Chapter | 15

A/N: Dedicated to Kellzkat14. Thank her because I wouldn't have updated if it weren't for her.

"She calls me, I screen it, I'm only fuckin' if its convenient." I sang to my reflection as I smeared some highlight over my cheek. My eyes drifted to the clock on my vanity.

6:45 AM, it read. I stood up, gaze raking over my face to evaluate my makeup one last time. Thick winged liner and a burgundy eyeshadow made my eyes seem killer and my slightly overlined lips made me look pouty. I raised a dark brow, satisfied.

Being with Dorian always made me want to clean up and seem more mature. He would be in town only for two weeks and I liked looking good for him. And his wife as well when we all played together.

I was dressed nicely in thigh high, black suede boots and a grey dress that was low cut and had lacing over the chest. My hair looked longer and silkier than usual, as i'd taken care to straighten every lock.

I flicked off the lights and snagged my bag off the bed and headed downstairs to meet Oliver and his girlfriend in the car. She'd stayed the night, much to the dismay of my ears. She turned to music up loud. Something by Fetty Wap that my brother knew every word to. She pulled her phone out to record him singing and taking hits from his vape on Snapchat as I stared out the window.

In spite of the way he acted with me last time I saw him, I was curious as to what Tate was up to.

He's probably in Helena's bed, telling her how pretty she is when she sleeps, my mind told me.

I was definently jealous, and I could admit that. Despite telling myself I wouldn't mess with guys my age, Tate had me curious. He seemed just as fucked up as I was and it was hard to find someone like that. Though, he didn't seem to be coping as well as I was. Mentally. He consistently seemed out of it. Like he was merely going through the motions of life.

"You look pretty today, Poppy." My brother's girlfriend said.

Hearing my name made me jump and I caught her eyes in the rear view mirror. "Thanks." I couldn't remember her name. It didn't seem important. Oliver would replace her soon anyways. His typical relationship lasted about two or three months on average before he got bored. He always went all out though, flowers and dinner, random romantic gestures. He wanted things to work, but girls could never hold his interest. It was disappointing for the girls because they always seemed to fall so hard for him.

I could already tell this one was pretty much head over heels for him. The way she looked at him told me everything, but Olly seemed to be getting over her already. I'd seen him casually chatting up new girls at school. One of them being Helena and I hoped, for the life of me, that he would sweep her out from under Tate.

But Olly wouldn't mess with her knowing she was taken.

Nah, obviously that was my thing.

And any time I'd ever admitted to it, I'd gotten called out for being a 'hoe'. People could be awful and thinking about the comments made my fingers move to scratch at the scars on my thigh nonchalantly.

Oliver seemed to notice. He walked in on me once when I'd had a blade and was at a low point.

I try not to let the comments get to me, and it's why I don't eat in the cafeteria.

People would sneer nasty comments at me after my ex best Friend let it leak that I was with some older married man.

And it got to me, to the point that I'd hurt myself and feel worthless. I've matured since then, but there's no reason to bring myself down by going back.

I met Oliver's gaze as he shifted uncomfortably at a stop light. I turned my eyes towards the group of middle schoolers walking to school along the sidewalk, running a hand through my hair to distract myself.

When he finally pulled into the school parking lot 5 minutes later, he dropped me off up front and I thanked him and slid out of the car.

Immediately, a few girls looked me up and down as I closed the door behind me and stalked towards the main doors. I raised a brow at them, meeting their eyes as I walked past.

The school was warm when I got inside, heating my cold skin. I rubbed my hands together and headed to my locker.

I was surprised to see a tall, slim figure leaning against it.

Messy black hair. Black hoodie and jeans with rips at the knee. Both shoes.

Tate.

Our eyes met.

I held the gaze as I approached him. And I could tell it threw him off.

"Dawson." He said after I ignored his presence and went to unlock my locker.

"Moore." I answered, indifferent.

"You seem different today." He tilted his head at me, thick dark hair dropping across his forehead.

"I guess I'm just taking lessons from you." I said, coldly. Getting dicked down always made me more confident.

"Helena asked me to kiss her. Doesn't mean we're together." He didn't play dumb about why I was mad, which impressed me.

"Are you sure she feels the same?"   I asked.

"I told her I didn't feel anything. Not for her." His gaze drifted over me  in a way that made my cheeks hot.

"Do you feel anything for anyone?" I almost seemed to mumble.

"Well, yeah, Dawson. You."
