Hielo looked around the room she had just entered. It was dimly lit, with hundreds of paths winding around corners. Every path must lead here, she realized. That way no one gets lost, and they have to face the challenge no matter what.

Hielo was in what Queen Diamond had called "The Diamond Trials". She said she had used her gift for a second time, but for vengeance. She had created a maze, and given each participant a diamond-tipped spear. There were only two participants, however. One was Hielo, the top of the seven Circles. She was doing this against Leopard, her best friend, who was in the bottom of the Circles. Queen Diamond had said that both dragons, whoever won, would both be alive, but she said it so maliciously that Hielo wasn't sure.

As Hielo looked around the room, she noticed a dragonoid figure. Is that Leopard? No, it's too big and hasn't moved. I wonder who it is? She walked closer, and realized it was a NightWing. Hielo jumped back and bared her teeth, ready to fight, but it didn't move. It just sat there, maybe sleeping. But sleeping dragons still breathe, and it's eyes were open. Hielo moved in for a closer look, and realized it was Foeslayer, the NightWing who had stolen Prince Arctic!

Foeslayer didn't seem able to move, however. She seemed like a thin layer of ice was encasing her, stopping her ability to move or even breathe! But she didn't seem dead...

Hielo looked at Foeslayer curiously, poking her with her spear.

The ice cracked, melting into her skin. Her features seemed sharper, and her scales more textured. Her eyes flashed open and narrowed. And Foeslayer awoke.
