Three

My nostrils flared and I slowly turned my head towards the threatening scent. The Dark WereWolf was male, I could see that now, and he had an alpha stance about him. He stood up also, slightly baring his teeth as if telling me to back down.

No way in hell, my mind screamed, at least my werewolf side. I bared my teeth, crouching in an offensive stance. The alpha realized my threat and returned it.

I snarled and pounced in him. The werewolf obviously wasn't expecting this and toppled over under my weight, even though I was a bit smaller then him.

We grappled, rolling and snarling. Rocks dig into my back and I realized that we were in the cave I had wanted to sleep in earlier, until this werewolf had bitten me. With new rage, I bit down on his neck, blood trickling into my mouth.

The other werewolf stilled and let go of me. I heard shuffling behind me but I didn't let go. My claws dug into his stomach and shoulder.

Finally, I let go as he let out a whimper. My hand went up and grasped his neck, making sure he didn't do anything while I stood up. I looked behind me and growled.

Five other werewolves were blocking the exit. One was orange, with yellow eyes and red lines under their eyes. Another was light blue with dark blue ears and paws, and another seemed to be this ones opposite; a dark blue with light blue ears and paws. The bright white werewolf slightly stunned my eyes as they observed me with bright violet eyes, and they had several tails. The other was tiny, with soft golden fur and white swirls on their shoulders.

My mother had only told me about the Dark Werewolf; since they were usually the most powerful and were seen the most. Most of us weren't even sure if they even existed, they were just tales meant to scare children.

So I didn't recognize the any of the others. I slightly crouched, realizing the threat. Five—no, six, against one? Although, I couldn't be sure they were with the Dark Werewolf, but considering he possessed Alpha like quality's, they most likely were.

My claws dug into the alphas neck as he whined, and the small golden wolf returned the whine. I could see now the golden one was female. She dropped onto four legs, crouching to seem like she wasn't a threat. She whined again, slowly taking a few steps forward.

She seemed to be bowing submissively as she seemed to be begging for the Dark Werewolves life. I drew my lips up in a snarl, but let go of his neck, letting his head crack on the rocky ground.

He whined again, lifting his head up and clutching it, almost shaking. I stepped away, sensing something amiss. He seemed to be almost acting, pretending he was in pain for me to let him go. I didn't like this and bared my teeth to show it.

The golden wolf scrambled over to the dark wolf and cradled his head, almost cooing. It seemed, in a strange way, they seemed to be a couple. I had to remind my wolf side that we were still half human.

I slightly surprised myself from this thought. I was already so used to having a wolf side, and I wasn't gaping at what was happening. But the shock seemed to have worn off, and I was quickly adjusting, even though I've only been wolf for around ten minutes.

I glanced at the other werewolves as they twitched. The blue ones were leaning close, their heads together. The orange was baring their teeth, still crouched in a defensive position. The white was calmly swishing their tails, ignoring everyone. I hissed at them.

I crouched, my back to the wall as the dark werewolf stood, his neck mostly stopped bleeding. The golden werewolf did also, although she came no where near his height. The dark wolf stepped forward, his pale red his glimmering. Then, with some reluctance, he kneeled. The golden wolf did also, along with the blue, orange, and white.

I stood up, confused. I tried to speak, but it came out as a retch. The dark werewolf looked up, his face a bit amused. "Alpha...." he muttered. The others copied him.

I tried again to speak, and it worked. "Wh-what?"

The gold wolf looked up and spoke softly. "Young one, you have defeated Fletcher in battle, so this makes you Alpha." Her voice was like bird song, and it was mesmerizing.

I shook my head. "B-but I can't. I-I don't even know—I was—Alpha?" I stuttered, my voice still cracked and unpleasant compared to hers.

The dark werewolf, which I assumed to be Fletcher, stood up. "Let's start of with names. Hello young one, I am Fletcher. I used to be the Alpha of this—small—pack—I assume you know what an Alpha is?"

I nodded.

"We almost have all the types of werewolves in this pack, and that is a pretty rare feat for starting packs. There are eight different types, and we have seven, including you.

"You probably already know what type I am from the stories—A Dark Werwolf. Tasha,"—he gestured to the golden wolf—"is a Light Werewolf. Charlie,"—pointed to the orange werewolf—"is a Fire Werewolf. Nixie,"—gestured to the dark blue wolf—"is a Water Werwolf, and her twin, Milo,"—the light blue wolf—"is an Ice Werwolf. And Savanna—Sam—"—he looked at the white wolf—"is a Spirit Werwolf."

The Werwolves around me started to relax, Nixie and Milo sat down beside each other, and Sam went over to talk to Charlie. Tasha stayed by Fletchers side, and he squeezed her shoulder. "What's your name?"

I took a moment to absorb it all. I looked around at them all before speaking. "I-I'm Jade...." I thought before asking something else. "But—can I ever change back to human? Or am I stuck like this?"

Fletcher shook his head. "We are called werewolves for a reason, you know. I could shift into human form right now, but since you are still adjusting, it's unsafe. Your wolf right now is unpredictable, and it might attack unfamiliar humans. You will see our human forms later."

"O-okay... but why did you change me? Who said I wanted to be a werewolf? Maybe I liked my old life." I fidgeted, shifting from one leg to the next, crossing and uncrossing my arms.

Fletcher chuckled. "You were traveling in the middle of the night, in a deserted area, covered in fear-scent."

I scowled. "I think that last one was partly your fault. How could you even smell fear anyway? I thought that's only something a d—" I cut myself off before I could finish. They—I—were practically dogs, so it would probably sound rude if I said it aloud.

"Along with the werewolf form, you have enhanced senses. Did you notice you could see in the dark, even though it's probably pitch black in here if you were in human form?"

"Yes...I did notice that." I admitted. So far, werewolf life seemed pretty cool. Enhanced senses? It beats going to the next town and trying to start my life over again.

And I didn't feel anything about leaving my mother, since she kicked me out. I didn't know my father and had no siblings, so I was basically alone.

"Along with speed, strength, and intelligence." Fletcher added.

Definitely better.

I looked around at everyone. Sam quietly said something to Charlie, and he glanced over at me, before turning and squeezing through a tight crack in the wall. Sam glanced at me before following him. "What was that about?" I questioned, watching them go. No one answered, ignoring me.

Milo tugged Nixie up, "time to go." He mumbled, tugging her towards the crack also.

Nixie shook her head and pulled away from her brother. "Your the one who needs to go. I can stay."

Tasha put her paws on her hips and glared at Fletcher. "Milo is right. Time to go. Shoo." She reached up and pushed him towards the crack.

I watched silently, confused on what was going on. Were they going to leave me here?

Milo just sighed and went through the crack also. But Feltcher was stubborn and planted his feet and crossed his arms. "Nope. I'm beta, and I can stay."

Tasha wolf-smirked. "Uh-uh. When you were defeated you went down to Omega. I'm still Beta."

This made Fletcher pause, but he quickly recovered. "Only an Alpha can make me leave. Beta's don't have that kind of power."

Tasha scoffed, crossing her arms and glared at him with yellow eyes.

I recognized these ranks from some of the story's which portrayed werewolf's to be more friendly then frightening. I crossed my arms, slightly sassily as I gave a wolffish-smirk. "Only alphas? Then, I commanded you to leave so I can have some peace without you."

Nixie Burst out laughing, "You heard her Fletcher. Get out."

Tasha also laughed and pushed a flustered-looking Fletcher towards the crack. Fletcher finally obeyed and squeezed through. Tasha turned to me.

"I think you've calmed down a bit, so it's time to change back into human form!" She said cheerfully. Nixie walked to the corner where a small bundle of clothes lay. I didn't notice it before, since they blended into the rocks around them. She also grabbed a small rock and a stick. I tilted my head, confused at what those were for.

"Alright, Jade. I'm going to start by asking you to shift back first, so your wolf doesn't try and attack us. The first process was a bit hard, but it gets easier as you get going."

I nodded, sitting down silently. "But—how?"

"Just close your eyes and think of your human form. Try and clear your head—it helps."

I nodded slowly, before crossing my long legs and closing my eyes. I pictured my short form, with bony shoulders and legs, and barely any curves. My skinny legs, and dull brown short hair, and brown eyes.

A crack went through my spine, and pain shot up and pounded in my skull. I cried out, but got cut off as a gurgle went up my throat as my spine shifted, and my shoulders rearranged themselves. My fur slowly started getting sucked in, sending prickles along my body. My ears migrated to the side of my head as my muzzle retreated into my skull with a dull grinding sound. In a matter of minutes and pain, it was done, and I crouched on the cold ground, panting.

I lifted my hand up to rub my head, and hair hung in my face. The cave was suddenly dark without my night vision, although I could see some faint outlines. I realized I was naked and shivered.

"T-Tasha?" I called, brushing the unusually long hair out of my face as I squinted into the darkness. My voice was softer then it was when I was in wolf form, and more delicate.

"I'm shifting. One moment." Her bird-song voice rang out, before a few cracks rang in the silence. Then another loud crack, and it was over.

A sound, like rubbing rocks together,  and light filled the room. I squinted, my eyes adjusting.

Nixie, now also in human form, held the stick, now flame flickering at the end. Her human form was beautiful. She had long silky black hair down to mid-back, and when it moved, it seemed to shimmer. She had light blue eyes and clear, pale skin. She was rather skinny with long legs. She was also naked, and I looked away quickly, slightly blushing. She giggled.

Tasha came into the light of the torch, and I quickly examined her also. She was even tinier in human form then wolf, with blonde hair down to her waist, and big brown eyes. She was also flawless, with more tan skin then Nixie.

I felt self conscious compared to them, and Tasha seemed to sense it. "Nixie?" She asked, and Nixie nodded, handing the torch to her before disappearing into the darkness.

Tasha approached me. "I understand you feel uncomfortable, but I promise it's just us in here."

I slowly nodded, standing up. I was slightly off balance, my centre of gravity different. Tasha examined me. I was roughly the same height as Nixie, a few inches taller then Tasha. She smiled.

"Nixie is getting dressed—we don't want those guys to see anything—and grabbing you a mirror." I must have looked confused, because she explained. "When you shifted, your looks will change according to your type of wolf. If you were a Light Werwolf, like me, your hair might have changed to blonde, your eyes brown or perhaps yellow. So you get to see how you changed!"

I smiled, running my hand through my now longer hair. "Wow...that's cool!"

Just at that moment, Nixie came back into the torch light. She was now dressed in a short blue dress, her hair in a long braid. She was holding a hand-held mirror.

She grinned. "You ready?" She asked.

I nodded, grinning back at her.

She lifted the mirror towards me, and I peered back at my reflection. My hair had grown, now mid-back, and was now a startling amber. My eyes were a bright green, and when I blinked, they shimmered into a different shade. My skin was just as pale, but with a few freckles dotting my nose, and it was otherwise clear.

I looked down at my body in the torch-light. My shoulders were now smooth with muscle, and my biceps were also toned with muscle. My legs seemed longer, toned like a dancer. My hand trailed over my stomach, and I felt the lines of rock hard abs. My body was rippling with strength, like liquid steel.

Nixie grinned and pulled back the mirror. "Time to get dressed!" She handed me a pile of clothes. "Choose what you want to wear—I'm going to go tell the others your coming. Oh, and by the way Jade, I love your wolf form. Very chic." She grinned and once again, she disappeared into the darkness.

Tasha put the torch in a crack in the ground so we could both get dressed at the same time. She pulled on a yellow tank top with a short black skirt.

I wasn't feeling as confident as them, so once I put on undergarments, I pulled on some jeans and a tight-ish t-shirt.

Tasha brushed off her clothes before smiling at me. "You ready to go, get out of this dank cave?"
I nodded.

She snuffled the torch out and put the mirror and clothes in the corner, then led me to the crack. Good thing she did too, because I still couldn't see very well in the dark.

As we squeezed through, my eyes detected light. I shielded my eyes as we emerged in early sunlight.

We were on the cliff of the cave, facing the clearing I was bitten in. There was even a trail of blood going into the cave. Sunlight poured into the clearing, the sun slowly climbing into the sky. A group of people stood by the edge, and it took me a moment to recognize them all.

Nixie was standing by Milo, and he had the same blue eyes with black hair, but he towered over her. Muscles bulged on his forearm, and I could see some abs through the tight black t-shirt. He looked like a wrestler.

Charlie had curly black hair with copper skin, and was grinning at me. He had chocolate brown eyes and was a bit taller then Nixie.

Fletcher has shoulder length black hair, tied up in a man-bun. He was tan, with the same red eyes when he was in wolf form. He was as tall as Milo, and his eyes were excited when he spotted me and Tasha.

Sam was as tall as Nixie, although not quite as skinny, with long brown hair and bright hazel eyes. She observed me with a smile.

As we walked forward, a spotted a scar on the side of Tasha's neck. It looked like a bite mark, and I noticed everyone else had one, but on different spots of their necks or collar bone.

I lightly touched the front of my neck and felt the healing teeth marks on either side of my windpipe. I winced.

Charlie let out a low cat-call when he looked me up and down. "Damn Fletcher, you didn't tell me she was this hot."
