Chanyeol waited at his bus stop, staring at the snow on the ground beneath his feet. Although the weather was getting a little better, it was still sort of cold. He accidentally missed the bus before, and it would've been awkward walking back inside of the gym when Baekhyun was still there. He popped a candy into his mouth and revelled in the sweet strawberry taste, breathing out in delight.
Chanyeol took off his backpack, opening one of the small pockets.
"Here, take this... I know she's gone now, but before, Yoora told me to buy it for you," his mom said as she held out a little wooden box.
At the mention of his sister's name, he felt the pain tenfold and he kept quiet, taking the box from her hands.
He didn't know what to expect when he took the small lid off. Maybe a ring? Some type of jewelry?
He looked at the object inside for a maximum of five seconds before he burst out laughing, throwing his head back as he held the box in his hands tightly.
He remembered that day when Yoora went shopping with him around a week after they had watched Frozen, and when in the store, she had found Frozen earphones. They had a light blue chord and on one side, the earbud had Elsa's face while the other had an Anna one.
"Hey, wouldn't it be great if I got these for you?" She asked and Chanyeol tsked.
"I'm not that childish, get that for yourself," he suggested and she smacked his arm.
"Eyyy, how can you say that after crying at the scene when Anna was frozen?" She asked and Chanyeol felt his face heat up.
"Shut up! It was sad, okay?!" Chanyeol exclaimed and she burst out laughing, clapping her hands.
"That's only what a child would think," she stated, still slightly laughing.
Chanyeol frowned."Whatever, if you get those for me I'll just throw them away the next day. They're probably bad quality anyway."
Yoora rolled her eyes. "Fine, I won't get it for you if you're going to waste a great 50% off sale."
Chanyeol had smirked victoriously, happy that his sister wouldn't get him something so ugly.
Now, he was looking at that same exact pair of earphones, tucked nicely inside of the box.
He kept laughing to himself as his mother looked at him worriedly, wanting to wipe the tears off of his face.
"This noona," Chanyeol spoke after he slightly calmed down— at least, on the outside.
He looked at the earphones again and watched as a drop of water fell onto Anna's face, sniffling. "She's so stupid."
He spotted something taped onto the lid of the box and he pulled it off, unfolding the paper around 10 times. He read the first sentences and felt that everything just turned worse.
'Cry-baby.
You're crying right now, aren't you?
What did I say, you're so childish and immature, that's why I got you these anyways.
Don't worry, I put lots of love into the won I used to buy it.
Make sure not to lose them, because now you can look at their faces forever ;)
XOXO- Your beloved sister, Yoora'
Chanyeol searched the pocket and furrowed his eyebrows when he couldn't find them. He switched to the other side, checking if they were in there now.
When he couldn't find them, he bolted up from his spot and looked on the chair, not seeing anything.
He checked under the bench, pushing snow aside with his hands just in case they was somewhere there in the white fluff.
Again, he couldn't find them.
He stood up and grabbed his backpack, making his way back to the door he had exited around ten minutes ago.
He briefly wondered if Baekhyun stayed in the gym before pushing the thought away, pulling open the door.
He stepped inside, looking around the gym. "Sorry, I forgot my earphones," he said as the door shut behind him.
Once he finished his statement, he found Baekhyun sitting on the bench directly staring at him, his eyes slightly puffy and red.
In those moments, all thoughts about his earphones flew out of the window when he began wondering why there were trails of tears on Baekhyun's cheeks.
Chanyeol stood there like a deer caught in headlights, not able to take his eyes off of Baekhyun's face.
Baekhyun was just crying in the gym?
Alone?
Baekhyun opened and closed his mouth multiple times, not having any words to say.
Finally, he managed to mutter: "You're back..."
Chanyeol didn't quite catch his words and walked a little closer, listening more keenly.
"You're here," Baekhyun said as if he couldn't believe his own eyes.
"I..." Chanyeol trailed off, finding the right words. "Yeah, I'm here," he confirmed.
Baekhyun wiped at his tears with the sleeve of his sweater, smiling lightly at Chanyeol after.
"You said you forgot your earphones?" Baekhyun asked and Chanyeol remembered, nodding.
Baekhyun remembered seeing them and turned around, taking the earphones off of the ground from when Junmyeon had pushed them down there. Baekhyun looked at them for a second before slightly chuckling.
"Elsa and Anna, huh?" He asked and Chanyeol nodded, walking up to Baekhyun. He took the earphones out of Baekhyun's hands, his fingers brushing with Baekhyun's palm.
That small little connection sent a jolt through Chanyeol's body and his heart began pumping a little faster, his brain focusing on the smallest details of the person in front of him.
Like the way Baekhyun's hair was slightly messy, the way his eyes looked a little like a puppy's and the way his hands were put together after he gave Chanyeol his earphones; the way Baekhyun's lips had a small tilt to them, the way Baekhyun was sitting and the way his eyelashes looked shinier and darker than usual.
Even after all that's happened, Chanyeol still couldn't stop the beating of his heart whenever Baekhyun was around him.
Before his thoughts could overtake him and he ended up being drowned, he turned around and tried to quickly make his way out until he felt a slight tug on the back of his backpack.
Baekhyun had grabbed onto one of the strings and when Chanyeol had turned around, the smaller was looking at him with pleading eyes.
"Can you stay, for a little?" Baekhyun asked and Chanyeol was taken aback by that question.
Not less than a week ago, Baekhyun had told him to get away. Of course, in the game earlier Baekhyun had acted like he used to too... What's happening in Baekhyun's mind?
"I'm sorry it's just that I..." Baekhyun cast his eyes on the ground, his grip loosening on the string. "I don't want to be alone." He fully let go of it and pulled his hand back, waiting for some type of response.
Chanyeol didn't say anything, but instead just walked to the spot beside Baekhyun, sitting down.
"When is your bus coming?" Baekhyun asked and Chanyeol checked his watch.
"I missed my first one, and the second one is... Probably here right now," Chanyeol mentioned and Baekhyun let out a small gasp.
"Wait—oh, I'm sorry—go!" Baekhyun exclaimed and pushed Chanyeol slightly, in which Chanyeol just glared at Baekhyun.
"I won't," is all that Chanyeol said.
"Why? You're going to miss your bus and what if—"
"You were the one who told me to stay... And plus, I can't just leave you alone..." Chanyeol muttered the last part but Baekhyun caught it completely, a blush rushing to his face.
"Oh..." Baekhyun mumbled and they relapsed into a weird silence that was comfortable and uncomfortable all at the same time.
A few more minutes passed before Chanyeol spoke up again. "Your parents are supposed to come here in 5 minutes right?" He asked and Baekhyun grinned sheepishly.
"Actually, my parents kind of canceled that idea so now I have to take the bus home..."
"What?!" He exclaimed. "Why didn't we just go on the one a few minutes earlier?"
"Ummm... I didn't feel like it," Baekhyun lied through his teeth and laughed slightly when Chanyeol groaned.
Chanyeol pulled out his phone and there was that silence again, causing Baekhyun to squirm in his spot.
"If we walk a block from here there should be one coming in around 7 minutes," Chanyeol stated after he checked his phone. "Let's go." He stood up and didn't even check if Baekhyun was coming or not.
Just when he reached the door, he turned around and saw Baekhyun in the exact same spot.
"Baekhyun? Aren't you coming?" Chanyeol asked and was confused when Baekhyun held both of his arms out in front of him, his palms facing upwards.
"My legs are sleeping," he stated and Chanyeol lets out a little 'ohh'.
Chanyeol didn't quite know what he was doing, but he walked closer to Baekhyun, each step becoming heavier than the last. It was weird, it was just a walk across the gym, but when Baekhyun was on the other side it made everything inside his body tremble.
Just when he thought he'd shatter, he was finally in front of Baekhyun who was still holding out his hands.
Without thinking about it much, Chanyeol grabbed Baekhyun's hands lightly but firmly, pulling him up from the bench.
Baekhyun bumped into him, his face hitting Chanyeol's chest. Once he found his footing he looked up into Chanyeol's eyes with an expression he didn't recognize.
Something was tugging at Chanyeol, pulling him closer to Baekhyun. It was something, and Chanyeol didn't know what it was but it felt so familiar.
The taller gulped and turned his head away, not knowing what to do with the distance they were standing.
Although he tried to turn around and walk out the door, Baekhyun held the front of his shirt in a tight grasp.
"What if..." He began, wanting Chanyeol to look at him. "What if I took all my words back?" He asked and Chanyeol looked back at him with an unreadable expression. "What if I told you that I was lying?"
Chanyeol didn't say anything, keeping his words to himself. Of course, he was curious as to what Baekhyun was talking about, but he somehow knew that he shouldn't talk now.
Baekhyun's next words were shaky, and they had the same effect on Chanyeol's heart. "What if I told you that I was sorry?"
Again, Chanyeol didn't respond, trying to at least gather some of his thoughts before saying anything.
Baekhyun's grip on his shirt only tightened and the smaller leaned his head forwards, placing his forehead onto Chanyeol's chest.
Baekhyun's eyes glazed over with tears but he held it in. "I— "
"I can't do this right now," Chanyeol blurted out and Baekhyun looked up at Chanyeol in surprise that he talked. "I—I just can't."
He took Baekhyun's wrists in his hands and slowly pulled his hands away from his shirt.
He was still too emotionally unstable because of what happened with his sister, and he didn't think he could handle whatever Baekhyun was about to say.
"Ch—Chanyeol, can't we just talk?" Baekhyun asked and Chanyeol shook his head.
"I can't."
He turned around and basically ran out of the gym, leaving Baekhyun the trip on his own feet when he tried to chase Chanyeol.
Baekhyun sat on the ground, looking at the door in shock.
Their whole relationship was a push and pull game, and Baekhyun was beginning to wonder when the tug-o-war was going to end.
He bit his lip and rethought all of his choices.
Sehun was right. He was so right. Hours earlier, when Baekhyun had been slapped in the face, maybe that's when he realized how stupid and foolish he was.
Chanyeol gave him all he wanted, but he pushed it away like some toddler who didn't want their Cheerios. And now, Chanyeol didn't want Baekhyun, but that was okay. Because fate decided it and sent him back, and so Baekhyun would have to do it.
He couldn't just let Chanyeol go now—no, or else he'd never be able to do it.
He needed to do it now, at this exact moment.
"Stop sleeping," Baekhyun hissed to his feet and willed them to move, hitting them on the ground multiple times before standing up
He took a few experimental steps to see if he'd trip again but when he deemed his feet awake again, he took off, pushing the door open and greeting the cold wind.
He winced when the temperature bit his skin but he looked around for Chanyeol.
He spotted a figure running away and Baekhyun thanked the lords his ankle was sprained.
He began running with his short legs, snow entering his sneakers that he had yet to change out of. He was slowly catching up to Chanyeol, and that was only thanks to the injury the taller had (that was also caused by Baekhyun).
He didn't know when it happened but snow began falling down from the sky, landing onto Baekhyun's hair, shoulders, and backpack.
He was so close to Chanyeol, so, so close. "Channie!" Baekhyun called and Chanyeol's footsteps temporarily hesitated before he kept going.
Chanyeol turned around the block and that's when Baekhyun caught up, grabbing Chanyeol's backpack and causing him to stop quickly, almost falling backward onto his butt. He spun Chanyeol around, an angry look on his face.
"Baekhyun—"
"If we can't talk now, then we won't," Baekhyun replied and Chanyeol opened his mouth to speak before he was cut off. Baekhyun grabbed the front of Chanyeol's shirt and pulled him down. "We really won't," he stated less loudly, his breath ghosting Chanyeol's lips.
Baekhyun closed his eyes and leaned forward, waiting for the thing that would decide what was happening, what their feelings were and what their relationship was; once and for all.
