Chapter 5

The following two weeks were busy. Having organised an off-shoot server for the Althea server, Gina had relocated to Althea. It was the day she would start a new Baseline server, that would be the basis of the new server. She would keep the original Baseline running, but had written another specifically for the off-shoot server. Gina had discovered Corday was not going to work, but an updated Baseline would.

People were still wary of her. However, most of the Writing guild supported her. She had been given the resources required and made some modifications to the coding for Baseline. The modifications had taken all day, but allowed more paper to be added when required. This meant she could add more room when the server required. It also allowed for more people to monitor it.

The morning was quiet, though that changed the moment she turned on the modified Baseline server. As soon as it went live, Althea server connected. The transfer began. Both Nesco and Grenspot were watching paper screens while Gina controlled the the Baseline server.

Once the transfer started, Gina sat back and watched the server begin to change. Slowly the amount of room available does. Then it sped up and she was adding paper. Before long, Nesco had to get more paper and ink for the system.

During that brief time, Gina saw that she had more administration tools. The system had changed her permissions and given her more power. Grenspot noticed as well and began to explain the new functions. Nesco came back and discovered the new functions. He became extremely excited.

With in a few hours, the modified Baseline became a new server and the transfer finished.

"Althea is fixed!" Frem came in yelling.

"Of course it is. This is what happens when we give the server an off-shoot." Nesco replied, not the least bit surprised. "Frem, you should meet the newest Master of Writing, and overseer of the newest grand server, Gina. Gina is now the lead administrator of Baseline."

"What?!" Gina exclaimed. Frem stood there stunned.

"Well Gina, you know how Baseline works, and have proven you understand it all. So naturally, you are the best option. We will get staff to help you in the coming days."

Gina stood there not saying a word. Her amazement continued over the coming days, as she got a team together to run the server. The server was called Baseline. She then changed the name of her other server to Corday Baseline. Thus people could not confuse the two servers.

More people joined Corday Baseline, some to just see the work of art she had created, others to try to contact her, and others to use the functions of it. Everyone liked the server and its forums.

Baseline became a large server for mages and kept her very busy. Before long she had forgotten what it was like to live in Salar. Her friends from Salar came to visit though. She enjoyed this. Life began to get better, and her hobby was now her job she enjoyed.
