"There's no signal." 

His words snap me out of my shock-induced stupor. I look up to find the terrified and grief-stricken faces of my friends. We look at each other for a few seconds, unsure of how to proceed, before Ash scoops me up in his arms and takes charge of the room. 

"Landon, get Keira and Alea into my room and make sure the locks are secured. Zion and I are going to check the cabin, then we're going to grab our stuff and get in the car." 

After making sure everyone knows what's happening, he looks down at me clinging to him tightly. He presses a gentle kiss into my hair and walks me into our room, setting me gently on the edge of the bed. 

"Alea, sweetheart, can you get our clothes packed? We're going to need everything to be ready when we get back. I promise you, we are coming back. Okay?" 

I nod my head and hug them both tightly. I watch them leave and lock the door behind them before I hurry to stuff our belongings in our bags. Keira curls up in the bed and cries silently while Landon checks the window. After completing our tasks, Landon searches for a makeshift weapon while I bury my grief enough to hold and comfort a distraught Keira.
I should've listened to my mother. While we wait for Ash and Zion to return, it starts pouring down rain. I tense up, realizing it's so loud it'll make it hard to hear as well as hard to see, which could either save us or kill us. 

"Please God, watch over us, put your hand over us and guard us. Protect us from evil, protect us from harm. Keep us safe and bring Aliza's murderer to justice. Please. I don't want to lose any more friends tonight. I can't. May your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. In Jesus' name, Amen."
