Chapter Three: Awkward
I stared at my mom in embarrassment. "Mom.....this is Champ, Champ mom." Champ smiled. "Hello Mrs. Sanders. Nice to meet you." He greeted my mom while holding out an arm for a handshake. She shook it.
"Hey Champ, would you like to join us for dinner?" My eyes almost fell out of their sockets. I whipped my head around to face my mom. I faced back Champ. "One minute." Then I closed the door. "Mom! What are you doing?! I just met the guy and now you're inviting him for dinner?!" I screamed at my oh so sweet mother. Note the sarcasm. "Oh come on plum. It'll be nice to know your neighbours right? Plus, he's super cute. Why wouldn't you want him over? You might even get a boyfriend for once." She strait up told me.
"Mom, I love you but you can't put other unnecessary problems into conversations like this." I sighed. "So are you just gonna leave him there or invite him in?" My mom asked crossing her arms. I mentally cursed her in my mind and opened the door. Champ was still here good. "Would you like to join us for dinner?" I asked while closing my eyes. I heard a reply from him. "Sure!"
........................................................................
"So tell me how did you get the name Champ?" My mom asked. We were all seated around the dinner table with Steve giving me a weird grin and Christine seated next to her doll who was seated next to me. Champ was seated to my left and Steve in front with mom beside him.
"Well my dad was a great baseball player at that time and he won many championships. So he decided to name me Champion, Champ is what I like to be called though. My last name is Grey." Champ explained to her.
She nodded in response. I was devouring my steak cutlets like a beast. "How was your first day at school Emily?" My mom asked. "Didn't you already asked that?" I continued to eat. I felt a hard item being thrown at me in the head. "Manners at the table." My mom lectured quit angry.
Her fork that she threw at me was now in my plate. I rubbed the spot that it hit. "That hurt." I stated. "Then maybe you'll have more decency if you remember that fork." After she finished she started tapping her finger on the table and was looking at me awkwardly. Then she cleared her throat.
"Um..could you please pass that back?" I took up the fork and gave it back to her.
She quietly thanked me and started to eat. The room was filled with an awkward silence that could easily suffocate me. Steve was very much enjoying this by the way he was looking at me and smiling. I rolled my eyes at him and proceeded to conjure up my food.
In a matter of minutes I was the first to finish. "Well It's been fun doing this and all, but I think Champ wants to go home now." I looked him in the eye. "Don't you Champ?" He looked at me then the others with uncertainty in his eyes. "Ummm.. I'm not sure-" I walked up to him and held his left ear. "Don't you?!" He shook his head in pain.
I smiled. "Good. Now let's go." I dragged him up, and towards the door. "Oh, can I at least.."
"Bye!" I slammed the door.
I turned to face mom. "Don't. You ever. Do that. Again. Mother." I threatened before going upstairs.
I plopped on my bed and screamed in my pillow.
Then I heard a creaking sound, like that of a door opening slowly. My door. I looked behind me to see who it was and to my surprise I saw no one. "Hello?" I asked. But got no response. I slowly got off the bed and started to creep as quietly as possible to the door.
I looked through, then left and right. "Oh. Guess it was just my imagination."
I turned back around. "Don't you dare!" A woman screamed in my face. Then she slapped me so hard I fell. I scrambled on the floor and looked back in my room only to see her gone. "What the?.."
I stood up and high-tailed it the crap out of there. I ran downstairs and bumped into mom. "Honey? What's wrong?"
I tried to form words but ended up forming a speed sentence. "Momthere'sawomaninmyroomandshe
slappedmeandIfellan-" She stopped me. "Whoa! Speak, slowly."
"There's someone in my room."
She walked passed me and went towards my room. She went in and didn't come out. "Mom?" I called out but she didn't answer.
I slowly walked towards the door. "Mom?" I called again. "Mom this isn't funny you know." I looked in but I didn't saw her. "Mom?!" I went inside and started to search for her. I looked in the closet, behind the door, under my bed, everywhere but still saw no sign of her.
All of a sudden I heard breathing coming from behind me.
It was raspy-like and each breath it took the person or thing stops for a split second. "M-mom?" I asked it. "....No..." It replied back. I bit my lip trying hard not to scream. Don't scream. Don't scream! If you do you might die.
I was so scared and frightened that I started to shake. My heart rate was accelerating fast and I feared that it might just burst through my chest.
A small welp escaped my lips as soon as I felt cold slender fingers on my arm.
You idiot! Don't scream! Wait what am I saying? Move your damn legs and run!
I scanned the room with my eyes trying to find some leverage. My eyes spotted a...pencil. On the floor. Way across my room. Under my dresser. Behind some books.
Ugh! That's not a right choice OH MY GOD THE FINGERS ARE GOING TOWARDS MY BOOBS!!
I sprang to the floor and flung the books to one side with one swift motion and grabbed the pencil. I stood up to face whom ever was there but saw no one. My heart is beating so fast that it feels like it's running a race. I sighed in relief and leaned back on my dresser and looked at the pencil. "Poor choice for a weapon." I dropped it and kicked it away.
Then a thought came to me. "Mom was here. Did that thing took her?!" I ran to the door but stopped abruptly. Why? Because I heard the breathing again. "Forget this crap!" I dashed down the hall and down the stairs but bumped into someone again.
"Hey wa-" I punched Steve in the face.
He held his nose while it bled and staggered backwards. "What the heck Emily?!" He barked with anger. I pointed at him. "That's for...everything!" I stuttered. Why was I doing this again?
Oh yeah! Creepy lady, vanishing mom, raspy breathing, slender gingers almost touching my boobs, using a pencil for defense.
"Mom's gone! She went in my room and just..vanished!" Steve stared at me as if I grew another head. "What are you talking about? Mom's right here." He pointed towards the couch and I saw mom watching the TV while eating nachos. She looked around. "Yow." And turned back.
Wait what? She's here? All along? Then who was- My eyes widened in shock and fear. Then I slowly took a look back up the stairs. "I'm not going back up there." I looked back at Steve. "Not." He chuckled.
"Well if you're not then that means I can have your phone then." He rushed up the stairs and started laughing. "Hey you better not touch my stuff you old troll!!"
I rushed after him, forgetting the events that just occured. He jumped inside my room and that's when I stopped.
He went in...my room... My room.... MY ROOM!!!
I twisted my head to the left them to the right cracking it. Then I cracked my knuckles and went in after him.
The only thing you could hear that night were Steves' screams of pain.
