This Pride Month, we're putting the spotlight on KC_Han_writes! Her book, Call Me Vi, earned a spot on this month's Ambassadors' Pick List and was also selected as Book of the Month. It's the kind of story that made readers giggle, blush, and turned "I'll just read one chapter" into "Oops, I finished the whole book!"

1.) Please tell us about yourself and your story Call Me Vi.

I am primarily a romance writer. Call Me Vi was my first ONC story back in 2024 and my first sapphic story. I had started with a completely different idea and then Reagan and Violetta just naturally came to me when the prompts dropped for ONC.

2.) What made you start writing on Wattpad?

Like many, I got started writing fanfiction years ago. Wattpad was a platform I started using in 2015 and lost track of for several years. I write on there now to share with the friends I've made and because I love to write.

3.) What is your favourite scene from your story that you can share?

I have so many, but one of my favorites is the scene right after the "meet cute" where Reagan learns her room connects to Violetta's room. It shows the beginning of an icy dynamic that thaws as the girls get to know each other (and themselves) more.

4.) What are your favorite ways to signal a character's identity to the reader naturally, without relying on "coming out" scenes?

I'll often put in bits of backstory. In Call Me Vi, this comes in flashbacks or in slight comments made by some of the characters.

5.) Who is your inspiration on Raegan and Vi's personality?

There is a little of me in both mains.

6.) Please tell us about your other LGBTQ+ story/ies on Wattpad so that readers could find them.

At the moment, my only other story featuring LGBTQ+ characters is The Matchmaker's Magic Match.

7.) How do you balance the need to be funny with the need to be authentic and true to the story or character?

I go easy on the humor and focus more on the purpose and plot of the story.

8.)  What's your secret to writing sharp, witty banter between a queer couple without losing the emotional weight of their connection?

Typically, whatever feels natural as a slight jab at the other character that doesn't put them down but shows that they aren't going to take things lightly.

9.) What are your favorite types of characters to write?

I really like the grumpy x sunshine dynamic - both this story and The Matchmaker's Magic Match hold that vibe quite a bit.

10.) If your main characters walked into a Pride parade, what would their energy be? (Are they leading the march, holding the banners, or just there for the free merch?)

Vi and Reagan would both in their own way be there for the free merch. Depending at what point in their lives it was happening, Vi might be more likely to hold the banners.
