Chapter One

Duskhoney sighed, his black fur ruffled in frustration. Every cat on his hunting patrol had caught at least one piece of prey, but he had been unsuccessful.

Duskhoney had never been a great hunter, but he was always able to at least catch something. Now the patrol was ready to go back to camp.

A cat bumped their shoulder into his, and he turned and saw Jaysplash. "If you'd like, you can continue to hunt while the rest of the patrol goes to camp."

Duskhoney hung his head in embarrassment. "Yeah... You guys go, I'll keep hunting." He meowed, waving them off with his tail.

He watched the four cats walk away until he could no longer make them out through the trees, and then turned back to the clearing.

He crouched down and closed his eyes, focusing on his surroundings.

His ears twitched as he listened for any sign of prey, whether it was a squeak of a mouse or a scuffle of a vole.

His tail twirled up in excitement as he heard movement to his far right, and he opened his eyes. He saw nothing at first, but then squinted his eyes and saw the sparrow.

He stayed low in his crouch as he very slowly made his way to the bird, being sure not to step on a branch or leaf.

But when he was a tail-length away from the sparrow, it noticed him and was gone in a flurry of wings.

"Fox dung!" Duskhoney growled, kicking up dirt under his paws.

His mottled fur stuck up in frustration, and he stalked away to find a new hunting spot. Hopefully to have better luck.

Suddenly, he got a whiff of what smelled like fire. He scrambled to climb one of the taller trees, so he could see where it was.

He dug his claws into the soft bark, going as fast as he could but still being careful.

If the fire were anywhere near Orcaclan territory, he would need to report it to Flamestar immediately.

He reached one of the higher branches, one that would still support his lithe body, and he climbed onto it.

Up here, he could see a lot. It was one of his favourite things to do- climb the trees of Orcaclan.

He scanned the edges of the territory and saw nothing. He focused more on the distance, when he noticed the smoke coming from the Twoleg place.

Duskhoney sighed in relief. The fire wasn't close, it was all the way in Twoleg place!

It would never reach Orcaclan camp..
