Chapter Three

After the crash, Gene and I found ourselves in the police station, where we were "interviewed" by two cops, who had asked us a bunch of questions about the crash, about the kids, and about the driver. I didn't think our replies would do much though, because the police officers with us were giving us a tired look.

It's not my fault that some guy had a joyride, then wrecked. It's just bad luck.

Yeah...

After being released from the room, we were told to go to school, and not discuss the matter with anyone.

That's it?! No "go home and rest?!" Man the police force here really sucks...

Leaving the station, we trudged onward to school, which actually wasn't that far from the station. As we walked, I noticed that Gene was acting weird. Reaching over, I put one hand on her shoulder, and spooked her, earning a loud yell, and a small, but hard fist across my jaw. Groaning softly from the blow, I brought her in close, hugging her. Gene struggled for a bit, before relaxing, sobbing. "It's fine Gene..." I murmured, stroking her hair. "It's done." "B-but..." Gene started, before I silenced her by covering her mouth. "You shouldn't speak. It's not good to talk about it." I quietly said, keeping her in the hug, before walking to school with her in my arms grasp.

In all fairness, I shouldn't have been even thinking about that moment, because something about it felt... off.. like someone had caused the car to lose control. Now, I'm all for the whole ghosts exist thing... but this... I seriously doubt Casper would have pulled something like this.

It had to be a coincidence... it just had to....

Right?

After arriving at school, which was Voorhesville High, I immediately felt the strange sensation of being watched. Turning around, I saw nothing unusual, but I could have sworn that someone was there.

Shaking my head, I walked inside, and headed to class.

I sat at the back of the room in my 3rd period math class, staring at the board as Ms.Owens worked out some kind of problem. Feeling my eyes droop shut, I blinked a couple of times, then felt them droop again. Yawning, and looking out the window, I nearly yelled out as I saw a little boy standing there.

Now, you're probably thinking, "Oh, it's a little boy, that's pretty stereotypical." Well screw you, this little boy was scary beyond all hell. His skin was dark grey, like he was out of a black and white photo, and his clothing suggested someone from the 1980s, the way his long sleeved shirt and black pants looked.

What? I watch old tv. Don't judge...

But the worst part... his eyes... his freaking eyes... there was nothing there, but black, scratched out circles.

Jesus Christ...

Shaking my head, I looked again, and saw that the boy was mouthing something. Frowning, I tried to turn my head, but my body just refused, making me watch the little boy.

Suddenly... I felt this urge... to climb out the window.. and go to him... I almost did too, had I not banged my knee on the desk, as  usual when I sit in math class, waking me up from my stupor. "Mr.Makiev." Ms.Owens said, making me look at her. "Do you have something?" Shaking my head and muttering a apology, I sat down.

What the hell was going on with me?
