Blacksmith

Hi Tacos! I'm back!
My eyes fluttered open. I yawned and sat up. Everyone was already up and working. Who the heck let me sleep in?! I got out of bed and ran out into the Glade. I saw Newt working in the fields and ran to him.
"Morning Sleeping Beauty!" He smiled and leaned on his garden hoe. I couldn't help but giggle. "So it was you who let me sleep in!" I smiled. Newt shrugged.
"I'm responsible for showing you around today, so we better get moving." Newt set the hoe aside and walked off. I followed.
*Time Skip*
"And this is the Homestead, where we hold our meetings and decide punishments for the naughty shanks like you." Newt pointed to the hall and chuckled.
"Where's your blacksmith house?" I asked.
"We don't have one?" Newt looked at me.
"Well it might give you a better chance against those Griever things if you have a wider variety of sharper weapons." I pointed out. Newt pondered the thought.
"Well, I'll have to think about it." Newt finally said.
"I'll take it!" I said.
"Okay, I'm gonna talk it over with the other Keepers, see what they say." Newt started to walk off. "Wait! Why not just call a Gathering?"
Newt rolled his eyes, "if you want it that bloody badly then fine, I'll call a Gathering." I smiled, did a little giggle and clapped rapidly. "Don't do that again!" Newt laughed. I smiled and walked with Newt to the Homestead.
In a few moments, Newt had gathered everyone and chatter filled the room. Newt tried to shush them, and then Minho yelled, "SHUT YOUR HOLES!" Everyone fell silent. Newt nodded in thanks to Minho and began speaking.
"Things are changing. First we make it out of the Maze, then we find the Scorch. Next thing we know, we're attacked by W. I. C. K. E. D and we wake up here, with Teresa gone." Newt said. Thomas glanced at the floor at the girl's name. Another girl, the only other one, her name was Brenda, put a hand on his shoulder. What 's so special about Teresa?
"And now! We're faced with a new Maze, with more Grievers, some new creatures." Newt pointed to me, "And this shank! Decides we need a blacksmith to help with Grievers and whatever the bloody heck those things out there." The crowd murmured. I shrank in my seat as I felt their stares fall onto me. Thomas and Minho patted my shoulders while Newt glared at them in a protective manner.
"I say, what a bloody brilliant idea!" Newt finished, the serious expression still on his face. I sat up and smiled at him. If I was sure of anything, it was that I was meant to be a blacksmith.
"Bekah, from now until we all die, you will be a blacksmith." Newt cheered. The Gladers began chanting my name. Newt leaned back against the wall and smiled.
When I stepped outside I saw the Builders and their Keeper Brenda head over to a cleared out spot that we had picked for my Forge. "So, if I'm correct, swords and what not, require metals, like iron, steel and gold. Where are you gonna get those?" Newt asked.
"We can dig a mine, I can ask for some stuff to blow holes in the ground and then we can send in a few Gladers who aren't working into the mines, or I can go myself." I answered.
"That'll take a month or so, whenever the Box decides to come back up. It may not even come back up." Newt argued.
"You said the Box comes up once a week with supplies. I'll get them then. Besides, we still have to build the Forge." I bopped his nose. He raised his eyebrows and then frowned and rubbed his nose when I bopped him. I walked over to where my Forge would be.
I'm not going to take you through every detail but I'll just say, it has a doorway, and then a big wide window space for orders and stuff, on the wall opposite to the window are three cauldrons with lids, with three fireplaces underneath each for melting ores. There's an anvil and sharpening wheel in the center, kind of like an island in a kitchen, and on the left wall there's a big long table for piecing together weapons. There's storage cupboards for molds, handles, grips, arrow feathers, guards, caps, and stuff like that. The right wall has some shelves hanging above. Then down a short hall to the left, behind the cauldrons, is an ore storage room. Down the hall more is my bedroom which expands to the right. The whole place is made of cobblestone and wood. A small cobblestone chimney sticks out over the cauldrons. (The only reason I know what I need is because I've played a lot of Jacksmith on Cool Math Games.)
It took us a whole week to complete the Forge. When the box came up, I had received copper, iron, and some steel, and sticks of dynamite and picks. I smiled, and gathered up my gifts and headed to a spot next to my Forge. I placed some of the dynamite in a steep pit and Clint brought me a torch. I lit the sticks and scrambled out of the pit. I started to slip and Clint and Frypan reached down and hauled me out. I heard a loud BANG! I jumped and fell on top of someone. I heard cheering behind me and looked up at who I landed on.
Two familiar chocolate eyes stared back at me, and Newt smiled, his cheeks a faint pink.
"Well that went out with a bang!" He chuckled. I blushed a little and climbed off of him. "You alright there Greenie?" Frypan asked.
"I'm fine, thanks guys." I nodded. I ran inside my Forge and grabbed some bags and stuffed some dynamite, and a pick in them. I walked back out and threw them at a few Gladers, who included Aris, Brenda, and a few others, and they set out digging and blowing out a mine. "What if you can't find anything?" Newt asked.
"I'll find something." I said, keeping my eyes on the hole.
*Time Skip*
We did find something, and soon, I made mine carts and rails for the mine. My Forge was officially open, but I had no customers. I sat leaning against the sill at the order window, waiting. I sighed and turned back around.
"Well if you're closed I'll come back later." I heard behind me.
I smiled and my heart began to flutter. I turned around. "I can squeeze you in by next week." I joked.
Newt smiled and I invited him to come in. He sat down at one of the stools that were scattered around the work space. I closed the window and leaned against the shelf.
"It's a nice place here." He said looking around.
"I've got no one to serve though." I sighed.
"Why not make something for you?" He asked. I stopped. Make something for myself. For what? Getting out of here? How am I going to get past the- .Then I had an idea.
"Newt, you're a genius!" I cried. I grabbed a sheet of paper and a pencil and began to draw.
"Well, I'll come back later then..." Newt sighed. He sounded disappointed. I'll apologize later. I wanted to jot down my ideas while they were fresh.
An hour or so later I had finished my blueprint. I walked over to the Box, which was down in it's hole. "Hey Fry! Can you open this up?" I hollered. Frypan shrugged and helped me lift the Box cover. What greeted us was a black hole that dropped down for miles. "You sure you know what you're doing?" He asked me. I nodded and dropped the letter with the blueprint into the hole and watched as it fluttered down until the shadows swallowed it whole. I started to close the Box covers and I went to the Homestead.
*One week later*
I ran over to the box. It was my third week here in the Glade and I still had no customers. Newt stopped by when he wasn't working and we would chat, but he never asked for anything. Everyone was gathered around the Box. Newt and Thomas, were handing out items. "There's one left!" Thomas called. I pushed my way through, almost falling into the Box. Thomas was holding a black egg, much too big to have come from on of the chickens. "What the shuck is that?!" Minho asked.
"It's an egg, duh." Frypan rolled his eyes. "Give it to me and I'll fry it up."
"Wait, there's a note!" Thomas exclaimed. Then he looked up with a confused face. Newt took the egg from him and read who the note was to. "It's for the Greenie!" He said. The egg was passed to me as murmurs rippled through the air like waves on the water. When I received the egg I noticed it was warm and, scaly? I cradled the egg in one arm and carefully peeled off the note that was taped on. I opened it up and got ready to read it, when I noticed the other Gladers leaning in.
"I can't read it if you're all breathing on my neck!" I exclaimed, placing my hand on the back of my neck and rolling my shoulder. I cleared my throat and read the note.
Dear Rebekah: The people of W.I.C.K.E.D would have loved to provide you with your parts for your 'invention' but sadly we are not able to provide it. You'll have to find another way to escape the Maze.
From, Chancellor Paige; Head of W.I.C.K.E.D.
"Well that's bloody brilliant. What invention were they talking about?" Newt asked.
"It doesn't matter, and there's more." I said.
In shaky handwriting, there was another paragraph. It read:
Hey Gladers, I shouldn't be doing this, and I'll probably be dead within twenty four hours after you read this, but I managed to steal this from our laboratory, this was the most heavily guarded egg there, so use it well. I may not have been able to steal you parts for your dragon robot, but I was able to provide you with this.
The next lines shocked me.
Say hello the Nightfury, the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. You used to know that.
Good luck, A well wisher.
I looked at the egg. It grew a bit warmer in my hands. Nightfury. I suddenly remembered something. A large, black, menacing dragon zooming by in the night, blasting a watchtower to purple and orange flames. A mighty roar sounded, deep green eyes stared at me. Suddenly it changed, and I was in the air, riding the black creature, but it wasn't trying to throw me off, and there was someone else. Who? Then I returned to the present. I gasped and nearly dropped the egg.
"Rebekah! You alright? You just went white as a sheet." Newt said, he was in front of me, gripping one of my shoulders. He had a worried expression on his face, like a mother to their child. "Yeah, I just... spaced out." I said. Newt nodded but still had the worried look in his eyes. "What about the egg?" Minho spoke up.
The Gladers started to mutter and shout things. Newt gestured to the Homestead and soon we had another Gathering.
Everyone was still talking and chattering. Newt couldn't calm them down so I yelled, "SHUT IT!" Everyone stopped talking and sat down. "Thank you. Now, we all know that's a dragon egg. The thing is, what will we do with it?! Now before we go around for suggestions, I'll remind you that this is Rebekah's egg. It's her decision what we do with it." Newt said. Everyone started talking at once.
"HEY! WE AREN'T BLOODY GRIEVERS! SHUT YOUR BLOODY HOLES AND WAIT YOUR TURN!" Newt yelled.
"Why don't we fry the thing up? I could cook it!" Frypan spoke up.
I groaned and Newt interrupted, "Calm down now, we're just getting suggestions." The comment seemed more directed at me than Fry.
"Why not destroy it? It's a dragon egg, it hatches into one of those fire breathing monsters in the Maze. What makes you think it won't kill us?" Aris reasoned.
"Well, is that all of the suggestions? Okay then, all in favor of killing it?" Newt said. Some people raised their hands.
"All in favor of frying it for food?" Frypan raised his hand.
"Alright, Rebekah makes the final choice." Newt and everyone else turned to me. I stared at the egg in my hands. I had to kill it!
"You don't have to do any of the suggestions if you don't want to darling. Newt whispered in my ear. I liked it when he whispered in my ear, because it tickled. I smiled and looked back up at the crowd. "I'm going to keep it. Raise it, use it to get us out of here." I said. The crowd erupted into commotion. Newt wrapped his arm over my shoulder and cleared a path out of the Homestead. "Thank you Newt." I said, still clutching my egg.
"Here, let's go to your Forge, maybe it'll hatch if we heat it up." Newt wrapped his arm around my waist and we walked to my Forge.
OH MY GOD! THIS CHAPTER HATES ME! I was on writer's block and during the last few paragraphs, or where the egg showed up, my phone started messing up where it wanted to type like this, and when I fixed it, it would do it for ONE LETTER. Lol, anyway, we got a new kitten! His name is Knox, as in the Harry Potter spell.
