Blazingkit POV

Blazingkit positioned herself into a hunting crouch. She tried to copy Blosspaw as the apprentice straightened and lowered her tail. Blazingkit's tail twitched excitedly.

" Stop moving your tail." Nightgaze inspected her crouch. " Tuck in your legs and get lower to the ground. "

Then I'll be the best!

Blazingkit obeyed and lowered herself remembering to tuck her legs in.

" Very good!" Nightgaze purred " Now watch. "

Instantly the warrior dropped into a perfect crouch, she made it across the clearing, silently.

Blazingkit gasped, wow I'm going to be just like that! Crouching she tried to copy Nightgaze. Instead she ended up dragging her feet, stumbling, and even tripping a few times going across the clearing.

Jaylight glanced over, her fur ruffled and eyes dark with worry.

" It's okay, everyone falls. " Blosspaw purred nudging Blazingkit up.

I'll just have to try again. I'll try for as long as it takes! At least I know the crouch... I just don't know how to stalk...

" I know... But I did good didn't I?"

" You sure did, for your first try." Blosspaw twitched her whiskers in amusement.

Dapplestream padded into the middle of the clearing " Bluewhisker! Take Wolfnose and Blosspaw on a patrol please. "

Bluewhisker nodded " Get over here."

Wolfnose followed with Blosspaw close behind. Blazingkit watched her go, and her tail dropped.

Aw, at least Nightgaze is here to help me.

Rosestar padded out of her den and up to Dapplestream, a serious look on her face.

Blazingkit pricked her ears and sneaked closer.

Warrior talk... Maybe it's a secret!

Rosestar lowered her head " We need to postpone Skykit's ceremony for a half moon. "

Why would she do that?

" Why?" Dapplestream frowned " Is he ill?"

That's weird... And Skykit is going to be sad.

" No.... I just wanted to inform you. " she whispered, turning she padded into Windgorse's den.

Why? Isn't it time for him? That's going to make him an apprentice the same time I am! I better keep practicing.

A Half-Moon Later

Blazingkit stalked across the clearing, her form was not very sloppy but nowhere near perfect. Windgorse watched the kit through slitted eyes, her fur was groomed and she was not as frail. Although she wasn't eating regularly, she was always watching Blazingkit now.

Blazingkit squirmed under the scorching gaze and tripped sever times. Tentatively she turned and padded toward the medicine cat," A-are you... Okay?" She whispered staring at Windgorse.

She keeps messing me up! She's always staring at me. Why won't she leave me alone?!?

Windgorse hissed " Stay away from me!" Her fur was bristling " Cursed creature!" She spat.

Jaylight rushed over " Leave my daughter alone!" She snarled defensively. Blazingkit wailed, scared.

She wants to hurt me! Everyone does.

Blazingkit cried " I-I'm sorry I.. Just wanted t-to h...help!"

" It's not your fault.." Jaylight responded and picked her up carrying her away swiftly.

That's right... Mommy would never hurt me.

" Windgorse! My den now. " Rosestar hissed from where she had been sitting across the clearing. She got up and padded into her den, not waiting for a reply.

Jaylight set Blazingkit Down, across the clearing. " It's okay, she can't hurt you. " her mother whispered licking Blazingkit fiercely.

But mom... She tried to. Everyone does. Except you. Thank you....

Blazingkit cried into her mother's fur, her small body shaking with fright until she fell asleep, cuddled by her mother.

Jaylight POV

Windgorse rushed out of camp. Jaylight watched, anger lighting her eyes.

I can't believe it! She's gone mad.

Jaylight turned back toward Blazingkit, she had fallen asleep. Jaylight curled around the kit to gather her thoughts.

Let's try to reason this out, Windgorse is stressed because of the prophecy. But she hasn't snapped at anyone but Blazingkit. So why DID she snap at Blazingkit? Does she...? Would she...? Does she really think that Blazingkit is part of the prophecy?!? She's a kit!........... Kits grow up. Like a burning flame in the night,  fire has the power to command and destroy us all. Burning flame... I can see where she got Blazing, but why must bad things always happen to my kit... She's been through so much. I don't know if she remembers any of it though.

Jaylight stopped thinking as Windgorse darted through the entrance, across the clearing, into Rosestar's den with a small black bundle in her jaws.

Why is she carrying that? What's the rush? Why is our medicine cat crazy, for Starclan's sake!

After a while Windgorse padded out and ate a mouse, she looked better but her gaze was always darting around, as if an attack could happen at any moment. Jaylight sighed. She picked up her kit and padded into the nursery.

I have you now... And I will never loose you again... I promise.

Crying, Jaylight fell asleep.
