Lost

*Harry's POV*
I was frantic. I searched everywhere for her and then I searched again. I had lost the most precious thing Louis and Janna had. I was going to be fired, and even worse, they were going to hate me.

"Princess please, come back."I whispered sitting in the sand and letting the tearless sobs work me up until my throat felt tight. I could feel the ocean stirring around me and I knew I should calm down so I didn't cause major waves from my angry, desperate, unhappy mood, but I couldn't. I was too upset. I'd really messed up this time. I could feel the ocean swirling around me.

"Stop Harry."I whispered to myself."This isn't helping."I couldn't stop. Damn it all, what Mum said was right, I was just a servant, but Prince Louis was my best friend. I had just lost his daughter and I was going to find her, even if I died trying. However, I had to break the news first.

*Louis's POV*
I pulled a giddily giggling Janna into our room and twirled her around.

"So, my fair lady, did you enjoy your first ball?"I asked and she smiled.

"I did, it was fantastic."I was so absorbed by her that I didn't notice him at first. He had curled himself up so tightly that he blended in with the furniture.

"Lou."Said a small, whimpering voice from my left. I spun towards it to see Harry with his tail tucked up to his chest and his face buried in where his knees would be. He used to do this when he was a child. Usually when he did something wrong by me and was afraid of what my royal anger could do to him.

"Harry, what are you doing?"I asked and he shook his head.

"I'm so sorry, I lost her. I'm so sorry."

"You lost who? Harry, who did you lose?"I looked up at Janna who seemed to have already realized and understood what he was saying.

"Lou, where's Lydia?"She asked and Harry looked up from his tail.

"I'm so sorry."I could feel the royal anger Harry was so afraid of boiling up inside of me. I couldn't hold it back this time.

"You lost my daughter."I roared picking him up by the servant's shirt he wore and slamming him against the wall.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to! I'm sorry Louis! I didn't mean to!"He choked out through the tears grabbing frantically at my fists locked into the fabric of his shirt.

"That's supposed to make me feel better?"I asked."You didn't mean to."Janna put a hand on my shoulder.

"Louis, Louis stop."She said and I looked back at her for mere seconds, but it was enough to make me realize what I was doing. I looked back at Harry who I still had pressed against the wall. The fear and sadness in his eyes and etched into his face brought me back to reality of it.

"I'm so sorry."He whimpered squeezing his eyes shut as if waiting for me to do something. I placed him back on the chair and he curled up again.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to."He mumbled."I lost her."

"Harry, it's OK. I'm not really upset at you."I said."Now let's get you home."I called for Anne who came running for her baby.

"Oh, my poor baby."She said throwing her arms around him.

"Mummy."He whispered clinging to her.

"Now Harry, you're much too big for me to carry you. Swim along now."She gathered him up putting him on his fins and escorting him blubbering away from my room. I sighed and turned my attention to Janna who had sunken into herself. It was hard to believe that the person who was so happy 15 minutes before was now so sad. As much as I wanted to break down, to completely lose it in a mess of sorrow, I knew I couldn't. Janna needed a rock to lean on and if Janna needed a rock then a rock I would be.

*Janna's POV*
After crying on Louis's shoulder for nearly an hour, I was coaxed into a walk by an old servant who had been there for the Queen when the King died so suddenly. My child was not dead. I couldn't afford to think like that and I knew she was breathing. If she was dead I would know. I would be able to feel it.

"Now, now dear, I'm going t'tell you a little something about the Prince. He likes t'act like a pillar o'strength. You should'a seen the boy after his father, the King, died. He was always wearing this stony expression. I know he's no pillar o'strength because that Harry said so. He cried himself t'sleep most nights. However, he won't do anything of that sort around people. You're gonna have t'coax it out of 'im dear. He'll break under the pressure if you don't."She said in her thick accent I didn't quite recognize. Her head bobbed up and down agreeing with herself.

"I'll try."I whispered.

"That's a good lass."She turned me into our room then swam away. I found him sitting in a chair with his face in his hands. He looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. I had to get him talking. The servant had said I needed to coax him into letting out his emotions and coax I would.

"Louis, I need to talk to you about something."I said sniffing.

"What is it baby?"He asked looking up from his hands.

"If Lydia is really gone."

"Please don't talk like that."

"If she really is not coming back can we have more kids?"He stared at me.

"Of course, why would you ask?"

"Well, I always wanted more than Lydia and I couldn't see how everything would work since you're a merman now."He glanced down at his tail.

"Oh, believe me, it all works fine. How did you think we maintained population? We have to reproduce somehow."I laughed slightly sniffing again as the tears welled up at the thought of more kids. My baby was gone and my heart ached.

"Lou, can you hold me, please."I said as my voice began to shake. He scooped me up into his arms and placed me on the bed. I watched him swim in beside me and pull my head into his chest. I wrapped my arms around his waist and sniffed.

"Just promise me Louis that we'll have more no matter what happens here. Whether we find her, or not."I said.

"I promise love; we'll have as many more as you want."He said pressed his lips against my hair. I let out a sob as I cried without tears. I knew that Louis was trying to be strong in public for his people, the servants and his sisters, but as we lay together late at night under the sea I felt his chest begin to heave with sobs. It wasn't just my baby girl that was missing; it was our baby girl. I heard him desperately trying to muffled the noise of his crying in my ear.

"Shh, Lou, you can't cry right now."He whispered to himself. I pulled my head out of his chest and look him straight in the eye.

"Yes, you can cry Louis. You're her father."He looked at me and I watched his lip quiver."Let it out."He buried his head in my shoulder and let out loud, body heaving sobs.

"I barely get to meet her and she's already taken from me."He wailed and I knew I needed to be strong now. He needed me. I pressed my lips against his neck gently playing with his hair.

"We'll get her back and if we don't then we'll make more. They'll never replace her, but they can help fill the gap. We'll make more babies Lou and she'll come back."He nodded breathing deeply.

"She'll come back and we'll have more."He whispered brushing his hand over my stomach."I just want to warn you that there's a high likely hood that you'll have twins or triplets at least once. Every royal so far has had at least one set of multiples."I smiled and rubbed between his shoulder blades.

"As long as I'm not lying any eggs I'm OK with that."His mouth twitched like he was going to smile, but he soon went back to his sadness. We cried together for our lost daughter not knowing if we'd ever get her back.
