Chapter 10| Chasing Ducks
I woke up, the next morning while Josephine is still asleep cuddling with the pillow. Wow! Did I just wake up before her?
I looked at the clock, and of course I woke up before her... it's 5am already!
I found no sign of sleep in my eyes, so I got up and went downstairs to find Josephine's mother cooking breakfast.
"Good morning miss-um" I looked confused.
"Blake, but you can call me Sally" she gave me a warm smile and continued cooking the pancakes, while I sat on the kitchen table.
"So...Millicent?"
"Mhmm?"
"Josephine, told me that you were from Canada; how is it there?"
I don't have any idea where is that.
"Um-good?" It sounded like question
Sally raised her eyebrows to me, expecting me to continue.
"Y-you know it's r-really hot there..." I stuttered gesturing my hands toward my face like a fan.
"You are funny Millicent..." Sally laughed "Yes, I know how cold Canada is..."
Well, cold it is!
"Yeah, there is um-a lot of ice?" I tried to continue.
"Good morning, ma!" Caleb called as he walked down the staircase.
"Good morning teddy bear!"
"Mom!" Caleb's face turned red as a tomato glaring at his mother.
I tried to hold back my laughter, but failed, which earned me a glare from Caleb.
"What? You will always be my teddy bear!" Sally said seriously trying to hold her laughter too.
"Whatever" Caleb mumbled, looking at his feet, the redness didn't go yet.
Sally put five dishes of pancakes, on the kitchen table, Caleb and I took a seat in front of our plates and started digging after pouring the syrup.
Mr. Blake walked in the kitchen too, already in his black suit for work.
He didn't bother to look at me or his son he just waved to his wife goodbye, and took off with his car.
I finished my pancakes and just stood up, to again, being grabbed out by Caleb clutching my arm, and heading me upstairs.
"Caleb, you could've easily asked me to come!"
He looked at me then to my arm and realized how tightly he was holding my arm
"Oh, sorry." He released me and continued walking upstairs. "I wanted to continue the research of the book, I was pretty excited actually..."
"Oh, let me just grab the book and letters from my room." I headed towards my room.
"What letters?" He asked confused
"Oh...you weren't there when-we found some letters hidden in the book cover." I said grabbing the book and the letters with blood.
"Should I wake up Josephine?"
His eyes widened "NO, believe me, you don't want to be the one to wake her up, last time she was so close to get my eyes out!" He whispered.
I chuckled about how he looked a little frightened
"Whatever you say teddy bear." I said getting out and towards Josephine room, so we could speak freely without waking Josephine.
He glared and I couldn't help but laugh, bending and holding my stomach.
"What? It suits you!" I said defensively
"Nothing with that name could ever suits me." He huffed grumbly.
"TEDDY BEAR!"
"What could anything related to that name can ever suit me!" He mumbled.
"You know you have brown hair and tanned skin, and I am pretty sure your mom gave that name, because I think you give warm bear hugs." I said hugging myself and chuckling.
"I do not look like a teddy bear!" He pouted folding his arms.
"Whatever gets you to sleep at night tedd- ow!" I screamed when throw a pillow on me.
I threw it back to his face.
"Oh, you. Are. On." He said grabbing another pillow and throwing it on me, but I ducked it.
I just stood up, but he managed to throw another one.
I took another pillow and started hitting him with it, then I threw it and ran downstairs as he was after me.
Our laughter fell the house, I took a circle around the house and I looked back and didn't find him.
I slowly moved upstairs again and entered his room.
"Where-"
"Ahhhhh" he screamed taking to pillows and hit me with them. I took another pillow and used it as a defense.
We both got tired, so we threw our pillows and lied on the floor.
"You-run-like-a-duck" he managed to say between his breath.
"Really? Then why couldn't you catch me?"
He lied silent for a couple of seconds, probably thinking of a comeback.
"I...don't catch ducks?"
"Really? That's your best comeback!"
"Whatever" he muttered
"So...what did you and Josephine find?"
"We don't know yet...we just found some letters in the back of the cover, on of them had blood and-"
"One of them had BLOOD!" He repeated with wide eyes.
"Yes, listen carefully, Josephine tried to read them but she didn't understand a thing."
"Why...?" He asked.
"I don't know, she said it's kind of a weird language."
"Oh..."
The door knob turned and we saw Josephine enter the room.
"I was looking for you guys-why are lying on the floor? and why are you shirtless?" She raised her eyebrows and I sat up as did Caleb I looked at him to find him without any shirt, I guess he took it off while we were running.
He was quite build though.
"We were playing a pillow fight." Caleb shrugged.
"Okay..." She said slowly "so are you ready to find out the rest of the mysteries?" She excitedly hopped and clap her hands.
"Yes?" I said more like a question than a statement.
"Yay, I will go have some breakfast and will come back."
--------------------------
We all gathered in Josephine's room again, and Caleb started flipping the page of the book, while I took one of the letters and opened it.
"I told you, the language is weird, you won't be able to read it."
"What are you talking about? It's English!"
"What?" Josephine looked confused
"Look, it's simple English!"
"Millicent we both are looking, nothing about this language is simple."
"Then how do you explain that I can read it?" I narrowed my eyes
"Well, duh, it came from your world."
"You have a point..." I mumbled, beginning to read it.
"So what it's says?" Caleb asked, finally talking after a while.
I read it quickly with my eyes, after making sure that this is the first letter, my eyes widened more and more after every line I read.
That's can't be!
How could I be...
I-I am not feeling well.
I grabbed my stomach and curled myself into a ball on Josephine's bed.
