Naruto never doubted that he would one day have a partner to spend his days with and wake up to. He always knew that he would find that special someone that would make his world stop. What Naruto didn't anticipate, however, was for his significant other to be a mermaid who hated the idea of sleeping with clothes.

Hinata put up with it at first since she knew Naruto's comfort levels but since they were just a bit under a week shy of dating for a month, she decided to take the first step into their physical relationship. It was last week, when she was able to spend the night at the dorm, when Naruto had already laid down and she decided to ask "would you be uncomfortable if I slept nude?"

The blond had blushed furiously and stammered out some excuses to which Hinata immediately respected. The next night, with a reddened face, he told her he wouldn't mind. How bad could it be? He'd already showered with her a few times.

So now here he was, waking up on the weekend and somehow ended up being the little spoon. He yawned and stretched back and let out a pleased sigh when he felt Hinata's frontside pressed against him.

The blond grabbed his phone from the bedside table and noticed it was just a little after 7am, much too early for a Saturday. He groaned when Hinata shuffled closer to him when the air conditioning kicked on.

Naruto turned and pulled Hinata close to him and the blanket over her. He loved her so much. Naruto had accepted that what he was feeling was definitely love and he got more excited about it everyday. Naruto was never one to think about his future too often but now that was all that he could think about. But more specifically, his future with Hinata.

It was just a couple weeks before December came which meant Naruto would not be able to see Hinata for at least a week because of his exams. Also they were going to have to have a plan ready for Hinata's birthday. Sasuke and Hinata had been discussing what they were going to do the day of her birthday. They couldn't do it before because in the event of anything violent happening, they would need both their full powers to fight.

But Naruto hated thinking about it because there was still a chance of him losing her. Naruto just wished that there was some way he could gain the ability to breath underwater so he could be with her. Sakura was also beginning to feel more and more anxiety at the thought of losing Sasuke after being with him for so long. However, she knew that it would be selfish and unfair to just send Hinata down to deal with both of their families when Sasuke was the one that brought on this entire mess.

Naruto's phone rang just as he was settling back into a nice sleep while holding Hinata close to him and he let out a frustrated groan as he turned to grab it. He peeked at the caller ID and groaned once more when he saw it was Sakura.

"Hello?" he mumbled into the receiver. He knew she was going to be hysterical since it was so early. "Sakura?"

"Hey," but it wasn't Sakura on the other line. "Could you and Hinata come over later today?"

Naruto pulled the phone away from his ear to double-check the contact and sure enough it was a picture of the green eyed girl in their high school uniforms with her hair stuck in a chain link fence. Naruto had convinced her to jump over with him but it had backfired horribly. You can also see Sasuke's hands untangling her hair from the fence while Naruto just laughed and snapped a photo. 

"Sasuke?" he mumbled into the receiver. "What's going on? Why are you calling from Sakura's phone?" Naruto asked.

By now, Hinata was waking up from being jostled and hearing the sound of Naruto's voice. Naruto noticed her blinking eyes and small grunts as she was waking up but just rubbed her back with the arm that was still around her.

"Sasuke, is everything alright?" he asked again when he noticed that the male still hadn't responded.

There was a sigh and then he could hear Sakura yelling. "Yeah, for right now everything is fine but I need for you two to come over later. You don't have classes today right?"

"No, it's the weekend." Although he was hoping to work on a few assignments but oh well. "We'll be over around lunch time, is that alright?"

"Yeah," Sasuke responded. "That's fine. Just... tell Hinata to not use magic at all today. At least not until you guys are here."

Naruto frowned. "What? Why not? She uses it to-"

"Please just trust me on this. No magic, even the smallest amount."

The blond looked down at Hinata once he heard Sasuke say those words. He sounded so tired and desperate and the day had only begun. This must be somewhat serious. Naruto sighed and tried not to get too stressed out and would just let himself worry when he saw the couple later.

"Alright," he said firmly. "We'll talk when we get there."

He hung up the phone and placed it back on the bedside table before turning his body completely back to Hinata. She was still blinking sleep away from her eyes and then stretched her arms to help wake up. But Naruto just pulled her to him and kissed the spot right under her chin.

"Go back to sleep," he mumbled. "It's still early. We can sleep for another hour or two before we have to get up."

Hinata sighed out a breath of relief and snuggled back under the blanket. "Naruto-kun?" she mumbled. Whenever she'd use honorifics his heart would stop in his chest. "Who was calling? Is everything okay?"

"Oh..!" he leaned up to look her in the eyes. "It was Sasuke, we need to go over to his and Sakura's place later today. He sounded really concerned on the phone."

The bluenette then opened her eyes completely and blinked at her boyfriend. "Concerned?" she asked. "What did he say?"

"He told me to tell you to not use your magic at all. Not even for anything small."

He watched her pale lilac eyes grow larger and she sat up. She muttered something in that weird clicky language she would use with Sasuke sometimes and then she covered her face with her hands. "Hina? What is it?" he sat up next to her.

"If he told me to not use magic then that must mean that someone is tracking me."

Naruto gulped. That sounded pretty scary. But as he told himself just minutes before; "Let's worry about this when we see Sasuke and Sakura later. I know it's probably something serious but for right now don't overthink." he pulled her gently by the shoulders to lie back down. She nodded and tried her best to relax into his embrace. "Why don't we sleep for another hour or so then shower? And we can head over there and grab some food on the way, yeah?"

"Yeah," she nodded then snuggled closer to him. Naruto once again blushed but still kept his calm. How he still had so much self control he didn't know. Especially since it had been weeks since their relationship began but he knew his self control was wearing thin. "Let us rest."

Naruto watched Hinata waddle around in her newest jacket. They had walked past a department store and this particular jacket caught her eye. It was white and puffy and full of a warm fleece lining on the inside. To put it simply, Naruto couldn't even wrap his arms around her when she wore it. But he settled on holding her hand while she puttered around in it, very proud to officially own something.

They reached the apartment and Hinata pressed the buzzer since Naruto was holding the bags of takeout he ordered for everyone. The couple was buzzed in immediately and they walked up. Once again, Hinata knocked on the door and was greeted with a stressed out Sasuke.

"You haven't used any magic, have you?" he asked without a beat to miss.

Hinata frowned. "No, Naruto said you instructed me not to."

Sasuke then sighed and moved aside to allow them into the apartment. Sakura was seated on the couch with her laptop on her lap and her reading glasses perched on her nose. Naruto set the food down on the coffee table and that's when Sakura looked up from her laptop. "Oh! Hey guys!" she put her laptop off to the side. "Oh, you brought lunch, thank you."

"Yeah, sure," Naruto said as he took off his coat. "So what's going on?" he asked after his coat was off. He turned around to help Hinata with the buttons and zipper on her puffy jacket. 

Hinata also had her attention turned to the couple who were now both seated on the sofa. Sasuke looked at Sakura and she just sighed and nodded to try and reassure her boyfriend. Naruto sat on the recliner and Hinata just sat on his lap instead of taking the empty seat next to Sasuke.

"Okay, so this morning, I went to the portal. Me and Sakura went on a jog and I just wanted to pass by it," he began. "I wasn't going to do anything but then... my phone fell. I used my magic to stop it before it hit the water but then I lost my balance and fell in the water with my phone. I fell while I was still using my magic."

Hinata stiffened once she heard that. Naruto noticed and looked from Sasuke to Hinata in confusion. He looked at the pinkette next to Sasuke and could see she was still a little confused.

"I got out of the water as fast as I could... I ran with Sakura and cloaked us before anything happened but then I looked back and," he took a breath and locked eyes with Hinata. "Neji had come through the portal and was already looking for me. Whether he came through the portal himself or someone sent him, they knew my magic signature."

"M-magic signature?" Naruto asked. "What's that?"

"It is the signature of the magic user. Most do not have one, at least not a recognizable one, but since Sasuke is powerful, and the fact that everyone has been looking for him, whoever was by the portal in the ocean could sense Sasuke's use of magic." Hinata explained, glancing down at Naruto. Sasuke nodded and leaned back into the couch before letting out a heavy sigh and running his hands down his face.

"In other words," Sasuke said. "There's a chance that Hinata is being tracked."

Naruto quirked his head to the side. "Then why did we come here? We're gonna lead them right to you! The both of-"

Sakura held her hand up, effectively cutting him off. "Sasuke put a barrier on the entire floor. No one could track them as long as they stay on the floor." she explained. Naruto let out a shaky sigh of relief once he heard that.

"Yeah, exactly that." Sasuke nodded. "They're most likely only tracking her since they have more information on her signature than mine. Plus mine has changed since the last time I actively used magic underwater."

Sakura began to unpack the food since she was a nervous eater. Naruto moved Hinata from his lap to the recliner where he sat and went to help Sakura.

"Well," Sakura began. "What's the difference in the your signatures?"

Hinata looked at Sasuke and then grabbed a box of noodles with a fork that Naruto handed her. She still had trouble with chopsticks so he always had cutlery on hand.

"As I said, each signature is unique to the user. But since our families are both  familiar with our use of magic, the only reason they are unable to track Sasuke is because of his time away and his age.

"When a merperson turns 21, their magical maturity, their signature changes. No one has information on Sasuke's but my father has mine. The Uchiha family is also familiar with mine." Hinata explained as best she could. Hopefully it wasn't confusing.

Sakura nodded and thought to ask more questions while they were on the topic.  While Sakura had been dating Sasuke for a number of years now, she still didn't know much about his mer life. He didn't really like talking about it. So she decided to take this opportunity to learn more about him.

"You both say you're both powerful, or gonna be," she referred to Hinata's powers or lack of them. "Who is like... the most powerful?"

"While we are both powerful, my powers won't cause harm to life on land while Sasuke's might. My mother lived on land for a short while and was able to use her powers with no repercussions." Hinata stated.

"Yeah," Sasuke continued. "My family, ancestors really, used their magic in harmful ways to humans and other land dwelling creatures when merpeople were considered to be the most powerful beings. Hinata's family used theirs to protect humans and now their magic is focused on defense and healing properties while mine is used for... not so nice things. But it hasn't been used that way in centuries and–"

"May I point out," Hinata interrupted. The other three in the room turned their heads to her. "That is the reason Sasuke will not make his eyes glow." And then she blinked and her eyes were glowing that adorable glow that Naruto loved.

Naruto gasped. "You could kill us all," he said in an obvious joking matter. "But why don't you just use it anyways? You won't know if it's actually dangerous until you try."

Sasuke grabbed a container of food and opened it while considering Naruto's words. "When we're completely in the clear, I'll try it."

"Deal." Naruto said as he motioned for Hinata to make room for him on the recliner.

Hinata scooted onto the arm of the recliner and made space for Naruto to sit back down on the recliner. Once he was seated with his food, Hinata slid back into his lap. Sakura slurped her noodles while Sasuke just rolled his eyes at Naruto's words.

"So there's not really a question of the most power because both of our families are two of the oldest families in the ocean," The Uchiha continued. "The main reason of Hinata's possibility of being stronger of the two of us is that with her family they usually get a unique power specific from person to person."

Hinata's eyes lit up once she remembered that which caused Naruto to smile once more. Sakura had never seen her eyes light up nor had Sasuke, at least not on land. The pinkette admired the feature and watched her turn to Naruto.

"Yes, that is correct!" she exclaimed. "My cousin Neji has increased strength and can close off the... um..."

"Magic points." Sasuke muttered.

"Yes, magic points anywhere in the mer body which means his opponent is unable to use magic until he reverses it. My father has the ability to locate anyone or thing as long as they are in the ocean. That's why I must check in so often because he is currently unable to locate me. That is also why Sasuke fled to land and not just a different part of the ocean."

Naruto and Sakura nodded at the new piece of information. "Is there any way of knowing what kind of power you might get?" Sakura asked.

Hinata shook her head and frowned a bit. "No one in my family had any knowledge of their unique ability beforehand. It is a bit upsetting but I am sure I will be content with my ability." She said, perking up a bit towards the end. There were many possibilities since only two of her family members had ever had repeated abilities. 

They decided to put a hold on their conversation as they ate. Naruto could tell that the couple hadn't even eaten breakfast with how preoccupied they've been with worrying. Sakura scarfed down her food while Sasuke hurridly slurped his noodles.

Naruto was pretty excited for Hinata to come into her powers but not so excited  for the day to come. They all needed to come up with a plan but in the end it was up to Hinata and Sasuke.

He wished he could breathe underwater.

however! i felt like it was necessary for u guys to have a lil🤏🏼 understanding of how the powers work.

MORE EXPLANATION (just without it being in conversation yk):

Sasuke's powers come from his eyes and are going to be similar to the powers of the mangekyo sharingan and rinnegan but not like completely. When his eyes glow naturally like Hinata's do when she's excited,  they're still normal black but w a dark glow, kinda like a black light lol. When his powers are in use, he will have the mangekyo sharingan only, not like half rinnegan.

Hinata's special ability won't be revealed yet! But when she does come into her powers her eyes will immediately become byakugan like when she is using them.

I had this ready to update last week but then my wifi crapped out bc Texas decided to play ping pong with the power grids and it destroyed the last half of the chapter which gave me so much stress 🙃

anywayzz watch miraculous ladybug since apparently it's a trend to watch it now even tho i was made of for liking it in 2016 🙄🤚🏼
