Chapter 1: Yearning

Anila opened her eyes...she studied the room around her. She was in her classroom still. She must've fallen alseep during class. She looked to her right and noticed Cari drawing in a seat to her right. She leaned over and whispered to her. "Cari? Do you know what class were in? I forgot." Cari jerked her head to her left, obviously Anila had caught her off guard. Cari leaned over to Anila and replied in a low, clear, almost soft whisper. "Oh, we're currently in Science. Did you fall asleep again?" Cari couldn't hold back the giggle that lead after her response. The teacher heard Cari and flew her head back towards the girls. They immediately acted like they were working. The teacher walked over in between the girls and questioned in a deep, raspy voice. "Girls? Do I need to move you?" Anila quickly jolted her head upward and gasped. Cari looked at Anila confused then she quickly look at the teacher in front of them. Anila quickly responded before this got awkward. "No, ma'am." Cari followed her to try and convince the teacher. "Yeah, sorry about that Mrs. Hall." The teacher who Cari proclaimed to be Mrs. Hall straightened her back and walked over to her desk and sat back down. "Good." She responded. Just then the bell rung and the students went piling out. Eager to leave school.

Anila was walking by Cari. They proceeded out the door and to their lockers. "So, Cari? What did you think of school today?" Cari flashed Anila that 'seriously' glare. She then sighed and replied. "What do you mean? I always like school." She faked a positive grin. And Anila raised an eyebrow at her. Cari was trying to flash a fake grin. She was running her hands through her short, curly, dark blue hair. Her blue eyes tried to fake positive emotions. "Your kidding with me, right?" Anila questioned her obvious fake lie. Anila's bright grey eyes were telling Cari not to lie a second time. Her long, stright, almost white, blonde hair flew sideways and covered half her face when she spoke. Cari's smile quickly deteriated and she grew a big frown on her face. Her blue eyes sunk with defeat, and her curly dark blue hair covered her face as she decended her head downward...looking at the smooth, white tile of the hallway. Anila smiled a warm, devious, smile. "Thought so."

Just then, they heard the stomping of sneakers in the hallway. They turned their heads to the direction the noise was coming from. They saw two boys approach them. They smiled. Knowing who they were. One of the boys had bright red, fiery hair with dark brown eyes. The other was a bit shorter and less intimidating. He had dark brown hair with bright green eyes. They continued walking until they were standing directly in front of the girls. Anila turned and smiled to them. Cari did the same. The redhead boy spoke up and broke the silence. "Hey Anila." Cari cleared her throat and shot him a death glare. "And Cari." He said annoyed. Cari smiled, for she was real happy with herself. Anila glared at Cari, then focused her attention to the boy with red, fiery hair. "Aiden? What brings you on girl territory?" She was obviously teasing him. Aiden responded with a smile. "So, this is your territory now? I don't think thats fair game to all the other boys being controlled by girls." Anila wanted to punch him.

Cari slapped Aiden in the arm. "Watch what will happen when I tell mom about this, Aiden!" Anila laughed quietly. I mean Cari and Aiden are siblings, it's only natural for them to fight and yell at each other. Aiden smiled a devious grin at Cari. "She won't know. Because you won't tell her anything." He took a second to breathe. "Besides, if you tell her I will tell her about our secret." Cari gasped. "I don't have one, dummy!" She returned the devious grin. He smiled. "Guess you won this round, little sis." She growled furiously. "Little?! I am two months older than you, Aiden!" He puffed out a steam of breath from his nose. "Same thing." He rolled his eyes. Cari smiled. Satisfied with herself for her sudden victory. Anila smiled sarcastically. "Are you two done yet? Your gonna make all the teachers mad. And I'm gonna pay for it sooner or later." She then laughed. Adam smiled. Anila blinked her eyes. Furious with them. She felt as if she had something stuck in them. She rubbed her eyes and then opened them and proceeded to blink rapidly. This is when Aiden decided he couldn't keep his mouth shut and spoke. "I just realized something about you, Anila." She stopped and stared at his face, curiously. "What?" He smiled and replied. "Your eyes. They are a very rare color; grey." She smiled and pointed to herself. "I'm special." They all shared a laugh. Then, grabbed their stuff and left the school.

After they left they ran into the forest, they were heading to their favorite spot in the forest. A clearing in the middle of the forest that they hung out in. Once they made it they put their stuff down. Anila stopped and looked toward her 3 friends. They all smiled and stared back. "Okay. So, I don't like doing this. But, I promise this will be one of the last times we are going to do this." She took a breath. "Because my mom is starting to get suspicious that we hang here more often after school." Cari gasped. Aiden shook his head. Adam just stood there in disbelief. "Why? This is so fun!" Cari smiled and choked out her last sentence of her statement.

Anila cleared her throat. Still dry from talking. "You guys can continue hanging out here. But my mom is telling me I can't anymore. So I have to make sure I get home before she does." She choked out her last word. Aiden spoke up with anger. "I'm going to continue hanging out here. Who's with me?" Adam nodded his head. "I am." Cari smiled at the boys. "Me too. I love it here. It's so much fun to hang out here." Anila smiled. "I'll try. Just don't be surprised if I get grounded. Okay?" They all laughed.

Just then, they heard the bushes and tree leaves moving. As if something was running through the woods. They ran and grabbed their bags. They all hid behind trees. Far from the moving trees and bushes. Anila looked around the tree. Poking her head out. Her almost white hair covered half her face. And her grey eyes were full of fear. Because when she looked over, she almost died of fear, if that was even possible.
