Chapter Two
Mystery Person P.O.V.
"Ya, she's a fighter alright," I say to my boss and rub my stomach.
"Doesn't surprise me." He says and looks at the girl in the cell. Then one of our fighters walks into the cell. What is he doing? He's going to mess things up. This isn't part of the plan.
Alaina's P.O.V.
I wake up, with my head spinning and a huge headache. I go to grab my head, but my hands are stuck. I immediately open my eyes and try to find someone or a way to get out. No one is here, but me and the chair and the only way in or out is through one door. What the heck is going on? I try to get the wristbands off my hands, but they go tighter. Just great.
Then someone comes in. He walks around me and nods his head. "What do you want?" I ask in my stern voice again.
"I want to know why a straight A student is looking into things she shouldn't be. So, tell me why a 16 year-old girl would be interested in the files you were looking at?" He asks and stands with his hands crossed over his chest as if it's going to intimidate me.
"I don't have to tell you anything." I spit out and try to find the end of the stinken wristband.
"Well, unless you can handle pain, you should tell us." He states and takes a threatening step forward.
"Threatening me won't help you, and who is us?" I question and try to keep him talking while I get the band off. It takes a while, but I finally get it off. They don't have my feet tied so when the person steps closer it should be easy to knock him out, hopefully. He takes another step forward. Now's my chance.
I stand up, grab my chair and whack him with it as hard as I could. He falls to the ground, but I don't know if he's knocked out and I'm not staying to find out. I run down a hallway, but then alarms go off. They're probably going into lockdown. "Great," I grumble sarcastically. I go around another corner to see the person that kidnapped me and someone else.
"Alaina we just want to talk, not to hurt you or your family." The older person says.
"Don't mess with my family." I say ready to fight.
"We won't, just hear us out, ok." The younger one says.
"Fine," I say only because I know I can't get out of here. There already in lockdown and they probably have a lot of people and I won't be able to fight them all off. I walk towards them and the older one goes to touch my shoulder but I say, "I'll talk to you, but don't you think about touching me." He removes his hand and starts to walk in front of me while the other one walks behind me. The older one opens a door and motions for me to go in. I obey and walk into a darker room with dark blue walls. The older one goes and sits behind what I'm assuming is his desk and I sit in front of it, while the younger one stands a few feet behind me. "Talk," I state and cross my arms over my chest.
"I know you want to find the people that killed your dad, but you-"
I interrupt him, "How do you know about that?" I'm up in my seat and attention fully on him.
"I watch the news and know you're his daughter, but you can't be looking around like that. You could get hurt or get your family hurt."
"I can defend myself, and I make sure nothing traces back to my family," I say angrily that he thinks I would endanger my family.
"For now, but say you do find them. There might be a ton of people. You can't, whether you think so or not, beat them all up." He says in a calm voice.
"Why do you care? What do you want?" I ask and look at the boy behind me, never be too careful.
"I know I can't stop you from looking for the people who killed your dad, but I want you to join our...group and in return, you can use our resources and when you find them we want to help you." He says still in a calm voice. I have to think about what he says, would they help. No can't depend on them, but I can use their resources without depending on them.
"Fine, but how can I keep it away from my grandparents?" They would never approve of something like this. Which I need to tell them where I am, I think to myself and make note of it.
"It's an extra class, and you go on field trips sometimes." He says like it's been done so many times before.
"Has this worked with anyone else?" I ask starting to get interested in what this place is and what the people do.
"Yes, we have three other students that go to your school and do this. One of them is behind you." The boy waves, but I don't return with a smile or wave back.
"K, when will I start?" I ask and turn back to the "boss".
"After you go through training, then you will start some missions so to say."
"What do you mean training?" I ask and he smiles at me.
"Taylor will show you where it is." He says and motiones for me to leave. I get up and start walking with Taylor.
"So, whats the "bosses" name?" I ask cooling down a little, but I have a nasty feeling in my stomach.
"Greg. He's a nice guy, but he doesn't take crap from people, except you. He's nicer around you for some reason and you've only been around for a couple hours." Taylor says and stops walking. "Here is where people train mostly. Some people go to gyms and things, but most stay here and train." I look over the railing. There are mats everywhere, punching bags, different weapons, and a huge obstacle course that looks fun to go through. Taylor starts walking down the stairs so I follow.
"So, who will I be training with?" I ask as we get off the stairs.
"Me." He says and smiles at me.
"Great." I mumble sarcastically. Then we go to the obstacle course.
"Here you go through all the obstacles as fast as you can. There are things you need swing over, jump over, go under or through. There are some parts where you might get stuck because you need to climb and use upper body strength, but just try and if you can't do it just skip it and use the stairs next to it." He says looking at the course.
"You don't think I can do it?" I challenge smiling. He doesn't know I've trained since I was a little girl.
"I didn't say that it's just most new people can't do it the first time." He says looking at me and defending himself. Right, I think to myself. I walk up to the first thing.
"You will be timed, as soon as you step over that line the timer starts." He says and nods his head for me to start. I start and run. First, there is something that I have to climb up, so I run and jump. I make it over. If it's going to be like this the whole time It;ll be easy to pass.
Once I get towards the end I see where you have to use the most upper body strength. Its monkey-bars but you have to stay at a 90-degree angle so you don't get burnt by the ground that's higher up to make you stay at a 90-degree angle. It's like the army crawl but higher and upside down and it uses more strength.
After I finally get through that then I have to swing through a ton of polls and walls. Once I finish I'm sweating, out of breath, and my stomach hurts. Just great. Taylor comes over looking very different, I don't know how to describe it. Not mad, but not happy.
"Your time is 24.56." He says and hands me a water. I nod and take a drink which helps my stomach a little. "So whats average for my age?" I question and try to think of what a good time would be.
He huffs and says "31 minutes and 4 seconds." I look at him with wide eyes. He just looks at me and waits for me to say something.
"I told you I could do it." He just nods his head. "What did you get on your first time?" I say and start walking around.
"26.54." He says and follows me.
"Ha, I beat you," I say and smile at myself.
"You've beat everyone that's done this." He says and makes me turn a different direction by grabbing my shoulders and turning them.
"Wow, wait did you have the record?" I ask and stop walking.
"Ya, I did." He says and sounds upset.
"Well you're still the best boy," I say and with a smirk. I walk a little faster to catch up to him.
He laughs a little. "I'm not mad at you, it's just if someone beats me I have to do Bryce's laundry."
"Ohh, and who's Bryce?" I ask as we go around another corner.
"He's the one that you whacked with a chair." He says and chuckles.
"Oh, well, he's a jerk," I say and fold my hands over my chest.
"Ya, I know. He's not a friend of mine either."
"Hey, do you guys have my bag?" I ask knowing I need to tell my grandparents that I'm at a friends house.
"Ya, it's in the room." He says and opens the door. It's a small room with a bunk bed. There are two dressers and a very small closet and one desk. The room is a faded blueish color and the carpet is all sorts of colors.
"Who do I share a room with." I ask because two bunk beds, dressers, and there is stuff on the top bunk and things on one of the dressers.
"Me, because Greg has us as partners." He says and goes on the top bunk.
"They allow boys and girls in the same room?" I ask shocked.
"Ya, they don't care and there's not that many girls here." He says. I just nod my head. "Your bathroom is on the right, mines on the left if you want to look at yours." He says and grabs his phone. Good separate bathrooms.
I grab my backpack and look around to see what I should bring next time. After I'm done with looking in the bathroom I go out and sit on the bottom bunk. I'm glad I get the bottom bunk especially because I don't feel good. I grab my phone and see I have a ton of messages from Trinity. She wanted to hang out tonight."Sorry, had some stuff to get through. Talk to you tomorrow." I send her a message and tell my grandma that I'm at a friends house.
After I fix my bed and go under the covers I close my eyes and go to sleep, but it's not for long. I wake up reliving when I saw my dad get murdered. I'm sweaty and breathing heavily the way I always do when I have that nightmare. Why do I always get that nightmare? I oftem wonder to myself, it couldn't be monsters, or spiders, no it has to be my dad's death.
I get out from my tangled covers put on my gym sweatpants, a sports bra, and grab my shirt just in case I get cold. I always have sweats in my backpack just in case I spill something on myself or if I just want to change. Once I find where the punching bags are I throw my shirt down and try to forget my nightmare.
Taylor's P.O.V.
I hear Alaina scream which wakes me up immediately, but I don't go down to wake her because I see her eyes open and I don't think she wants me to help her. She seems like an independent person. I quickly put my head back down so she doesn't know I'm awake and I wait to see what she does. She gets out from the bunk bed and changes. I close my eyes even though I can't see anything, it just feels wrong to look. Then I hear her close the door. I get off the bunk and follow her.
It takes her a little bit to find the workout room, but she goes for the punching bags. She looks very pale, but it's probably because of what she dreamed about. I watch her workout, she's actually good at fighting, a little off balance, but that could be because of how late it is. She can do damage though.
After about 30 minutes she takes a break, she's breathing heavily and looks drained. I walk a little closer and see she's still pale, maybe that's just her color, I think to myself, but it doesn't look right. She stands up again and starts punching at the bag. Her punches start to get sloppy and she takes a step back. She looks like she wants to do more, but she grabs her shirt and starts walking. Then her eyes close and she wobbles and I know she's about to fait. I run towards her as fast as I can.
