Chapter Two

The smell of pancakes and the sound of someone moving wakes you from your sleep. Peeling your eyes open, you wonder where you are before remembering, this is your new flat and you live here now. Sitting up, your brother's jacket slides off your chest.
"Are you awake?" Jace shouts from the kitchen. You rub your eyes, still not fully aware of your surroundings.

"No," You mumble, stretching your arms and legs.
"Wow, you're sooo funny. Har har. I guess if you're still asleep, you can't eat breakfast." You peer over the back of the sofa to see your brother busily making pancakes. Remembering the last time you had one of his pancakes, the beautiful taste, perfection, it makes you drool slightly.

His must be the best in the world...

"No! I'm awake!" You reply, watching as he flips a pancake with ease. "Don't be mean!"

"I'm not going to let you now," He mocks while gives you a wicked grin and clasping the batter to his chest. You're still too sleepy to argue though, so you make your way over to him, hugging him from behind. "It's too late for your affection! I know the truth behind your dastardly lies!" You both laugh and he ends up nearly knocking you over backwards whilst trying to flip another pancake.
He pats the back of your hands that are wrapped firmly around his torso. "I'm kidding, of course."

"Fine. Where did you get the ingredients? And equipment?" You look around the room, all the boxes are still packed, excluding the one eloquently labelled, "Kitchen stuff". He gives you a knowing smile.

"I went exploring and found a shop that's quite close to here, it does all the essentials." Letting go of his waist you leave and go to look at yourself in the mirror behind the front door. Your eyes widen at the sight. Your (H/c) is poking out at different angles, a halo of fluff on top, (E/c) eyes blink at you and are still a little red from all the rubbing and your face has indents from the fabric on the sofa. Your clothes are the same as yesterday's, and honestly, you don't smell too great. You wince at the image and trudge back to the kitchen where your brother is about to dish-up the first pancake.
"Hey, genius."
"Yes, my adorable little sister?"
"Where are you going to put that?" You ask, gesturing to the pancake.

"What do you mean? On a plate then in my mouth?"
"Right. You do that then." Your brother looks at you, confused, then goes to put the pancake on the non-existent plate. Despite collecting the culinary for cooking, he hasn't unpacked any crockery.
"Oh. I see your point." He pauses, thinking about what to do. "I know! Let's just eat it off the table!" You shake your head in dismay. "It's fine, I'm sure we cleaned it before we left."

What would he do without you?

"You know I love you, but you can be such a child at times." You say, laughing, as you rummage through the opened box, looking for plates. Finally, you pull out two (F/c) plates and two sets of cutlery. "Did you get any Nutella?" You ask while laying the table, poking him in the side as you walk past. Your brother flips a pancake onto a plate and continues to cook the next one.

"As if I would forget Nutella." Both laugh, his deeper and more numbly than your own, but still similar enough to yours. You can't help but love your brother when he's like this. He seems really happy, which in turn makes you happy. Pulling two glasses from the box you walk over to the sink. Pulling on one of the taps, you hold your fingers under the stream until it starts to warm up.

"Left tap, is the hot tap." You announce while turning it off and running the cold tap. You return to the table to find your brother dishing up the second pancake. You sit down placing the water down carefully too. Jace puts the pan back on top of the hob and sits down on the opposite side.

You pick up the heavy jar and peel off the foil carefully, slowly. Just as you're about to scoop some up, Jace leans forward and snatches the container way from you. You let out a whimper of sadness.
"B-But it was mine..."  Realising that the sad-technique was failing and not going to get you back the Nutella, you decide to go with the death-technique.
"Aww, whatsa matta, ickle bickle (F/n)?" He says, smirking and holding the jar out of your reach.
"Jonathon." You say his first name in full, showing him you mean business and this is a serious matter. "Give it back. Now."

"No."
"Now."
"No."

"It's not funny, give it to me... Please?"
"Oh, OK. Sure..." He holds out the jar and you raise your hand to take it from him, a smile forming on your face, when he suddenly pulls it back towards him. "Just kidding!"
"No! Give me the Nutella!" You yell, scowling. This isn't funny anymore and you're getting increasingly frustrated.

You both say nothing and looking into each other's eyes. Neither daring to look away, both analysing the other's every move.
You will win.

You shake your head slowly as he moves his free hand down, running it over the table before picking up a knife. With a wicked grin, he slowly lowers it towards the smooth, impecable surface of the spread.
"Jonathon Christopher (L/n). Don't you dare to even think about breaking the surface of-" You let out a shriek of pain as he plunges the knife into the spread. "Nooooooo! How could you?! It was so perfect and flat! LOOK AT WHAT YOU'VE DONE!" He contemplates about what you've said, exaggerating a mime of thinking hard for a few seconds before shrugging it off.

"Nah, I'm good." He jiggles the knife about, disrupting the smoothness even more. You pretend to cry and he does a fake evil laugh.

"Mwahahaha! Behold! I am Unsatisfacto! I destroy everything you find satisfactory! Hide your children! Lock up your-"
"Dude, really?"
"What?"

"Unsatisfacto? That's the best you can come up with?" Another nonchalant shrug.
"I thought it was cool." He spreads some Nutella onto his now cold pancake in a thick stripe and hands you the jar.

I hope our new life here works out.

You watch your brother guzzle his food with little regard for manners and no signs of regret.
What an evil monster. So cruel.

You wouldn't have it any other way.
