeth as I balled my hand into a fist.

“Ohh, thanks bro. And thanks for helping me out with her number. It's all thanks to you” He spoke with a smile as I saw a look behind his smile that I couldn't recognise.

Yes! This was all my fucking fault.

I don't know whatever was happening between Lola and I but I wasn't ready to admit it to myself, or anyone.

So, I had to give him her number, or else I had to explain why I didn't give him.

And, I was confident Lola wasn't going to agree to dinner.

She was always working and deep down, I felt what happened a few hours ago between us had an effect on her.

But I was clearly wrong.

I was the only one experiencing this burdensome feelings and constant thoughts about her.

I had gotten myself tangled in another one sided thing.

I looked back at Peter as he looked at his phone with a wide smile on his face and I couldn't help but feel terrible about keeping the fact that I wasn't actually cool with this idea from him.

He seemed so excited and right now, whatever happened today or whatever has been happening in my head for the past few month doesn't matter.

He seemed to really like her and my thoughts of her were just mere physical attractions.

She is really pretty and extremely sexy. I was bound to get attracted at some point. But it shouldn't go beyond that.

I was going to Abuja anyways. All these won't matter in a few days time.

I abruptly stood up, sending Peter's head snapping towards me.

“Where are you going?” He asked me as I grabbed my keys and jacket before heading towards the door.

“I'm a little tired. I would just call it a day.”I told him as he stood up also, trailing along with me.

“Really? You just said you couldn't sleep, dude.” Peter asked as I ignored him preparing to leave the office.

I still can't, bro.

There was only one way to get rid of these thoughts of a particular half-Indian woman.

I needed a drink.

And I knew where I would be spending the night.
