V: Solidify
2 Samuel 11:
In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war...But David remained in Jerusalem.
Enough said. The beginning and ending clauses to verse 1 say everything that needs to be said, about what follows in this chapter. About David not being prepared. About David letting his guard down. About David probably feeling entitled (to sin), because after all - He's the king. And as the phrase goes, "it's good to be the king."
Except for what follows, namely the consequences of sin. Tragic for David; tragic for us. There will always be consequences to our sin, even if we do not see them immediately.
Galatians 6:7
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.

Solidify
The shield is necessary, the shield belongs
to encase your tender heart made by God
If only you could see in the heat of battle
the damage to be wrought
Simply because you failed to deflect
the demonic onslaught
Your shield may be covered with layers of dust
but it still fits your heart like a glove
Ephesians 6:16
In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one
May you be strong in the heat of battle, the battle for your soul.
