This is my entry for Weekly Wattpad contest number 54

Allen wasn't sure when it first began. Maybe it was on the first day she moved into apartment building 205 a month ago or maybe it started even a little before that. All she knew for sure was that with each handwritten note, her heart became richer then gold.

She didn't have alot of confidence or motivation. Her laugh at a party would be the most controlled and forceful, and thats if she even bother to turn up. She was a struggling author and writer, that had been the basis for her move.

Get out of your parent's pocket, find a job, just till the books take off and work your ass off everyday and until you can call Stephen King friend and JK Rowling roommate.

Okay so calling JKR roommate is weird and less likely to happen then world war three but, a girl got to dream.

It was because of her stress, her anxiety and worries that the notes meant so much. She gotten her one of her first ones on a pretty horrible day.

The publisher who had been interested in one of her book, dropped out of their deal and- earth apparently, because she couldn't find him anywhere.

Allen, of course, took this as an excuse to eat ice cream and watch Game of thrones into the late hours of the night which turned out to be one bad decision, given the fact that she had work early that very morning.

Thats when she opened her yellow creamery door to a pale pink piece of paper, there was a moment of indecision, wasn't this a scene in Annabelle?

She picked it up anyway. Because she hasn't had a possessed doll in her house since Chucky.

You've been trying too hard, thinking too much. Relax. Trust your instincts. Just be yourself.

Allen stared at the paper then frantically stepped out of her door and looked around the lovely creamy coloured hall. There a curvy staircase that narrowed and turned so she could never exactly see what was up there unless she actually walked up there. The stairs were coloured a playful peach and had a victorian white bannister.

Allen barely caught a small shadow before it ran further up the stairs and disappeared. She had only been on the fourth floor of her apartment building once or twice but she knew that Ms. Rodriguez live there.

But,

Why was an old lady doing leaving her notes?

~2~

It was eleven pm late one night when Allen returned home. Turns out Sandy, the only other waitress at Wendy's Cakes, was home sick and she had to cover her shifts.

The moment she stepped out of the elevator she saw the note at her doorstep.

You resolve to continue pushing yourself. Perhaps there's more to you than you thought.

Allen the read massage quietly then reread it later that night while eatting her dinner of cold pizza.

Was it some sort of quotes she was getting? Or was the writer writing it themselves?

Either way that night her heart never stopped flattering.

It would be two weeks later that Allen would get her first real lead on who the mystery writer was.
She wasn't trying too hard to figure it out, the mystery was doing wonders for her novels, but still, she wanted to know who cared enough to pay attention to her.

So she woke up two hours earlier then normal on her day off, the day she'd usually spend on writing, and bought out a comfortable flip out chair and waited. City Of Ashes stayed in her arms until she heard the tell tale sign of shuffling and footsteps outside her door.

Allen carefully set down the book and stood up.The flip out chair gave a speech and thats when she knew it was time to act.

Dashing at the door and throwing it opened she was surprised to see a small boy with fuzzy dark hair and a look of shocked excitement on his face.

"So your my mysterious note giver hu
Hmm?"

The boy gulped before taking off in a sprint upstairs. Leaving Allen standing in her door with a piece of maroon paper at her feet.

Its the most amazing thing. Yesterday it was hard, today it is easy. Just good night sleep, and yesterday mysteries are today's mysteries.

Allen couldn't help but roll her eyes at this. Today was Not easy and somehow she knew that yesterday's and today's mystery would be tomorrow's as well.

~4~

Allen stopped trying to catch the boy when he delivered the notes. She was sure by now thats all he did, Deliver, he was not her mysterious writer just a boy who bought her her notes.

She had tried to ask him about it once more when she had once again caught him off guard.

"So, Who are you? Why are you giving me these notes?"

Allen tried using the same voice she used on her two year old niece. The boy gave her an annoyed look before handing her the note and running back up the stairs.

You realize that you are catching on to the secret of success. It's just a matter of concentration.

It was a few moments before she called after him, "Thats not an answer, and I'm concentrating plenty mister!"

Allen could of course just follow him upstairs and get her answers.

But,

Where was the fun in that?

~5~

Today you wake up, full of energy and ideas, and you know, somehow, that overnight everything has changed. What a difference a day makes.

That note was ringing true to Allen's ears that morning when she opened her door and saw the lovely green paper on the foot of her doorway.

Today the mystery ended, today she would meet her mysterious writer.

After getting dressed then looking in the mirror and getting redressed, Allen stepped out in to the hallway with a fresh determination.

She walked up the stairs slowly, almost as if she was hoping she'd back out of it. What if she met this writer and the mystery ended and she realized he or she, she had to remind herself, was some sort of crazy stalker? What if the kid really was the one writing the notes? Who on earth was he? The apartment above her belonged to Ms Rodriguez so where was he going everyday?

Curiosity burned her with each step and every move of her body until she reached the flat hard wood door.

Her hand rised and aimed to knock but her mind froze. Did she even want this mystery to end? This was the most exciting thing that happened to her till she started playing World of Warcraft.

A deep inhale.

Allen knocked once, twice, then a third time because she had watched Charmed growing up and believed things should always be done in thrice.

The door opened and a young man appeared. His hair dark and fuzzy like the boy and his eyes clouded with amazement and anxiety.

He was tall but rounded and with a kind face that would make Neville Longbottom proud.

Allen words choked up in her throat, her face slowly becoming red and her eyes wide.

"Um, uh do you-" Gosh get it together Allen, She reprimanded herself, Hinata could do better then your doing at the moment. "Do you know if a young boy lives here? I'm looking for him." She swallowed back all the other questions that filled her head. This man may not even be her mysterious note writer.

He stood, just staring at her in wonder before seeming to think he looked like a creep and coughed into his hand. "Um, my little brother lives with me here."

Something inside her clicked.

"It could be that your looking for him."

Allen nodded then sighed," I'm not really looking for him."

"Your not?"

"No, I'm looking for the person whos been leaving me such- such incredible notes."

"I'm sorry to say i didn't come up with them at all."

The man looked as surprised as her when he said the words. Allen couldn't speak, she was actually meeting him.

"They're, they're from a game i play called Elder Scrolls, i just, I saw you when you first moved in but-well i was too nervous to talk to you and the game just came out then- and well I got my little brother to drop off the notes, and now I feel like a complete idoit and your looking at me like I'm a crazy per-"

He never got to finish as Allen's lips crushed into his. The kiss was sudden and impulsive but most of all, felt right.

Then Allen realized what she had done.

"I- I I'm so sorry, i didn't-" Allen took a deep breath before running down down the stairs. She didn't get far as the man grabbed her hand and whipped her around.

"I'm sorry but its fine, you know how long I've thought of doing that? How much i wanted to just speak with you? How everyday I've seen you walking to your apartment and my heart raced and mind turned misty."

He stopped and let go of her as he slipped down the wall and sat on the cold floor. Allen stood indecisive before joining him.

He then reached into his pocket and pulled out one last note.

So that's how it works. You plod along, putting one foot before the other, look up and suddenly, there you are. Right where you wanted to be all along

Allen smiled, my name is Sam, was written on the bottom.

Okay i cannot stress enough that if you ever get mysteriously notes DO NOT kiss the guy. Its probably a creepy stalker and stranger danger is real people. But in this case Sam was just a shy guy who had a crush and used games to win a girl over.

Here an extra bit that didn't fit the ending.

Allen and Sam were standing up when they heard a voice;

"You guys together yet?" The boy with fuzzy hair looked relieved,"That means we can finally stop using the faulty fire escape to leave home, grandma gonna be so happy, her back was killing her over that!" The boy beamed before rushing back into the apartment crying happily, Allen and Sam exchanged looks before shaking their heads for different reasons.
