Chapter 3
Theme Song: "Above The Law" by Bad Meets Evil ft. Claret Jai

A battalion of G.U.N. soldiers started pouring out of the base and taking various positions, guns aimed down at Nathan. Five dark gray tanks followed after, with the middle one rolling further ahead before braking.
Several more soldiers gathered around its perimeter, as the top hatch opened up and another poked its head out with a megaphone. "You are outnumbered! By the order of the Commander, you either turn yourself in or we will open fire!"
"Identify yourselves!" Nathan declared, using his own government status as an advantage.
"We are the Guardian Units of Nation, a worldwide military and law enforcement organization. Identity yourself!"
"I am Agent Nathan Blackwood of the CIA!"
"There is of no such organization. Last chance, identify yourself!"
"No CIA?" Nathan thought. "By the looks of it, this world has managed to achieve stable global security with a single global police. Let our Earth try something like that!"
"You have ten seconds 'Agent!' Ten, nine-..."
Nathan ignored the countdown, burned his Blazers and proceeded forward nonchalantly.
The soldier stuttered halfway through with the unexpecting response, "F-FIRE!"
Bullets rained down like a hail storm towards Nathan. Nathan spun around and twirled his blades in various angles, smoothly cutting through every round shot his way. The center tank's long chamber pivoted slightly towards Nathan, and fired a fat missile at him. Keeping his rhythm, Nathan regrouped his blades together and sliced the missile right out of the air causing it to burst right in his face. Several men screamed out above the rest: "HOLD YOUR FIRE!"
A black cloud blossomed where Nathan once stood. When it cleared off after a moment, Nathan stood up, completely unscathed.
"That actually hurt." he said, patting off his arm.
"FIR-AWGH!"
Nathan quickdrew a just molded sniper rifle and fired right before the man made the order. Before the hectic gunfire restarted, Nathan heard the closer tank's next missile being loaded. With precise timing, Nathan popped his gun again into the tank's chamber and upon contact with the missile, the tank imploded in a flaming glory. One-by-one- and still going untouched, Nathan killed off each and every agent who dared pulled the trigger, painting the posts red with every shot. Nathan took advantage of his immunity to man-made fire and took cover behind the flaming tank. Morphing his sniper into two pistols, he corkscrewed into the air with a push of his wings, and when facing the four remaining tanks, he fired two incendiary shells from each gun, decimating all four before they could even take aim.
From a balcony of G.U.N.'s main building, a sniper took his shot on Nathan and managed to skin his cheekbone. Sealing the wound instantaneously, Nathan had to recreate his sniper rifle and took an unaimed shot towards the G.U.N. sniper.
It was another explosive round, and the sniper noticed how far off his shot was when the bullet exploded way above him. "Wow, that was awful!"
The agent took his aim again, but stopped when he noticed a sudden shade in his scope. He looked behind him and the satellite from the top of the base had crushed him and the rest of the balcony itself, defacing the building of it's insignia.
Before the satellite went down, Shadow was looking on at the onslaught from within the base; one man successfully fending off half of a military base- in less than ten minutes.
"He's a monster!" Rouge croaked, clearing her throat after a hard sip of her warm beverage.
"I was mistaken to call him human." added Shadow.
He then remembered what Nathan had said earlier on: "You don't even know half of it."
"Permission to obliterate?" Omega requested.
"This man, he's got a mad killer instinct."
"Almost like you, Shadow."
"You're one to talk, Omega."
"I accept the behaviors on which I was programmed to enact. As for you, you are just a spiteful fleshy being by choice."
"I'm going to pretend you didn't say that."
"The evidence is already recorded within my internal database."
"Hey! Last time I checked, we are Team Dark! Is there anything not clear about that?" Rouge intervened.
"Technically, something that is 'dark' would be considered unclear; obscure. So in metaphorical terms, 'Team Dark' could m-"
"You are unbelievable..." Rouge to Omega.
The room temporarily flashed with a blue light and Shadow was gone.
"My radars detect that Shadow is outside. I have also hypothesized that Shadow feels as if his reputation is being challenged."
Rouge let out a sigh, placing down her mug. "Boys will always be boys. Let's go help him out there!"
Nathan removed the spikes of his boot from the chest of the fallen agent below him and shoved another lifeless body away after pressing his face against a hunk of heated scrap metal. Nathan glanced around for his next target, but was surprised with a white-gloved fist to the face that knocked him several meters down the runway. Soldiers halted their fight, as they were now screaming: "Retreat!" "Evacuate!" "Team Dark is here!"
Nathan was slightly dazed by the hit and before he could refocus, what looked like a black ball rolled in and violently struck him at his side, launching him into the side of an inactive helicopter.
Nathan finally looked ahead of him and found Shadow the Hedgehog stopping at a distance.
"There aren't any Chaos Emeralds here." the latter said.
"And soon there won't be any when we're done here." Nathan snarled.
Nathan went to lunge at Shadow, when he summoned a green Chaos Emerald and commanded, "Chaos- Control!"
Suddenly, time slowed down. So slow, Nathan was barely moving through the air. Rouge and Omega had just rushed to the scene, unaffected by the Emerald.
"Omega, take him." said Shadow.
Omega stepped forward and replaced Shadow in his spot.
"Perhaps you should distance yourselves." he suggested.
Chaos Control had worn off and Nathan's momentum continued forward into Omega's larger, metallic bastion of a body. Nathan collapsed before the robot dumbfounded on how fast he appeared. Just then, Omega retracted his hands into his arm and out came a gatling gun in each arm. Those then protruded further out, giving space for a rocket launcher to appear above each. Then, from Omega's back, two laser guns were created and aimed for Nathan- and like an ever-expanding web, Omega produced more every possible weapon until he was twice his original width.
"Shit." Nathan muttered.
"TAKE COVER!" Shadow exclaimed.
Shadow and Rouge dove behind the closest objects they found and in seconds, the sound of explosions, coils, bullets, and lasers blasted the area. Shadow and Rouge covered their ears over the merciless assault, yet could still feel every rapid blow through vibrations on their chests. After several seconds, the barrage ceased as Omega's guns stopped coiling and his body began to reshift to his normal stature. Rouge and Shadow peeked out from their spots and were met with a dense black smog that disrupted their breathing. Two beaming red eyes shined through, followed by the stocky and roughly five-foot tall arsenal for a robot. Omega rushed to his suffocating teammates and carried them out of the base. When they were finally in the clear, Omega's rear thrusters shut off and he released them.
"I hope none of that was caught on tape, or people would think that was brute and unjust force." said Rouge.
"We have more than enough evidence for our behalf. Besides, it seemed like he could regener-..."
"Do not worry, the target was neutralized." Omega assured Shadow.
Suddenly, something boomed within the base and was followed by a sharp, bursting strike of something metallic.
Omega flinched from the shot, unable to react. "Warning: Scanners disrupted. Cover me!"
Shadow and Rouge slid in front of Omega while he corrected himself- and out from the smog stood Nathan; his body and face appearing to close up all of his open wounds. Finally,
Omega was functioning again and he rotated to his opposer approaching, "Error! Error! Target not neutralized! Target not neutralized!"
"Thanks Omega, I knew we kept you for a reason." retorted Shadow.
"I am sensing sarcasm from you, Shadow."
"That's a tough armor you got there, big guy!" grinned Nathan, reholstering his weapons.
Omega hesitated for a moment before responding.
"Hey, you OK?" Rouge whispered.
"Mercury weaponry. The user appears to have some form of control on how to mold his weapons...No magnetic fields detected...No form of neurotechnology detected. Conclusion: the use of magic may be involved. In addition, ammunition supply is not visible, therefore, it could be unlimited through- again- magic."
"We can take him, right?"
"Perhaps. His skill set is similar to that of Shadow's, making him a formidable rival for even Shadow alone."
"Who's side are you on?" Shadow commented.
"However, if we fight together, there is a higher probability of prevailing. I recommend a set plan of attack."
"OK then, get him in the air!" Rouge suggested.
Gatling guns formed on Omega's arms and he began to unload on Nathan. Nathan's wings flung out and he took to the air to evade the gunfire. Out of nowhere, Rouge dove in from above him and caught Nathan with a blunt kick to his spine. Omega ceased fire while Nathan fell, in which Shadow awaited below.
Shadow whipped out his Chaos Emerald again and began, "Chaos-"
But, while unable to work his wings, Nathan drew a pistol and shot the gem out of Shadow's hand, then crashed into the ground before him.
He heard Shadow chuckle, then mumble, "I don't need to hold it...Chaos-!"
Nathan acted on reflex and dug an angry fist into Shadow's gut, shutting him up.
"Homing missiles, locked on!" Omega reported, firing two chrome rockets at Nathan.
Nathan went to move, but recalled they would follow him anyway. Instead, Nate caught both missiles out of the air, snug under each arm. Nathan began sliding back as the missiles thrusters kept burning, but he then spike his boots into the dirt, keeping him still.
Nathan then slowly tilted his body until one missile's tip was aiming back at Omega, the latter beginning to panic in his deep monotonous voice, "ABORT MISSION. ABORT! ABORT!"
Nathan released the missile and was now able to use both hands to aim the other missile at Rouge in the air.
"Uh oh." she muttered.
Nathan pushed it in her direction, but acknowledged that Rouge was still a female. Following his oath, he shot the missile in the air so that only the blast radius was close enough to just scare her off. When the flames diminished, Rouge scoped the scene. She noticed Nathan was far one.
Omega was grounded, the lights in his eyes flickering, "Sensors damaged, mild internal damage...Objective failed."
Shadow let out a heavy cough before speaking again. "He took the Emerald..."
The others gathered in to confirm this, all disappointed that it was true.
"At least it was a fake one." Rouge added.
"Fake or not, he managed to take it. That could have been a real one...Well, I guess he'll find out sooner or later that I wasn't lying about any of them being here."
"Unable to locate Nathan; radar offline." reported Omega.
Already far off from the site, Nathan observed the little green Chaos Emerald in his hand, feeling its energy within. "This is an amazing piece of energy. With six more alongside it, I can now see how they messed up time and space."
Just then, he felt fatigued. Nate believed his work today to be a success, but the battle took a considerable toll on his body, now causing him to descend as his spine and wings weren't given a chance to properly heal. This injury made Nathan realize how much he had underestimated these Mobians.
*That got pretty rocky, huh? And now, Nate and Joe have yet to meet the full difficulties of this mission!
Do we like the story so far? It's probably not much to judge it off from, but I wanna make sure you're entertained every step of the way!
Until next time!
